East Nashville defensive end Lamonte Shute (55) celebrates with Jordan Houston (35) after Shute stopped Smith County in the end zone for a safety during an high school football game on Friday, October 29, 2021, in Nashville, Tenn.

To East Nashville football coach Jamaal Stewart, La'Monte Shute will be remembered as someone that could brighten up anyone's day.
Stewart said that Shute was the heart and soul of the Eagles defensive line. Coaching him for two years, he watched as Shute developed into a standout player on the field and one of his favorite kids off of it.
Shute was leaving a friend's house and was just a few miles from his home when his 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe drove off the road and rolled over a drainage culvert. He was not wearing a seatbelt according to a Metro Nashville Police statement.
"This is really bigger than football," Stewart said. "He was a big part of us excelling on the field but also was a huge part of everyone's life around school. He had his football best friends but also treated his three sisters like his best friends.
"I hate it for their family right now. This is tough."
Stewart said that a lot of success East Nashville had the last two seasons was because of Shute. In games he played in, outside of Alcoa in the Class 3A championship , the Eagles won. If he was out with an injury, they struggled or they lost.
More important than that, Stewart remembers good times like when Shute would intentionally not knock on his door before entering just to get the coaches to say something to him.
"We have a rule that you have to knock on the door before you come in and he knew that, but he'd just walk in anyway," Stewart said. "He was always joking and messing around with his teammates. He'd always brighten up your day."
East Nashville principal Jamie Jenkins allowed for all of East Nashville's football players to come to the gym where Stewart said he talked with them and just wanted them all to be together.
Counselors from around Metro Nashville came to provide relief and support to those players and friends of Shute's who need it.
"I've been coaching for 13 years, but this group is the closest I've ever been a part of," Stewart said. "This really is a brotherhood and that's the hardest part. My senior class is devastated.
"They're walking around the school crying and are just lost. It's all just really hard right now."
Senior linebacker Jerry Campbell said that he and Shute formed a close bond over the last couple of years and that he was a different type of guy on the field.
Campbell said that Shute was a natural-born athlete who pushed him and everyone else around him better.
Off of the field, Campbell said that Shute had the same mentality but was just a lot of fun to be around and could keep anyone laughing all day long.
"He was just a solid guy who you kick it with and depend on," Campbell said. "We clicked from the time we met so it was easy. Our bond was beyond football and it was different.
"East Nashville High School is definitely hurt. There wasn't a lot going on today. East was very quiet."

According to the study, there was a purpose behind this potential invasion of dolphin privacy; namely, to learn more about how the mammals hunted and ate.Scientists

The head of Africa's public health agency says he's “really pleased” that the World Health Organization is renaming the strains of the monkeypox disease to remove references to African regions amid concerns about stigmatization. The variant of the disease formerly known as the Congo Basin is now called Clade 1 and what was previously known as the West Africa clade is now called Clade 2, the U.N. health agency announced last week, saying it will hold an open forum to rename monkeypox altogether. “We are very glad that now we can be able to call them Clade 1 and Clade 2 rather than make reference to these variants using African regions,” Ahmed Ogwell, acting director of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said at a briefing Thursday.

The announcement at a hastily convened news conference in Berlin comes a day after Scholz met with hostile protests during a town hall event outside the capital. Scholz said his government had decided to lower the value-added tax on gas from 19% to 7% until the end of March 2024.

Brianna Timbro is running for State Representative for the town of Wethersfield. As an educator, realtor and mother of three, she is in touch with the needs of the community. She is a firm believer in elected officials being an authentic representation of the people they speak for and that her common sense, balanced approach to the issues is exactly what is needed for Wethersfield to thrive.
Brianna Timbro is a stakeholder in this community and is ready to truly fight for and be a voice for the real issues that affect the daily lives of individuals and families that consider Wethersfield their home.
Crime : Public safety should never be a “party” issue. Current legislation allows for little to no consequences for criminals when crimes are committed. Legislators need to come together and reform the state’s current policies. It is possible to create balanced legislation that allows the police and judicial system to do their jobs and hold offenders accountable while also empowering and supporting programs that will equip individuals to learn from their mistakes and have a chance to live in and contribute to society in a positive way.
Where does my opponent stand on this issue?
They are anti-safety, anti-consequences:
–      Publicly in favor of the Police Accountability Bill https://bit.ly/rarereminder
–      Introduced legislation that sought to have criminals write apology letters to their victims as a consequence for their actions https://bit.ly/HB5924
–      In favor of scrubbing criminal records for felony offenses https://bit.ly/rescindcriminalrecords
–      Had the opportunity to address the crime wave with a bi-partisan special session and declined
Taxes: Connecticut residents have been exploited for years with tax increases, as well as new tax burdens. With inflation rising for basic goods and services, this issue cannot be ignored. Hard working individuals, families and businesses are struggling because Connecticut’s state government continues to nickel and dime them every opportunity they can. From groceries and gas to cars, property and more, Connecticut residents need legislators who are willing to advocate for passing honestly balanced state budgets and legislation that will encourage the state’s economic growth while controlling state spending instead of asking the middle class for more.
Where does her opponent stand on this issue?
They have raised your taxes and cost of living:
–      Voted for tax increases, including the gas tax in the height of the pandemic
–      CBIA (Connecticut Business & Industry Association) gave her a 43% rating for her legislative performance https://bit.ly/CBIArating
Representation: Wethersfield needs a representative who is in touch with the struggles of working families and those on a fixed income. We need to get back to focusing on issues that matter and working tirelessly to bring positive change for our community.
Where does her opponent stand on this issue?
She is not giving Wethersfield a voice in Hartford. The duration of her term has included releasing her responsibility of representing the people to her superiors. As a result of this, livelihoods were threatened or taken away, parental rights were non-existent and individual rights were at the behest of the Governor Lamont’s policies, not our elected State Representatives.
–      Voted to extend Lamont’s emergency powers 6 times, including the latest vote to extend to June 30 th , 2022 https://justfacts.votesmart.org/candidate/key-votes/193864/amy-bello
–      Overwhelmingly votes along party lines
Healthcare: Ensuring quality, affordable health care is a top priority. For too long the cost of healthcare has steadily increased, especially for middle and working-class families across the state. It’s time to lower the cost of healthcare, ensure prescription drugs are affordable as well as enhance transparency with the health plans offered by the state. All of this can be possible, and without increasing taxes , by leveraging federal dollars to bring down the cost of insurance premiums, addressing anti-consumer practices that hike up prescription drug costs and require audits for the current health plans offered by the state in conjunction with increased transparency through data collection and access.
Education: As a mother of three young children, I’ve seen that in politics, having the children’s best interests at the forefront is rare. Connecticut’s failed policies have resulted in a mental health crisis, failed online curriculums, low test scores and damaging restrictions on most aspects of kids’ lives. The imbalance of power needs to change immediately. We need to improve and emphasize the importance of collaboration between the state Board of Education, local teachers, administrators and school boards to set the standard for decision making, as well as providing more assistance for schools with mental crisis intervention services.
