Woman Arrested For Having Sex With 11-Year-Old Boy In Her South Carolina Home

A South Carolina woman has been arrested and charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor in her home, local authorities said.
Brittany Leona Busques, 23, of Sumter was arrested on March 26 for allegedly engaging in sexual intercourse with an unidentified 11-year-old boy last year, according to NBC affiliate WIS News. She was unemployed at the time of the arrest.
The Sumter County Sheriff's Office said the incident occurred between Dec. 1 and Dec. 25 at Busques' residence. The boy told his grandmother about what took place, and she took him to the sheriff’s office on March 19 to file a report.
Busques was charged with one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, and of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Officials said she was brought to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center on March 26, where she remains detained.
Jail records show Busques' bond was denied on both charges, according to The State. Busques was convicted on a drug charge in 2016, court records indicate.
Officials pointed out that Busques was an acquaintance of someone the juvenile knew but wasn't an authority figure to the boy.
“This was very disturbing to learn about,” Sheriff Anthony Dennis said. “We are working to get more information about this incident to ensure Busques is prosecuted to the full extent of the law for her actions.”
The charge of criminal sexual conduct of a minor could be used against a suspect accused of raping a child, but authorities decided not to explicitly refer to the woman's actions as rape.
Authorities are investigating the events and circumstances that led to Busques and the victim meeting and interacting.
Busques faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison if found guilty of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. She faces a maximum of three years and a $3,000 fine if found guilty of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
