The basic composition of the Shadettes was finally established by , in drummer Darrell Sweet joined the group, in - vocalist Dan McCafferty and in - guitarist and main songwriter Manuel Manny Charlton. With the arrival of Charlton, the band changed their name to Nazareth, inspired by lyrics from The Weight, an American band called The Band. This is how Nazareth was born. For the next three years, the musicians, searching for their own style, play in various clubs in Edinburgh and Glasgow. However, the sound of Nazareth became increasingly 'heavy' for club music and the team decides to move from the province to London. In , at Trident Studios in London, the band recorded their debut album, Nazareth. However, the release of the album does not bring the group success, subsequent tours in England and Europe together with Atomic Rooster do not change the position. The musicians do not despair and begin recording a second album called Exercises, it was written at the same studio in London, and the producer was the famous Roy Thomas Baker, who later worked with the band Queen. After the release of Exercises in , music critics unanimously stated that the group does not trace any one musical direction, there is no unity of style in the compositions, although the material is made at a fairly professional level. But the musicians did not succumb to the influence, continued to experiment and hone their skills at rehearsals and tours. In the same year, Nazareth together with Deep Purple goes on an American tour. Tours in the United States were very successful, not without the help of Roger Glover, bassist Deep Purple and professional producer, the group began to form its own hard rock sound. In May , the album Razamanaz was released, produced by Roger Glover. With the release of this album came a turning point in the work of Nazareth, the group is gaining popularity in Europe and Japan, in the British charts the album took 11th place. The magnificent compositions of Razamanaz and Bad Bad Boy become hits and are performed by the group on tour. With the growth of popularity, Nazareth comes commercial success. After touring in , the band released a new album Move Me, quite interesting work in the spirit of an energetic, heavy guitar sound, but the style of Manny Charlton is clearly lacking. Darrell has been a permanent member of the band since the formation of Nazareth. Rumors spread about the breakup of the group, but fortunately they were not destined to come true, Darrell was replaced by the son of bassist Pete Agnew Lee.
