BREAKING: Browns Shake Up QB Depth Chart Ahead of Season Opener

Cleveland, OH — September 3, 2024 — The Cleveland Browns have made a surprising adjustment to their quarterback depth chart, just days before their Week 1 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. Head coach Kevin Stefanski announced today that veteran Deshaun Watson remains the undisputed starter, but the backup roles have seen a notable shift.

New QB2: Jameis Winston

After signing former Saints and Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston this offseason, the Browns have elevated him to the primary backup role, moving Dorion Thompson-Robinson (DTR) down to QB3. Winston’s experience and strong preseason performances reportedly gave him the edge in the competition.

'Jameis brings a wealth of knowledge and playmaking ability,' Stefanski said. 'His leadership and arm talent give us confidence if we need him in any situation.'

DTR’s Development Continues

Thompson-Robinson, who showed flashes as a rookie, will now focus on further refining his game. The Browns still see potential in the UCLA product but believe Winston’s readiness gives them a better chance to win now.

Trade Rumors Swirl

With Watson locked in as the starter and Winston secured as QB2, some league insiders speculate that Cleveland could explore trade options for DTR if a team suffers a QB injury early in the season. However, the Browns have denied any active discussions.
