Bradley Cooper to Direct and Star in Upcoming Leonard Bernstein Biopic

Los Angeles, May 4, 2025 — Academy Award-nominated actor and filmmaker Bradley Cooper is set to return to the director's chair for his latest project, a biopic about legendary composer Leonard Bernstein. The film, titled Maestro, will see Cooper not only directing but also starring as the iconic West Side Story composer.

Cooper, known for his critically acclaimed directorial debut A Star Is Born (2018), has been deeply involved in the project for years, even studying conducting for years to authentically portray Bernstein. The film, which will explore Bernstein’s musical genius, personal struggles, and complex relationships, is already generating significant Oscar buzz.

Netflix is backing the production, with a release slated for late 2025, positioning it as a major awards season contender. Cooper co-wrote the script with Oscar winner Josh Singer (Spotlight, The Post), and the film will also feature Carey Mulligan as Bernstein’s wife, actress Felicia Montealegre.
