Former adult film star Bree Olson has a message for young girls: Don’t get into porn.
Olson was one of Charlie Sheen’s live-in “goddesses” who shared his home with other women during his 2011 meltdown.
Olson estimates she was making $30,000 to $60,000 a month in the adult film industry before she gave up her career and parted ways with Sheen.
Since then, she’s been trying to transition into mainstream life, but it hasn’t been easy. Olson shared her struggles in a video for the digital interview series, “ Real Women, Real Stories .”
She said she has trouble finding work and making friends. No one wants anything to do with her after they find out about her former life. Without giving details, she said people who recognize her in public call her ugly, demeaning names.
“When I go out, I feel as if I’m wearing ‘slut’ across my forehead,” she said in the video interview, which was posted online last week and is making the rounds in feminist circles on social media.
“I have really gotten to the point where there are days to weeks at time where I don’t leave the house because I don’t feel like facing the world,” she said. “People treat me as if I am a pedophile. They don’t treat me like an ex-sex worker. They treat me like I would somehow be damaging to children.”
Olson, 29, moved recently from Los Angeles to Fort Wayne, Indiana. In an email interview with CNN she said she left the porn industry in 2011 and tried to launch several businesses that failed. She now works reluctantly as a cam model, a term for men and women who perform sex acts on live webcams for Internet customers. She has a girlfriend, and Bree Olson is not her real name.
Olson said she agreed to do the video interview — recorded last year at her home in L.A. — to offer an honest take on the porn industry and its effects on female stars of adult films.
The curator of “Real Women, Real Stories,” Matan Uziel, told CNN he launched the series to empower women by highlighting their struggles, challenging stereotypes and raising money for causes that support girls’ and women’s education.
“Today, unfortunately women are seriously under-represented across nearly all sectors of society around the globe. I believe that with that proper exposure, we can minimize the destruction and even reverse some negative trends against women,” he told CNN in an email. “In our next episodes, we want to keep spotlighting provocative stories about women that you don’t get to access through magazines and reality television.”
When Olson is asked in the video how she would like to be treated, the question appears to catch her off guard. She brings her hands to her mouth, falling silent as tears fill her eyes.
“I wish people would treat me like they would treat a married registered nurse with 2.5 kids in Indiana. That’s how I wish people would treat me,” she said, wiping away tears.
“I would be so happy,” she continues. “I never even thought of that before. But it will never happen. That’s probably why I don’t think about it.”
Olson told CNN the backlash she’s faced over her work in porn has killed her dreams of having children.
“I’ll never put a child through this,” she said. “Even with the best private education and great parenting, the parents will talk and the children will hear and my child would be ostracized.”
She also fears that her past will derail her goal of having a traditional career.
“I’d love to go back to college and work for some amazing company, be it health care, children, some other type of firm, and I’d work my way right to the top — but I am hit with harsh realities constantly,” she told CNN.
“People say, change your hair color, move to another state. Ha! People know me by voice alone. I can’t run. I can’t hide. I have to face this. Anonymity is something I’ll never know. Even with all the surgeries, relocating, years of school, all it takes is one person to blow everything,” she said.
“The only way to have power at this point is to own it. Yeah, I did porn, and thanks to this society that’s all I can say I’ve done.”
In the video, Olson says there’s nothing inherently wrong with porn or with women embracing their sexuality. Even so, she cautions young women against entering the adult film industry because of how society will treat them.
“I send a very strong message to young girls: Don’t do porn,” she said. “You’re just going to have a life of crap in front of you in dealing with people, companies,” she said, describing how employers can turn you down based on past experience or “morality clauses.”
“These are things that teenage girls don’t think (about),” she said. “There’s nothing wrong with porn, but how people treat you for the rest of your life, it’s not worth it.”

Some One Tree Hill fans couldn't get over Brooke Davis's mean girl past, while others believed the town was limiting to her character's future.
One Tree Hill 's Brooke Davis grew up in front of audience members' eyes over the course of nine seasons. Sophia Bush's character went from being a self-absorbed head cheerleader to a successful business owner, wife to an adoring husband, and a mother to twin boys. Her character arc is regarded as one of the best in the teen drama.
However, not all fans loved Brooke's transformation or her character in general. Some Reddit users couldn't get over her mean girl past, while others believed the town of Tree Hill was limiting to her character and that she ultimately deserved a lot better cards than those she was dealt.
Most fans seem to adore Brooke Davis because of her arc from high school mean girl to the kind of friend who would drop everything to protect the ones she loved. However, not everyone was convinced that her character development was all that great, and some found her insufferable for a good portion of the show.
One Redditor wrote, "Brooke Davis in seasons 1-4 is one of the most irritating characters I’ve ever watched...I think the reason people love her so much is because of Sophia Bush (which is understandable because Sophia seems lovely) but her character is not that great for literally half the series."
When fans look back at the great friendships of One Tree Hill , they typically name Peyton and Brooke, Haley and Lucas, and Brooke and Mouth. One friendship that gets less attention and praise is that of Haley and Brooke, whose bond grew particularly strong following actor Peyton Sawyer's exit in Season 6.
On a Reddit thread that compared friendships among the characters, one user complimented the Haley/Brooke pairing, "They developed a loving, supportive relationship over years that was beautiful to see and actually felt like best friendship to me."
Even though Brooke becomes most characters' confidante and closest friend in the later seasons, she is highly regarded as being a "mean girl" for the high school years. While some fans are quick to defend her imperfections due to the fact that she was still young, others think that shouldn't excuse her behavior.
Redditor LawyerBae3 talked of Brooke trying to get back together with Lucas for nefarious reasons. They wrote, "Am I the only person who doesn’t really like her at this point? I normally love her but it seems like she’s literally on doing this to get back at Peyton it doesn’t seem like she genuinely cares for Lucas."
In Season 7, Brooke and her boyfriend Julian were at odds over his close relationship with Alex Dupre, an actress/model working in Tree Hill. Brooke felt that Alex was trying to come between her and Julian, while Julian insisted he was acting merely as a friend. Most friends are Team Brooke in this storyline, but some think that she reacted too harshly to an innocent friendship.
Reddit user cd10347 took Julian's side in their infamous argument. They pointed out that it seemed like Brooke was self-sabotaging herself and her love life yet again, "It’s like she’s always looking for reasons for her love life to fail and as soon as she gets one she’s ready to end it it’s extremely maddening."
Brooke Davis is a fan favorite among most audience members. She went from being introduced in the second episode to being the main character in season 7 until the show ended in season 9. While most love Brooke and her character development, some found her presence fine at best, and over-praised at worst.
Reddit user gunshyew compared Brooke's importance to that of Lucas and Peyton's, saying that she wasn't nearly as impactful as the legendary couple, "Brooke is a great character in the show, but she is like the fifth most important character to the general plot.
Lucas and Peyton were the first relationship explored on One Tree Hill , only to be foiled by Brooke's continuous pursual of the older Scott brother. Their relationship wasn't built to last, mostly because Lucas was always more in love with Peyton than he would ever be with her best friend.
One Redditor revealed that they actually preferred the Brooke and Lucas relationship over Lucas and Peyton, "I love Brooke and Lucas together. I feel that they had incredible chemistry, I liked their dynamic, and I wanted them to be Endgame."
Brooke Davis started designing her own clothes in high school and had Mouth set up a website for her to begin her business. A lot of fans take issue with One Tree Hill 's unrealistic storylines , like Lucas publishing a novel in his early twenties and Haley's overnight music stardom, but seldom mention Brooke's rise to fame.
While a case could be made for all of the main characters having unrealistic careers, user mCahill389 noted that Brooke's timeline may make the least amount of sense following the time jump. They wrote, "how did she go to college, and have such a successful multi-million dollar business and that famous so quickly? The 4.5 year time jump felt more like a 10-year jump for Brooke."
In the first season, these two are portrayed as being best friends with some obvious tension. This is only made worse once Brooke and Peyton both develop feelings for Lucas . Most fans agree that Brooke wasn't always the best friend when it came to the love triangle, but an unpopular opinion seems to be that Brooke was actually a bad friend to Peyton most of the time.
Redditor forever-mortal wrote about their issue with Brooke's treatment of her best friend when was at her lowest, including when Peyton's biological mother passed away and she was being stalked, "Boy stuff aside, I'm not sure I could have forgiven Brooke for some of the nasty things she said to Peyton."
Most fans agree that Brooke and Lucas were not meant to be and that the title of soulmates went to Lucas and Peyton. The reason for not wanting Lucas and Brooke to be together is usually that he belongs with Brooke's best friend, but rarely is it said that Lucas never deserved Brooke in the first place.
Redditor Producermaddy commented on a thread that said Brooke deserved better than Lucas writing, "Brooke was way too good for Lucas. He never truly loved her like he did Peyton. I’m glad she ended up with Julian who worshiped her."
The award for the fan-favorite couple on One Tree Hill usually goes to Nathan and Haley or Lucas and Peyton, with Brooke Davis and her husband Julian Baker usually being ranked in the middle of the pack.
A Reddit thread that asked fans who their favorite couple was had a lot of similar answers, including predictable ones like Naley and Leyton. However, a couple of fans praised the Brooke and Julian pairing as being the best on the show. User jaidacarlye wrote, "I loved Brooke and Lucas but he wasn't right for her. Meanwhile Julian is sooo perfect for Brooke, they are my otp."
