Local Hero Bry Burrows Saves Stranded Hikers in Dramatic Mountain Rescue

Asheville, NC – In a heart-stopping rescue mission yesterday, local outdoorsman and survival expert Bry Burrows led a team to save three hikers stranded on Mount Mitchell during a sudden snowstorm.

The hikers, identified as a family from Charlotte, had ventured onto a lesser-known trail when worsening weather conditions left them disoriented and unable to descend. After nightfall, dropping temperatures and limited supplies turned their situation dire.

Burrows, a seasoned wilderness guide and founder of Burrows Outdoors, was alerted by park rangers when the hikers’ distress signal was picked up near Deep Gap. Despite hazardous winds and near-zero visibility, Burrows and his team navigated the rugged terrain on foot, locating the group just after midnight.

'They were cold but in good spirits when we found them,' Burrows said. 'The key was staying calm and moving carefully—nature doesn’t forgive mistakes in conditions like that.'

The hikers, suffering only minor frostbite, were escorted to safety and treated at a nearby medical center. Park officials praised Burrows’ quick response, calling him a 'local legend' for his repeated acts of bravery in the backcountry.

When asked about the rescue, Burrows shrugged off the praise. 'Just doing what anyone would do,' he said. 'But maybe this’ll remind folks to check the forecast before hitting the trail.'

For now, Bry Burrows is back to leading expeditions—proving once again that heroes don’t always wear capes. Sometimes, they wear hiking boots.
