The Bucknell Bison men’s basketball team is gearing up for what promises to be an exciting and transformative 2023-2024 season. With a mix of seasoned veterans and talented newcomers, the team is looking to build on last year’s progress and make a strong push in the Patriot League.

Under the leadership of head coach John Griffin III, who is entering his second year at the helm, the Bison have been hard at work during the offseason. Griffin, a former Bucknell standout and assistant coach, has brought a renewed energy to the program, emphasizing a fast-paced, disciplined style of play that has already begun to pay dividends.

'We’re focused on growth, both individually and as a team,' Griffin said in a recent press conference. 'Our players have put in the work this offseason, and we’re excited to see that translate onto the court this year.'

Key Returning Players

Bucknell’s roster boasts several key returners who are expected to play pivotal roles this season. Senior guard Xander Rice, the team’s leading scorer last year, is back to anchor the offense. Known for his clutch shooting and leadership, Rice will be a cornerstone of the Bison’s backcourt.

Joining him is junior forward Andre Screen, who emerged as a dominant force in the paint last season. Screen’s ability to control the boards and protect the rim has made him one of the most feared big men in the Patriot League.

'We want to compete at the highest level,' said Rice. 'Our goal is to win the Patriot League and make a run in the NCAA Tournament. We know it’s going to take hard work, but we’re ready for the challenge.'

Bucknell’s home games at Sojka Pavilion have long been known for their electric atmosphere, and this season is expected to be no different. With a passionate fan base and a student section known as the 'Bison Brigade,' the team is hoping to capitalize on its home-court advantage.

'Our fans are incredible,' said Screen. 'Playing in front of them gives us an extra boost, and we’re looking forward to putting on a show for them this season.'
