I've been a fan of both bossa nova and Kenny G for as long as I can remember, so hearing about this album made me very happy. Kenny G's older recordings of Desafinado and The Girl from Ipanema have enjoyed prominent spots on my "Not That Kind of Brazilian" Spotify playlist for quite a while now, so I was anxious for this to finally be released. Brazilian Nights has all the sex appeal of traditional bossa nova without the "I could get stabbed in a Rio de Janeiro alley" edge. What do I mean by that? In short, it's a masterful take on the genre, but with the more smooth and refined sound you expect from Kenny G. Listen to some of the famous Stan Getz, Paul Desmond, or Cannonball Adderley recordings that inspired this album and you'll hear it. Where the others (especially Getz) have a breathier, almost rougher sound, Kenny G has a very distinctive and smooth tone. I love that it wasn't sacrificed for the sake of sounding like every other bossa nova recording. There's a lot of emotion in the songs on Brazilian Nights, and it doesn't leave you with exactly the same feelings you might get listening to the older recordings that made some of these songs famous. It's a surprisingly fresh take on the genre, while still being a great tribute. It might be my imagination, but when I listen to this album I hear notes of wistfulness and melancholy but also passion, hope, and even safety - the kind you'd feel in a perfect moment with a special significant other. As always with Kenny G albums, this would be another great playlist for "indoor activities". Piano accompaniment factors in heavily on quite a few of the songs, and it's especially good on bossa nova classic Corvocado and the originals April Rain and Brazilian Nights. I'm sure the stuffy jazz snobs will be out in full force to try to convince everyone that Brazilian Nights is objectively bad and that the jazz greats who inspired it are rolling over in their early graves. They don't sound like much fun to be around, though, and they certainly don't change the fact that I loved this album. If you like bossa nova and you don't hate Kenny G on principle, there's a good chance you'll love it, too. As a side note, the album also comes with some live tracks of classic Kenny G songs, which are fantastic. It's still nothing like actually seeing them performed live, but they're a nice alternative to the studio recordings.

I don't know when a single album has brought me so much enjoyment in such a short time. I was listening to Amazon music at breakfast and asked Alexa the name of the song ("Summer Love"), and took a chance and ordered the CD. I had heard of Kenny G but I have none of his albums. Maybe I have been paying too many bills or I'm between seasons...the album has given me a real boost. I'm one happy fella! It's has great upbeat rhythms. Great arrangements. Great percussion. It's OK in the laptop but it is WONDERFUL in the car. I could drive from coast to coast!
Love the music included on this cd. Perfect for study time or relaxation.
I normally wouldn't buy a CD without sampling first, but I was specifically looking for Brazilian Jazz and I happen to like Kenny G... so I took a chance and Im glad that I did. I play soft instrumental music at work and several patients complimented the music the very first day that I played the CD. I highly recommend!
Beautiful CD love listening to Kenny G around the holidays helps me to relax.
It seems like more jazz men are resorting to programmed drums. I still like the sound of authentic drums. The sound is more "organic" whereas programmed drums sound too "clinical." I wish this practice would end. Once you pick up on it, it becomes an evil distraction.
Wow, awesome CD, and the music is just enjoyable.

Disappointing - too much piano and not enough sax
I bought this purely based on reviews. Unfortunately, it is not what I expected, there is an awful lot of piano on this CD. I though it was all Kenny G on his Sax, but it isn't like that. I didn't realise half of the CD was a piano. Very disappointing.
I loved this CD , great saxophonist and wonderful Latin music , I enjoyed it immensely .
LOVE IT..........like I love every CD from this so talented artist.
I bought this CD for my car absolutely fantastic what more can I say ๐

10 precious music diamonds!
One of my favourite Kenny G albums with 10 precious music diamonds!! I listen to this CD over and over every single day and I'm sure that I will play it more in summer!! I love the way Kenny express feelings and emotions through his saxophone!! That's the magic that music offers to people: talking without words, only pure and relaxing music...and Kenny G is one of the best in this kind of music.

Enjoyable music, well played, not overly "Brazilian", but, enough to display the good feel of the Brazilian vibe. Excellent songs start to finish.
It is a good addition to other Latin American music that I have in my CD collection.
