Burning Man Festival is one of the world’s biggest and most popular festivals and takes place once a year in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada.
PARTY-GOERS have descended on the deserts of Nevada for Burning Man – one of the world’s biggest and most extreme festivals.
The yearly Burning Man festival sees tens of thousands of people gather for at least a week of mayhem and mutiny on a scale that puts makes Glastonbury look tame.
Revellers from all walks of life — from surreal artists and far-out families to high-flying CEOs and tech titans – head to the sands for a party like no other.
In the past, electric car pioneer Elon Musk, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Google’s Larry Page and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook joined the rebellious souls at Burning Man.
From obscure sculptures and wacky outfits to the ever-popular Orgy Dome – Burning Man seems to get more insane every year.
Last year’s festival hosted over 70,000 “burners” including 3,000 rich enough to fly in to its unregulated Black Rock City Airport.
And in the past there’s been a tent for mass lesbian romps, a human petting zoo and first-timers get hugged by a stark naked welcoming committee.
The event began Sunday and continues through the weekend about 100 miles (161 kilometers) north of Reno.
The Burning Man Festival was first held by Larry Harvey and his group of friends in 1986.
They named the event Burning Man because it began as a bonfire ritual on the summer solstice on Baker Beach in San Francisco.
And for many, it marks the end of summer, the festival is rounded off by living up to its title – with the burning of a giant wooden man-shaped construct.
But anyone wanting to spark up a joint at the party should think twice – even though Nevada has legalised recreational marijuana.
“The broader public including those that go to Burning Man seem to think that at Burning Man, anything goes,” said Rebecca Gasca, CEO of the Reno-based cannabis consulting firm Pistil and Stigma.
Voters in the state passed a marijuana legalisation measure in 2016, and sales began at retail stores on July 1.
But consumption is allowed only in private and even possession remains illegal on federal lands, including the stretch of Black Rock Desert managed by the US Bureau of Land Management where the counter-culture festival is.
“You’re not exempt from the law at Burning Man, and that is doubly true this year,” festival spokeswoman Megan Miller told the Reno Gazette-Journal .
BLM officials say a pot possession arrest can result in a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
But federal agents made no arrests for any crimes last year at Burning Man, or the year before.

In the interest of journalistic integrity, we'll admit that we aren't entirely sure what, exactly, Burning Man entails, but its Wikipedia summary sure makes it sound like a "Mad Max" cosplay operation — a place where rich, nearly naked hippies become one with art and the Earth and each other's nearly naked, dust-covered bodies.
While Burning Man is traditionally a favorite for fashion — in 2014, Poppy Delevingne famously traded her Burberry cape for a burger — this year's gathering attracted quite a few more Victoria's Secret Angels than it does normally. Sara Sampaio, Josephine Skriver, Martha Hunt, Jasmine Tookes, Candice Swanepoel and Alessandra Ambrosio were all there alongside non-Victoria's Secret-ers Diplo, Jordan Barrett and Paris Hilton. And why not? That lingerie isn't going to wear itself in the 100-degree dry heat.

Every year at Burning Man , over 100,000 people make the pilgrimage to a little patch of the dusty Black Rock Desert to build a small self-sustaining town from scratch.
People come together to create a week-long community for artists, circus clowns, misfits, and squares to come together to party like rock stars, make art, and set a bunch of shit on fire.
And then clean it all up to disappear without a trace.
And while partying, building art, and setting shit on fire is terrific, there’s more to it.
For many, Burning Man is a playground that allows for near-infinite connection. And for an extroverted, gregarious flirt like me, it’s heaven on Earth.
And for many people, it’s an opportunity to explore their sexuality and connect in sexy ways with scantily-clad, playful souls, and I don’t blame them.
Almost every first-time participant I know has the goal of having sex at Burning Man. But having sex at Burning Man is a lot like having sex in real life; it’s not so easy to come by if you don’t know the secret handshake.

Join the club. Having sex at Burning Man is like trying to find the holy grail for some folks. And I get it; I’ve been there too. We’ve all been there at some point. And some are still there, looking for that playa miracle.
If you’re reading this, you probably fall into one of three (theme) camps.
People belonging to the first camp, I get you.
What can I say? I love sex; It’s a beautiful way of connecting with someone, and I’m a sucker for building intimacy.
And having sex at Burning Man can be fun, spontaneous, adventurous, and exciting. What’s not to love?
Something about the desert, the heat, the scantily clad humans, the sleep deprivation, and the sensory overload makes having sex at Burning Man even more exciting.
Not to mention, Burning Man is the sexiest place I know, and the playa (what “burners” call the desert surface where the event takes place) has a way of making everyone look extra delicious.
Despite all the benefits and the seemingly-endless amount of people to play with, some people aren’t into having sex at Burning Man.
Having sex at Burning Man is not without its challenges, and some people just aren’t up to the task. No big deal. It’s not for everyone.
Maybe it’s not a priority because you’re in it for the art, dancing all day and night, and riding your bike all over town. Great.
Or perhaps you’re committed to your theme camp (I’m sure it’s an excellent theme camp, by the way), and you’re there to blow people (not like that) away with your circus performances.
Or you’re all about running the Burning Man Ultra Marathon and then recovering from it.
Or maybe you don’t do casual sex, and just because you’re at Burning Man, it doesn’t mean you’re going to start.
Having sex at Burning Man is certainly not for everyone, and if that’s you, no judgment here. You do, you boo-boo.
The rest of you probably fall into the camp of wishing you could be having sex at Burning Man but not sure how to go about it. I get you because that was me.
Maybe you’ve gotten lucky once but haven’t been able to reproduce those results. Perhaps you see people hooking up left and right, and you wonder what those folks are doing that you’re not.
Or maybe no matter what you do or how hard to try, you still walk back to your dusty little tent at the end of a disappointing night.
And since you most likely didn’t have sex at Burning Man in 2020 and 2021 because of a little thing called a global pandemic, you can still learn a few tricks and prepare for 2022.
And guess what? Some of these tips translate very well to the ‘default’ world.
So, let’s get to work then, shall we?
I know of one camp offering a safe and private play space where it’s appropriate for you to experience group sex: The Orgy Dome . There are certainly a few more underground ones, but the orgies are far and few for the most part.
You might want to reconsider if you’re hoping to visit an orgy to get your rocks off. Most organized play spaces require you to show up with a partner and adhere to a strict code of conduct to make sure everyone has a pleasant experience.
And most sex parties/sex workshops at Burning Man often forbid single men to attend. One common strategy is to find a single woman to accompany you, and if you can pull that off without coming off creepy, chapeau my friend .
However, if you’re a man looking for a gay party, the more, the merrier (in most cases).
99% of folks at Burning Man are wearing enough clothing 99% of the time to conceal their genitals fully.
Some notable exceptions are topless bike rides and shirtcocking parties, but for the most part, most people aren’t naked.
