A musician’s health and wellness retreat and the Boogie for Bluegrass 5K Walk/Run sponsored by the Pioneer Center, the Glenville State College Bluegrass Music Education Center, will be held April 24-25.

The event coincides with GSC’s alumni weekend.

The retreat will include workshops on nutrition, posture, weightlifting and making healthy choices. Blood pressure screenings, yoga sessions and a chiropractor and massage therapist also will be available.

The workshops aim to promote good health, particularly to musicians, but are open to everyone. Admission is free.

Sessions will begin with a health and wellness luncheon for Honor Band students with Dr. Megan Darby and the Glenville State music faculty and alumni from 11 a.m. to noon, a nutrition, exercise and sleep panel with athletics staff from noon to 12:30, a posture and mental health workshop with Dr. Kevin McKee from 12:30-1 p.m. and a musician’s lifestyle Q&A with music faculty and students from 1-1:30 p.m.

Minnie Hamilton Health System will provide blood pressure, body mass index and lipid panel screenings from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The evening will consist of yoga sessions from 5-5:45 p.m. and 6-6:45 p.m. and massage therapist and chiropractor demonstrations from 5-7 p.m. Following the evening workshops will be a concert featuring alumni George Ward and Buddy Griffin at 8 p.m. at the Pioneer Stage.

Admission to the concert is by donation.

On Saturday morning, the Boogie for Bluegrass 5K will kick off with registration at 8 a.m. outside of the Pioneer Stage.

The race will begin at 8:30 a.m.
