Blues Hockey: Fischer's OT Heroics Save Season

BLUES HOCKEY: ST. LOUIS PULLS OFF THRILLING OT WIN TO KEEP PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE

St. Louis, MO — April 28, 2025 — In a must-win game to stay in the postseason hunt, the St. Louis Blues delivered a heart-stopping 3-2 overtime victory against the Colorado Avalanche last night at Enterprise Center.

Rookie sensation Luka Fischer netted the game-winner just 1:12 into overtime, firing a wrist shot past Avalanche goaltender Alexandar Georgiev to send the home crowd into a frenzy. The 21-year-old forward, called up earlier this season, has now scored four goals in his last five games, proving to be a crucial spark for the Blues’ late-season push.

'It’s an unreal feeling,' Fischer said postgame. 'The guys battled hard all night, and we knew we had to get this one. The fans were electric—that’s what makes playing here so special.'

The Blues (40-32-8) came into the game trailing the Nashville Predators by two points for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. With just two games remaining in the regular season, every point is critical.

Captain Brayden Schenn opened the scoring in the first period with a power-play goal, but the Avalanche responded with two quick tallies from Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen to take a 2-1 lead. St. Louis fought back in the third, with Jordan Kyrou tying the game on a breakaway with just under seven minutes left in regulation.

Goaltender Jordan Binnington made 34 saves, including several key stops in overtime before Fischer’s heroics.

'This team never quits,' said head coach Drew Bannister. 'We’ve faced adversity all year, but we’re still fighting. This was a huge character win.'

The Blues now face a do-or-die road trip, taking on the Chicago Blackhawks and Dallas Stars to close out the season. If they win both and get some help, they could sneak into the playoffs for the first time in three years.

Fans are already calling it 'The Fischer Miracle'—but the job isn’t done yet.
