BoJack Horseman Wiki is a FANDOM TV Community.
Hollyhock Manheim-Mannheim-Guerrero-Robinson-Zilberschlag-Hsung-Fonzerelli-McQuack, after making a brief appearance in the season three finale , was introduced as a new major character in the fourth season of BoJack Horseman , and became a reccurring character in the following seasons.

She initially believes she is BoJack Horseman's daughter, and after a DNA test confirms the two are related, she stays with BoJack as she tries to find out who her mother is. It is eventually revealed that she is actually BoJack's half-sister, sired by BoJack's father, Butterscotch , with his mistress, Henrietta .

According to her birth certificate, as shown in What Time Is It Right Now , she was originally named " Girl Horse , " before being adopted and raised by eight gay fathers .

In Season 5 , she begins attending college at Wesleyan University in Connecticut.

In Season 6 , BoJack becomes the acting professor at Wesleyan. Initially, Hollyhock supports it, but after learning about the incident with Maddy in Tesuque she starts to distance herself from him, and after seeing BoJack's interview with Biscuits Braxby she decides to end all ties with him months later in The Horny Unicorn.

Hollyhock is a female chestnut horse. She has chestnut fur with a darker chestnut brown mane with bangs that are worn parted, a white diamond-shaped mark on her forehead, lighter brown fur on her mouth and nostrils, and lighter brown freckles on her cheeks, neck, chest, legs, and upper arms.

According to the model sheets , she is around 5 '8 and has a chubby/heavyset build.

Hollyhock wears a teal long-sleeved shirt with a dark teal collar and sleeve cuffs, dark grey ripped jeans with holes at the knees and pale yellow sneakers with pink socks. She also has two piercings on her right ear, and she also wears a double-stranded beaded necklace with a simple gold feather-shaped pendant. She sometimes wears a purple jacket with brown fur lining on the hood, especially during cold weather.

According to Hollyhock, people always say she looks a lot like BoJack , which is why she initially thought he was her father.

In the later part of Season 4 Hollyhock slowly loses weight from episode to episode by unknowingly drinking drugged coffee by Beatrice Horseman . It becomes the most noticeable in Lovin that cali lifestyle!! , as her clothes are now baggy and there appears to be loose skin around her stomach. She returns to her normal body shape by the end of What Time Is It Right Now .

Hollyhock is a good-hearted, caring, and intelligent girl who finished her high school education early and took a gap year. Aside from that, she isn't that different from a normal teenage girl. She's seeking, curious, innocent, smart, sweet, sarcastic, awkward, and kind of dorky.

Producer Lisa Hanawalt describes Hollyhock as being " as anxious and isolated as BoJack ," but " cute " and " has a chip on her shoulders ." [1]

As such, she has acquired a few traits from BoJack; she’s a bit lazy as she does not help clean the house at all when Todd lies that she’s a maid and falls asleep twice, and she enjoys eating and has a big appetite—as she claims she ate a whole box of donuts, and then later is seen finishing a whole personal pizza, and then eating a bag of chips. She also hates honeydew.

Despite having a non-conventional family composed of eight polyamorous fathers, Hollyhcok had a supportive, loving upbringing and she loves her dads, however part of her has always wanted to know who her biological parents are, especially her mother. This makes her feel somewhat guilty because she believes she’s being ungrateful for her fathers.

She also reveals in Stupid Piece of Sh*t that she has a “ tiny voice ” in the back of her head that gives her negative, intrusive thoughts, such as telling her she’s worthless and stupid and ugly and everyone hates her—which is very similar to the anxiety induced inner monologues BoJack has throughout the episode. She believes it’s just " a dumb teenage girl thing. "

She is shown to have other insecurities like this throughout Season 4 . In The Judge she has insecurities about her weight, saying the skinny, voluptuous L.A. girls on the show BoJack is guest-starring on makes her feel like a blob. Later, BoJack inadvertently agrees with this when he’s trying to convince her Miles , the intern on set is a bad guy, offending and upsetting her.

At the end of the episode, BoJack ended up being right about Miles, but he ends up being terrible in a different way than what BoJack expected, and he stops contacting Hollyhock. She asks BoJack if a guy like Miles could really like someone like her and that if she’s pretty, and if he ever gets the feeling that, " To know you more is to love you less? "

Unlike BoJack, however, she is willing to confront her emotions, as mentioned above she talks to him about her insecurities and anxieties. She willingly starts crying in Commence Fracking when she thinks finding her mom is impossible, which is due to her dads telling her it’s okay to do so and not feel bad about feeling bad. She also confides in Tawnie, her best friend, about being afraid to try drinking due to not wanting to lose control.

Despite her apparent laziness seen in her debut episode , she is very determined to find her mother, even going around asking dozens of women who BoJack slept with in Hollywoo all by herself.

She and Tawnie, apparently get into " fights " a lot, which according to Tawnie are apparently usually about the same things, but they always make up because they do care about each other.

Although it was revealed that BoJack was not her biological father, but was, in fact, her half-brother, and despite not having the greatest experience living under BoJack, Season 4 concludes with her saying that she never had a brother before, indicating she still wants him in her life as a sibling relationship, even when her fathers at that point do not approve of him. By Season 5 they call each other every Sunday, and in Ancient History , she flies from Connecticut to Los Angeles to spend the day with him.

She appears to be quite compassionate towards BoJack, as she asks him where he disappears to all day long and shows concern for him. She is initially forgiving, to an extent, towards his questionable actions.

In turn, BoJack seems to be very protective of Hollyhock and constantly wants to look out for her, even being considerably clingy to their relationship—but also is scared to become close to her, as he believes he may poison her like everyone else in his life, or that his “ poison ” is already in her, and as revealed in The Kidney Stays in the Picture , when talking to Doctor Champ he admits he has a resentment of horses due to his abusive parents and the fact Hollyhock reminds him of himself.

In Ancient History , he can’t bring himself to hug her when it appears she is approaching him for one, and when he drops her off at the airport she tells him she loves him, but all he can do is smile, which does sadden her to an extent. He does return the hug she gives him when visiting her in Connecticut in The Face of Depression .

However, due to being secretly drugged by Beatrice , BoJack’s mom, with weight loss supplements throughout the course of Season 4 , which leads to her overdose. Hollyhock then develops PTSD, having an anxiety attack upon returning to BoJack’s home for the first time since the incident and dumping his opioids down the sink after finding them and thinking he drugged her.

She experiences another anxiety attack when she goes to a party in A Quick One, While He's Away , where she wants to try drinking for the first time, due to her fear of losing control from alcohol, everyone around her getting drunk and passing out, and the trauma of being drugged. A young man named Peter helps calm her down using grounding techniques. Later she tells him she’s trying to " be okay-er overtime " herself when he initially uses the phrase to describe the taste of alcohol.

After learning from Peter about BoJack staying with the former's then high school-aged female friend and her family, going to prom with them, and causing Peter’s girlfriend to get alcohol poisoning and ditched them at the ER, which led to Peter having anxiety issues for a few years, Hollyhock begins to distance herself from BoJack when he becomes a drama professor at her college and acts hostile when he tries to hang out with her.

Hollyhock attempts to set boundaries between her being a student and him being a professor. She even quits rugby after he keeps showing up to cheer for her when the real reason she joined was to get her mind off of him. She also restrains herself from implying she loves him after she somewhat confirms to him that they’re in a fight. Hollyhock tells him he’s forcing himself into her life, and being biological siblings doesn’t mean anything when they don’t actually know each other. She tells him they need to take things slow, albeit reluctantly.

After his second interview with Biscuits Braxby , she cuts him out of her life altogether by sending him a letter three months later and changing her phone number.

Both revelations about her brother lead Hollyhock to realize while she does care for BoJack, and has willingly put up with his less than good qualities and behavior in the relatively short time they knew each other, she doesn't actually know him, and the fact he has hurt, done shady things to, and abused his power over the women in his life, including being responsible for Sarah Lynn’s overdose and death, when she herself is traumatized by being drugged and overdosing while she was under his watch, she needed to cut ties from him so his toxicity wouldn't affect her anymore than it already has.

Hollyhock was conceived in December of 1999 . Butterscotch Horseman , BoJack's father, had cheated on his wife, Beatrice , with their maid, Henrietta Platchkey . Beatrice is initially angry, but she talks to Henrietta, who is struggling to earn money to pay tuition for nursing school.

Beatrice says she'll pay for her tuition and convinces her to give the baby up for adoption, saying she doesn't want her to end up like her, giving up her life and dreams for the baby and letting Butterscotch poison her life.

Hollyhock is born on September 24, 2000 . Henrietta pleads from Beatrice to let her hold her baby and sobs as she’s taken away from her, due to Beatrice not wanting her too get attached.

Hollyhock was originally named " Girl Horse " by Beatrice, but later she was adopted by eight gay men, Dashawn Manheim , Steve Mannheim , Jose Guerrero , Cupe Robinson III , Otto Zilberschlag , , Gregory Hsung , Arturo "Ice Man" Fonzerelli and Quackers McQuack , and renamed Hollyhock Manheim-Mannheim-Guerrero-Robinson-Zilberschlag-Hsung-Fonzerelli-McQuack.

BoJack never knew about Hollyhock’s birth, and Butterscotch died on Halloween, 2009 .

She graduated high school a year early in 2016 , and she takes a gap year during the events of Season 4 .

Hollyhock first appears in That Went Well , which takes place in 2016 . Princess Carolyn had just opened her own management agency. As she sits in her new
