At d&d Blur spell, your body will become blurred, wavering and shifting to all that who can able to see you. Any creature has a disadvantage for the duration on attack rolls which are against you. For this effect, an attacker is immune when if it doesn’t rely on sight like with blindsight or it can see through the illusion, with the true sight.

Hello spellcasters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spell book and thank you so much for checking out the 11th episode of our second level spell series. Today we’re gonna be taking a look at one of the other og protection magics out there and honestly one of the coolest ones to think of from a thematic standpoint lots of flavor text. It is it did everything will get blur first and foremost.
It is usable by the sorcerer, wizard and the artificer and it is found in the good old players handbook. So we should all have access to it. Honestly i really like this one, i remember using this in a couple ad in the video games. Out of the way let’s go check out the mechanics.
Your cast time is the standard one action. Your range is self, the duration is one minute and sadly it is a concentration spell so just bear that in mind you using it. The effect at a glance is as followed: All attack rolls that rely on sight are made with disadvantage. Which is pretty cool.
The components are just verbal which i really like and the school is illusion which is great because we haven’t covered a whole lot of them recently so i really like covering them. Fantastic with that being said, let’s check out the full description and just break it down a bit further.
In this Blur 5E your body do become blurred, shifting and even wavering to all those who can able to see you. For the duration, any of the creature which has disadvantage on the attack rolls against you. Basically, an attacker is immune to this effect if it does not rely on sight, as with blindsight, or else can see through illusions, like with truesight.
Really good, basically if they need to be able to see you to hit you and they don’t have some kind of magical or racial effect that kind of stops that then they got disadvantage which is really good. But it’s kind of a bummer because it is concentration.
That being said, if it wasn’t concentration i feel like this would be way too good. So i get it, disappointing but i get it, you know. That being said, hopefully we can spot a silver lining through one heck of an alternative use. Fantastic let’s move on to the alternative use section.
So, i actually thought about this for quite some time there’s not a lot of text to work with so i couldn’t really think of anything at first but then it dawned on me as those right in front of me the whole time i was writing and researching it if you have a reason to protect your identity this spell could potentially save you from a pretty nasty i’m asking.
What i mean by this is it blurs you makes you hard if at all impossible to recognize. Also there’s only the verbal component so you could essentially be restrained and still pull this off. Just saying, that’s kind of the best thing i could think of in all honesty. I’m sure there are others.
That being said, if you have any alternative uses, crazy ideas, or cool stories involving blur, please let me know down in the comments beneath i’m just really curious to see what you guys can come up with.
