Are American guys different from the British?
This is what happens when you eat a spoon of oil every day.
Doctor reveals olive oil that can improve your health in ways that few other oils can.
Yes. I prefer the British. Also, I cannot relate to the posts that talk of American men owning guns or being religious. Usually they can be philosophical but not religious at all. This is my section of the country though and this is NOT the south.
I found American men to be too boastful and conceited, bragging about money and possessions. And always working to earn more money so they can buy more possessions.
Finally I married a British man and he is not the stereotypical British man. He is not quiet and modest. He talks a lot and tends to brag about some of the feats that he has accomplished. B

Finally I married a British man and he is not the stereotypical British man. He is not quiet and modest. He talks a lot and tends to brag about some of the feats that he has accomplished. But it’s a relief that if he talks about cars he used to have, it’s just because he loves cars. It’s not to show off.
Here, where I live, we do not speak of money and we do not brag. I was finding men who were show offs—no wonder no woman wanted them. The British husband I have is a loyal homebody. He likes all the same foods I do although we do run around in pursuit of British foods like Whetabix (sp) and certain jellies and special Worcestershire sauce and salad cream. But he’s not one of these dumb Americans who eats fast food and gets fat. He likes the outdoors and would enjoy a garden. I didn’t find very many American men who gardened or appreciated nature. It was mostly materialism for them.
The British husband can cook! And he makes mince tarts and he makes a good curry. He appreciates a good roast and he loves Yorkshire pudding with it. Just like me!
He’ll watch the same shows on tv that I would watch—things about history and archaeology and travel. Many of the American men are hooked on boring American football but the British man doesn’t care for it. He doesn’t watch much sport on tv. He does expect a sparkly clean and tidy home and I know I don’t live up to those expectations, but I appreciate that he loves his home.
I think the main difference is the trait of caring about people more than things. The American men kept wanting to buy more and more. This British man can be content with his home, his wife, his dog (maybe the dog comes first, lol) and a nice walk on a nature path. He’s not a show off macho type guy, the type that seems to typify many American men. My apologies to American men, not all of you are that bad, but the ones I met and the previous one I was married to conformed to that stereotype. I’ve known a few really kind and nice American men but too many have their priorities wrong. Too many want to show off with fast cars and big houses. I found the British men, on the whole, to be less materialistic and more traditionally humble and down to earth. And British men fit in very well here in the northeast. Seem to be quite a few of them here.

This is not a question where a blanket answer is possible. Culturally, there are bound to be some differences, but the level of difference is going to differ widely from person to person - in the case of both American guys, and British guys.
From my experience (60+ years in the UK, 14 in the USA, now married to an American guy) the main difference I detect is that British guys tend more towards self deprecation, especially in their humour, while Americans - or some of them, tend towards being more self-obsessed and proud, especially of their country. The British love their country, but they do

The British love their country, but they do not shirk from criticism, satire or sarcasm about it when deserved , they certainly do not consider it “exceptional”!
Much depends, also, on which areas of the USA, or the UK are under scrutiny when considering differences in men. Rural? Urban? North? South? East? West? The USA is vast and varied, the UK is small but also extremely varied, possibly even more varied in attitudes than the USA. It’s not possible to lump together ‘American men’ or ‘British men’ and expect to come up with any overall sensible comparison.
Comparing one to one works best. I can compare my American husband to a British male of comparable background and find only minor differences - but that could be partly because my husband’s DNA is even a little bit more British than my own - amazingly! His family has been in the USA for at least a couple of centuries. So that’s another consideration - ethnic background. An American guy of Italian family background, or German family background for instance would be likely to have personality variances, over and above the blanket American/British comparison.
This is yet another unfortunate example of an effort to stereotype, and to lump together in designated boxes, huge groups of incredibly varied people and personalities.
A month ago I flew into LA and whilst waiting for the toilet I overheard two Americans talking. One guy was boasting to the other about how he went to a strip club in Latvia and spent $4000 dollars on a sex show.
First off I thought, how on Earth do you manage to spend $4000 on a sex show, yet alone one in Latvia.
Then I wondered why I have never heard British men boasting about their trips to strip clubs etc.
Whilst around the west coast I saw more strip clubs in two weeks than I have in Britain in 28 years (and I've lived all over England). And probably more than I saw in Tokyo in a year (mostl

Whilst around the west coast I saw more strip clubs in two weeks than I have in Britain in 28 years (and I've lived all over England). And probably more than I saw in Tokyo in a year (mostly around Shinjuku, though my favourite named one was in Roppongi, “ten sluts").
It's just not a thing in the UK. Sure there are some strip clubs but they are generally few and far between, though there are some clusters like Soho (London) and the Pubic Triangle (Edinburgh). They tend to entertain the occasional Stag do (as do foreign clubs) and some other particularly lonely men but that's generally it.
I just can't comprehend why anyone would want to sit and watch semi naked women dance around, yet alone pay them for it. I'm sure many British males feel the same way.
We also don't have any national scale Breasturant chains, though we do have a few one off places (like a Hooters in Nottingham). We just aren't as big on the whole treating women as sex objects thing. British women are also not really into it either.
I don’t think we’re necessarily different - I think there’s a time lag in rude behavior in the UK. Hopefully that makes sense. I grew up in the Midwest in the 60’s and 70’s. I think manners in the UK, for the most part, are very similar to that timeframe (with a few exceptions).
On occasional trips back to the US (I live in Lancashire), I’m frequently taken aback by comments that are made by complete strangers. I have to know someone pretty well to discuss politics, let alone religion, wherever I am. On an Uber ride from the airport, my US driver was not at all bashful about discussing politics

That very rarely occurs in the UK (or just nips around the edges over time and familiarity).
All in all, I just think the UK is a more polite and considerate place to live.

YES… Because American Guys are Arrogant Narcissistic Loud Mouthed and self delusional idiots, they assume that everybody they meet in foreign lands are going to fall at their feet and worship them, just because they are citizens of the highly pretentious U.S.A. ( U.. uncultured S.. stupid A.. assholes ). Whereas Guys from Great Britain are superiorly more well mannered. disciplined, educated, sophisticated .
Both countries have a very wide range of people no matter what metric you judge by.
The most you could do is comment on trends.
US guys on average are more likely to identify as religious for example, or UK guys on average are more educated, or US guys are more likely to own a gun but none of that will really tell you anything about individuals. It’s all too abstract.
So a British guy I know (friend not lover) went on a stag do to S Africa… he was the only British guy there and a trip to a brothel was arranged. He selected his “hooker” paid her fee and asked for a chat cos he was in a relationship- she was totally unsurprised upon hearing his accent… not saying brits are gents and US guys are brutes (never met one) but she said as soon as she heard his accent- knew it’d be a chat…

It’s true that each British and American guy is different, and we can’t differentiate them based on stereotypes. But there are some difference between British and American guys which most of the time apply to the general public. It may help you to determine which man, British or American, suits you better!
While there is difference between dating in Europe and America, the following are several difference between British and American guys:
British guys are generally more well-groomed then their fellow Americans. They’re especially self-conscious when it comes to dressing up and can be found in nice attire more often than not. American guys are more casual and care more for comfort than appearance. They like their t-shirts, jeans and sneakers for everyday occasions. You’ll only find them in suit and tie during professional events.
This one may not apply to every guy, but even back in the days universities in the UK had been free or low cost. So in general, British men may appear more educated than Americans. But be wary that a guy who looks smart may not always be better than one who brings himself less elegantly.
In general, American guys are much better at communicating. It’s a common known fact that British guys are difficult to crack open and it’s true. It’s fairly harder for British guys to open up to other people than it is for American guys.
We all know Britain is a land rich with culture, and it seems that this culture-laden cultivation oozes into its men’s lifestyles. They’re more likely to go out to museums and historical sites than their American brothers, who much prefer to spend time in shopping malls and cinemas.
British guys are apt speakers who have a way to bend words to their wills. They know just what to say to make a woman swoon –to make them feel beautiful and loved. Meanwhile, American guys are more reserved, though still sweet. They’re less likely to shower a woman with compliments and poetic words, but are often genuine when they like something.
Let’s just say that British guys love their cigarettes, while American guys prefer their wine. You’ll find lots of guys in Britain smoking in the open and public spaces, but few actually enjoy drinking alcohol for the fun of it. On the other hand, American guys down their glasses quickly, though they’re not so interested in smoking.
American guys are more affectionate and are not afraid to showcase their love for you. They hold your hand in public, embrace you in photos, kiss your cheek as a see-you-later. They love to say I love you, and enjoy expressing their feelings. British guys, on the other hand, are less keen on PDA and shows their love in a different manner.
British guys tend to be more laidback and enjoy night-outs in a pub or coffee shop. They like hanging in their living rooms over Netflix and popcorn with their girlfriends, and it’s usually the case that their first dates aren’t a candlelight dinner. In contrary, American guys may seem a bit more formal in their form of dates and night-outs. They enjoy a nice dinner for two in fancy formal wear.
For British guys, the eyes speak the language of love and interest. They gaze at a woman until she feels it and won’t look away before she notices their attention. However, American guys usually wait for the woman to stare into them before meeting back her gaze. They’re more comfortable with gestures and words than eye contact. It's also useful to master these tips to make a man crazy about you!
While American guys are eager to be intimate with the women they like, British guys would rather take their time. They cherish organic relationship and for intimacy to come as they spend more time together with the woman, treating her with discretion and savoring every moment spent.
American men are generally more likely to label themselves as masculine. They also have the knack to feel the need to prove their manliness. In comparison, British men are not as keen to prove themselves; sometimes they know that genuine actions show more than empty ones ever can.
This is probably true because British children are usually raised to mingle with the opposite sex. As a result, the guys are used to being around women, so have a greater understanding and empathy for them. Meanwhile, American boys tend to stick with boys while the girls do the same. Older guys are abruptly exposed to the opposite sex and thus have less understanding and empathy for them.
As society develops today, this one might not always be true. However, British media often cover varied images of women –curvy and thin, sensual women who are comfortable in their own skin. While media in America usually focuses on skinny models and skew the perception of beauty for American guys.
British guys have a quiet confidence, as opposed to American guys who usually expresses this sense of confidence out loud.
There are a lot of unwritten rules in the American dating culture, like playing it cool to avoid looking desperate, acting unavailable and waiting minutes before responding to a text. These might also be signs he is not ready for a real relationship. British guys, on the other hand, are more open to honest talks about commitment and serious relationship. They are not afraid to put their hearts on their sleeves, especially if you know how to make him fall in love with you!
So, after reading about all the difference between British and American guys, have you felt that a certain nationality of man matches your personality better? Keep in mind though, that stereotypes are not always true.
There will always be chivalrous British guys and rude ones, as well as gentlemanly American guys and the disrespectful ones. It’s important not to judge a guy based on this list alone. Make the time to get to know him first!
