Brooke and Michelle have been doing it tough on House Rules but it’s nothing compared to their disaster of a wedding.
Their special day was in chaos from the first minute when torrential rain hit the Adelaide beach they were supposed to use for their ‘relaxed and casual’ ceremony.
‘Our eldest daughter Addison had never experienced rain on her face before so she was bawling,' Brooke told New Idea .
Wedding washout: Brooke and Michelle have been doing it tough on House Rules, but it’s nothing compared to their disaster of a wedding
'Then she pooped her pants and I didn’t have a nappy and the rain was going sideways,’ he said.
The 43-year-olds don’t even have any professional quality shots to remember their union with as the photographer didn’t show up.
Things went from bad to worse at the reception when the acoustic guitarist forgot the words to their song.

‘We had to sing along. I was tired and stressed – it was terrible,’ Michelle said. ‘It stresses me out just thinking about it.’
It was a lot of bad luck for one day, especially as Brooke swore it had not rained in Adelaide for about three years beforehand, so the couple were keen for a do-over.
‘All our friends and family said that we definitely should, we’ve just not gotten around to it… I’d love to get dressed up again and have proper photos taken,’ Michelle said.
Their washout of a wedding was not the only dramatic family moment the pair have endured, as your youngest daughter Tildie, five, only made it to the hospital 20 minutes before birth.

Michelle said Addison had been born backwards so the contractions were so painful she didn’t realise she was in labour during normal ones.
Compared to these tough experiences, competing on House Rules should have been a cakewalk but in a testament to its gruelling nature they said it was the hardest thing they had done.
They are doing well so how on the scoreboard, however, as they lead the competition after scoring 17 out of 20 for the 24-hour fix-up.

The pair chose to makeover their living room, hallway and laundry, with judge Wendy Moore saying to them: 'This was your style at its absolute best.'
'You definitely chose the right zone, you used your time and money really well,'
House Rules continues 7.30pm Monday and Tuesday night.
They did it: Brooke (L) and Michelle came out on top of the competition last Tuesday night, scoring the highest for their 24-hour fix-up

House Rules 2016: Inside Brooke and Michelle’s Week 2 Reveal

house rules , johanna griggs , the block

Last week on the blog I celebrated the return of House Rules 2016 and praised the first winning room reveals from current champs Luke and Cody.
This week, I’m not as enthused. Cue the furrowed brow!
Luke and Cody’s kitchen makeover was the star of the show in this week’s Adelaide whole house reveal. Home owners Brooke and Michelle were left gobsmacked by the makeover.
“Walking into the kitchen, I was totally amazed,” Brooke said. “It was the centrepiece of our house.”
Judges Joe Snell and Wendy Moore were equally impressed, giving Luke and Cody the highest combined score of the week.
“What you have done for this whole living space is a true entertainer’s dream,” Wendy said, and when the final scores were revealed, Luke and Cody kept their spot on the top of the leaderboard.
Looking at the kitchen from a design perspective, there are a few issues that concern me. The major one in this space is the choice of splashback tiles.
Reflective hexagonal tiles feel far more at home on a feature wall in a bathroom, not in a kitchen that looked to be going for a modern, subdued and somewhat Scandi-inspired aesthetic.
The gorgeous warm wood tones in the cabinetry are completely lost in this room because your eye is drawn to the disco moment that is inherent in that ill-placed splashback. It makes for quite a jarring contrast visually and brings down the entire look of the room.
I also thought that the choice of white cabinetry above the stove was unnecessary and was again a bit jarring to look at. I also have to say that the styling was a big naff.
House Rules is a show that needs to be all about finishing touches because people are living in the home. The Block can afford to take a less-is-more approach, because the properties are being staged for sale.
The entryway that Luke and Cody put together was also disappointing. That beautiful chair, plonked inside the door on its own with nothing to give it context looked very out of place. For the style of house, it seemed far too modern and architectural.
The other side of the entryway took inspiration from another era and design style entirely, so that just made matters worse in terms of cohesion. The sideboard/buffet is a beautiful piece, but it was poorly styled and felt out of place.
If Luke and Cody were going for an eclectic look, they didn’t quite mesh things together successfully. If you look at these images , you’ll see how to rock an eclectic look at home, but it definitely didn’t happen in the entryway.
Nonetheless, the boys came out on top, with WA’s Rob and Rose in bottom place. This week, the teams take on Nancy and Daniel’s 1960s home.
How are you feeling about the House Rules 2016 week 2 reveal? Did Luke and Cody deserve to win? Drop a comment below and let me know!

Hey Chelsea 🙂 As an interior decorator, I feel for people who are working with a brief that’s hard to interpret, especially if they don’t have the skills to read between the lines or consult with the owners. It results in rooms that don’t quite hit the mark, and it’s often because a rule is not explained properly, or the rule means completely different things to two people. This week was a dire scenario in many respects though – and bad finishes are inexcusable!
I would have been so disappointed if that was my house. I know this weeks’ “House Rules” were a little harder to interpret but still. And so many of their decisions are permanent too – like those hideous tiles in the bathroom (I wasn’t a fan of either bathroom’s turquoise delight even if the homeowners were). And the finishes were so dreadful.

The pressure was certainly on during Sunday night's episode of House Rules.
In the second round of garden makeovers, South Australian couple Brooke and Michelle were sent home after finishing with the lowest combined judges' score of 13.
The couple were responsible for renovating Luke and Cody's backyard in Melbourne, but it looks like their efforts didn't quite measure up to the performance of the other teams.
'It's the toughest thing we've done': South Australian couple Brooke and Michelle were sent home after finishing with the lowest combined judges' score of 13 on Sunday night's episode of House Rules
Judge Wendy Moore told the couple she understood the couple had great potential, but perhaps poor time management led to the final result not being as spectacular as expected.
'I could see you two had some grand plans for this area and some of it you actually pulled off,' she said after taking a look at their designated area.
'You had a really big area and I have to say I could feel the stress from the moment that I walked into the backyard. That muddy entrance was not a good start.'
Not enough: Judge Wendy Moore told the couple she understood the couple had great potential, but perhaps poor time management led to the final result not being as spectacular as expected
Time to leave: Grateful for his time on the Channel Seven show, Brooke said, 'We appreciate all of the things everyone has done for us, it's been amazing'
The couple were given the brief to renovate the area with a Hamptons-inspired theme in mind, and judge Joe Snell provided his feedback accordingly.
'The Hamptons always has a feeling of generosity but your space just looked cramped,' he said.
However, Joe added 'there was one saving grace' which was the sunken lounge feature and fire pit.
'Once you got in there and sat down on that lounge, it was fantastic. Really well done,' he informed the contestants.
Wendy added: 'I like that you went for such a formal, structured entertainment area because that's what the Hamptons is all about.'
Big project: The couple were given the brief to renovate the area with a Hamptons-inspired theme in mind
Not impressed: 'The Hamptons always has a feeling of generosity but your space just looked cramped,' he said, while Wendy added, 'The thing that didn't work was the positioning of the barbeque'
Upset: 'It's a bit unlucky I suppose,' Brooke said, reflecting on the fact that the pair previously only attracted a score of 13 from the judges
'The thing that didn't work was the positioning of the barbeque,' she then said. 'I would've tried to put it at the back of the dining area where there was some dead space.'
Also revealing he wasn't the biggest fan of the pair's kids' deck they revamped, he gave the couple a score of six out of ten.
Adding that to Wendy's score of seven gave the couple a combined judges' score of just 13 out of 20.
Upon hearing the results, Brooke and Michelle were unsurprisingly disappointed.
'It's a bit unlucky I suppose,' Brooke said, reflecting on the fact that the pair previously only attracted a score of 13 from the judges.
Grateful for his time on the Channel Seven show, he then continued: 'We appreciate all of the things everyone has done for us, it's been amazing.'
'It's definitely been the toughest thing we've done together. We've just had the best time,' Michelle added. 'This competition has definitely made us stronger.'
Another hit: Scoring the highest on the night was Luke and Cody - with a mark of 16 out of 20 for their remarkable efforts
Suburban treat: The twin brothers from Queensland renovated Fil and Joe's garden
Big fan: 'The white picket fence you built for Phil and Jo, and the pergola you added to the front of the home, instantly brought street appeal,' Wendy said

Meanwhile, Joe told the boys: 'Your sandstone steps set up a wonderful welcome to this garden'.
Following behind them were Fil and Joe on 14 points.
The couple revamped Luke and Cody's backyard, and the judges had a combination of positive and negative feedback to deliver.
'Your flash pub was a good effort however there were some things you really needed to think through,' Joe said.
'For example, there was a lot of room behind the bar but then there was hardly any room between the bar and the chairs so you had to squeeze through.'
Not bad: Following behind them were Fil and Joe on 14 points
Big space: The couple revamped Luke and Cody's backyard, and the judges had a combination of positive and negative feedback to deliver
Decent effort: Wendy commented on the greenery in place, saying, 'Your plantings in general were well chosen, although I think the back garden could have done with some denser plantings along that fence'
Wendy commented on the greenery in place, saying: 'Your plantings in general were well chosen, although I think the back garden could have done with some denser plantings along that fence.'
She added: 'I think you definitely had the bones for a great garden and you did have some really creative ideas, but it was missing the styling and the softness that you two have done so well at in the past'.
The final team who scored 13 out of 20 were Claire and Hagan.
