British Council and Avloni research institute encourage you to upgrade your professional development through the British Council Online Teacher Community

The British Council Online Teacher Community (OTC) offers a new and innovative approach to supporting your continuing professional development. When you sign up to a programme on the OTC you will be able to engage in meaningful professional development over a longer period of time, supported by online communities of practice. You will be encouraged to engage in new ideas, techniques and strategies, and then with the support of other teachers you will be able to identify what might work best in your classroom with your learners, action plan and then later reflect on how it went, learning from each other’s experiences. Interaction on the OTC is through webinars, discussion forums (where you can read and contribute ideas at a time suitable for you), and also through live Zoom sessions. You will need to commit to approximately 3 hours of study a week.

The Online Teacher Community in Uzbekistan is offering two new programmes to teachers this academic year. The first programme, Pathways to Excellence, focuses on your methodology, your classroom practice, assessment and the way you teach English and is 10 weeks long. The Pathways to Excellence programme is 10 weeks long and covers five key topics relevant to teaching and learning English in Uzbekistan. For each of these five modules you will study a British Council self-access Teaching for Success module, attend live webinars provided by international experts which will localise and further develop the topic, and then with the support of your local online community take part in discussion forums related to the topic as well as a live Zoom session to share and discuss the ideas and application to your teaching context. This approach ensures you have the time and support to apply new ideas to your teaching and to be able to reflect together on their effectiveness, sharing challenges and solutions. In addition to that you will have an excellent chance to take additional Assessment Literacy module which includes 7 webinars run by UK assessment experts. All interactions will be through English and we require a minimum B1 level to make the most of this approach.

The second, English for Teaching, focuses on the English language that you use in the classroom and helps you to be a more confident and fluent user of English in your teaching. This programme is longer and will run over 20 weeks.

The English for Teaching programme supports and develops the English language you use in the classroom. Through this programme you will use English in your classroom more effectively and will develop your confidence as well as the fluency and accuracy of your classroom language. The English for Teaching 1 programme we are running this year is for teachers whose proficiency is *less* than B1. It should also be noted that this is not a general English language course, and we would not expect your proficiency on the CEFR scale to change by the end of the programme. What we would expect to change is the way you are able to use English in the classroom and the model of English you are able to provide to your learners.

We would encourage you to apply for the programme which would develop your English teaching skills. We remind you that the deadline for the applications is 16 October 2022.
