A Florida college instructor was turfed after a student discovered an Internet browser bookmark tab titled “busty college girl” during an online Zoom class and it went viral.
Professor John Peng Zhang no longer teaches business analytics at the University of Miami after being fired earlier this month for having the sexist bookmark on his web browser during the teleconference class.
According to the university’s student newspaper, The Miami Hurricane , the discovery was made on March 26 when one of Zhang’s students had his microphone on during an online class where the teacher shared his screen. The keen-eyed student then noticed the bookmark tab and shared the news with one of his classmates.
As the professor kept teaching, his students screen-capped and recorded videos of the session. The Hurricane reported the students then posted their handy work on social media, including on TikTok where it went viral.

The eight-second TikTok video showed a zoom-in on Zhang’s browser. It was viewed more than 800,000 times in the first few hours after publication.
The viral video was later shared on other social media platforms.
“It was insane … it blew up,” student Samantha Hill told The Hurricane.
“I had friends sharing it with me from other schools who saw it,” said business student Ethan Hartz.
Zhang reportedly caught wind of the viral video and apologized to his students in the next class.
“I don’t know what happened. I didn’t see it. I’m pretty sure everybody else did … My apologies to the class,” the professor reportedly told his students.
He later sent an e-mail out to students encouraging them not to share the video while he was investigating the matter.
The Hurricane reported Zhang taught one more online class before he was absent for another. Confused students were without the instructor during the Zoom session for about 20 minutes before receiving an e-mail stating the class was cancelled.
Zhang was subsequently fired and his course received two new replacement teachers.
In a statement to The Hurricane, the University of Miami said it “aggressively investigates all complaints of inappropriate behaviour or sexual harassment.”
“After receiving a complaint through the University’s ethics hotline, the incident was investigated by the Office of the Provost, Title IX investigator and Miami Herbert Business School,” the statement concluded.
