Welcome to IGN's Walkthrough for The Legend of Zelda : Breath of the Wild. This page contains information on the BotW main quest - Divine Beast Vah Rudania , including how to get to and complete the Divine Beast dungeon that resembles a salamander.

Speaking with the Goron Boss Bludo, you’ll learn that the Divine Beast has gone crazy as of late, making a mess of Death Mountain , driving the Goron workers down to the lower mines, and attacking the city. Bludo has been using a cannon to fight back but the Divine Beast keeps coming - and now he needs to find his assistant Yunobo who went to the nearby Abandoned North Mine to find painkillers to Bludo. That’s where you come in.

With flameproof gear or elixirs in hand, leave the Goron City from the northern hills and pass Shae Mo’sah Shrine as you go up to the mines.

There are more Rock Octoroks waiting on the path here, so be ready with Remote Bombs to shut them up. As you round the bend and get a good look at the lava fields of Darunia Lake , you’ll spot a large cannon and a Goron who isn’t your target.

Speak to Drak, and learn that Yunobo was heading off to a vault in the middle of the lake that’s surrounded by enemies - and you’ll be warned that the area is even hotter than where you are now. That’s right - even hotter. Which means that just one piece of Flamebreaker Armor or just one Flameproof Elixir won’t cut it. Either two pieces or use an Elixir plus an armor piece to survive from here on out.

To get across the Abandoned North Mine in the middle of Darunia Lake , you’ll need to carefully cross the islands infested with Lizalfos by using the geysers to soar across with your paraglider . However, before you go, check out the cannon by the entrance. You can put a round Remote Bomb inside, and smack the lever with a weapon to orient it at a Lizalfos on a platform, then detonate to send a cannon ball launching in his directions.

Now paraglide down to where you shot the Lizalfos and use the cannon here to take out the two waiting to ambush you with fire arrows further up.

You’ll have to cross over a gap straight into enemy fire - so use the gust to get around them and veer right to find a cannon you can use to take them out - plus another watchtower to the right. In fact, if you put a bomb in and hit the lever, you can fire midway to blow up a boulder hiding ore. Head up the path and run past the next two snipers to the next cannon by gliding across the lava to a high platform. They won’t be precisely on target so you’ll have to detonate while changing the canon position.

Take out the sniper in front of the giant skull and glide on over to the next platform.

There’s a large wooden structure with a canon to the left that’s your next target, as you can demolish the entire thing with the canon. You can then move the canon right to destroy a boulder that releases another vent, and use it to glide up to the highest canon that you can use you to destroy the boulder blocking the vault.

This will free Yunobo, who you can meet as you enter the vault. He’ll thank you and rush off to deliver the painkillers - letting you raid the vault for rupees , weapons , and two chests holding a purple rupee and 10 Ice Arrows.

When you return to the Goron Boss Bludo, he’ll reward you for your efforts with 3 Flameproof Elixirs , and mention the Goron Champion, Daruk. Seeing Daruk carved into the mountain will cause Link to remember another memory of his time with the Goron Champion on the Divine Beast.

After the flashback, Bludo will mention that Yunobo is a descendant of Daruk’s and can even use his special shielding ability - which they use to drive away the Divine Beast. Speaking of which, Bludo will send you to speak with Yunobo out by Eldin Bridge. To get there, continue on the road past the Abandoned North Mine and clear out the other Rock Octorok as the road doubles back over Goron City’s Stolock Bridge.

Video Guide: Assaulting Divine Beast Vah Rudania
On the other side, note the minecart - which you can use Stasis on and smack a bunch to give you a ride. Past the revitalizing Goron Hot Springs is another treacherous path with Fire Keese , Rock Octoroks, and a Lizalfos lying in wait. If more magma bombs rain down from Death Mountain, be sure to take cover under an overhang. Continue up the path past Daqa Koth Shrine on the left to meet with Yunobo - who is currently being harassed by two Moblins.

After saving him once more, you’ll note the Bridge of Eldin is out. The only way to lower it is by using the canon, and thankfully Yunobo offers to be the cannon ball.

Move it into place and drop a Remote Bomb in and detonate to send Yunobo across. As you cross the bridge, The Divine Beast Rudania will make its appearance and deploy sentries all over the path.

If any of them spot you in their beams, Rudania will cause magma bombs to fall from the sky. This means you’ll have to work with Yunobo to not get spotted - or get into cover if you do.

The first Sentry patrols up ahead, so wait until it crosses over a tunnel to rush inside and make Yunobo wait until it’s back on the other side, and keep moving forward.

As you round a corner, another Sentry hovers motionless beyond some boulders - but you can use stop Yunobo and climb to the ledge above the Sentry and drop boulders on it to kill it instantly. Head up the path beyond and use the cannon to fire Yunobo directly at the Divine Beast, moving it upwards.

As you continue your ascent, the ledges ahead are closely guarded by three sentries. Leave Yunobo behind and scale the rocks to the left to find a set of metal crates. Use your Magnesis Rune to send them crashing into the sentries, and keep moving to the one guarding a tiny ravine.

You can either send the crates over to the ledge next to it, or pull up the metal slabs in the ground nearby. Summon Yunobo when you're done and keep heading up the slopes.

At the top, a Moblin guards the next canon - engage him carefully as he likes to swing his sledgehammer about with great range. When he’s dead, have Yunobo pop into the cannon and take aim at Rudania once more.

Along the next path, you’ll spy two Sentries patrolling a gusty vent with ore. If you throw your Remote Bombs from a distance, they’ll catch the current and fly into the air, letting you blast them from safety. Clear them out and bring Yunobo to the next group of three Sentries and repeat the process. If that doesn’t work, scale the rocks behind them to find more steel crates to smash into them with Magnesis.

Two more Moblins guard the next cannon, but if you’re still up top with the steel boxes - why not surprise them with tons of steel crashing down from above? When the Moblins are out of the way, bring Yunobo in for a final cannon ball attack. This will drive Divine Beast Vah Rudania into the volcano, where Link will give chase to enter the beast.

Video Guide: DIvine Beast Vah Rudania Dungeon
Inside Divine Beast Vah Rudania , your old pal Daruk will tell you that if you want to regain control of Rudania, you’ll need to find the Guidance Stone first. Before heading inside, turn around and look for a chest on the tail of the beast for an Ancient Screw .

Entering the beast, the door will slam behind you, making the interior extremely dark. Thankfully, ganon’s Blight will be illuminated, as well the eyes you need to shoot to eliminate the Blight. Take out the three eyes to loot the three chests holding a Dragonbone Boko Club , Ice Arrows, and a Torch with special properties.

Using said torch , light it with the blue flame by the entrance and look around right of the chests to find a brazier by a sealed door. Light the brazier to open the door. Get ready to face a Guardian Scout on the other side, and then look for four eyes in the room - two on the left and two on the right - to clear out the Blight.

Clearing them will reveal three more chests holding Arrows and a Knight’s Bow. To the left of the bow is another brazier you can light to unseal the nearby door, which leads to the Guidance Stone.

With the map of the Divine Beast, you’ll also have locations for all five terminal you need to take control: one near you, two by the back legs, one by the tail, and one on the top. You also now have the ability to tilt Rudania by 90 degrees, changing the layout of the dungeon. As light has now entered the innards of this beast, look for the first terminal on the wall to the right.

Try tilting the beast, and note how the dungeon shifts, and that the terminal ends up on a small island, with a ledge high above. Tilting the beast back, head to the opposite side of the room from the terminal and get ready to reorient yourself up here when it tilts again. From up here you can easily glide down and activate the first terminal.

Slide the Divine Beast back and return to the ledge high above the terminal. From here you can exit the innards to the outside of the tilted Rudania, If you look left you can spot the spines of the beast form a long platform filled with Blight.

Drop down and take out the blight here, though you can’t quite reach the terminal. Head further down the platform and hop over the railing to open a chest on the spine holding an Ancient Core . Brace yourself against the ridge of the spine and tilt the beast back to see the terminal covered in blight, guarded by a maw that spits skulls. Kill the eye, and then activate the second terminal.

Drop back inside of the beast and move to the rear legs where the next two terminals are. One features a receptacle for a ball, while the other is sealed behind a door with a large wooden plank and a lot of dry leaves. Light an arrow by dipping it in the blue flame and fire it to ignite the block. Then use Magnesis to force the doors open to the third terminal.

Also note the dried leaves along the wall behind the terminal, if you shoot a fire arrow , you can unravel a chest at the ceiling that contains an Ancient Gear .

You’ll note the opposite terminal seems to have a large grate that goes all the way across the room. Tilt the beast again to make the grate into a long slope going up, and start climbing. Halfway you can spot a chest on the side, so tilt it back for a moment to grab the Knight’s Bow.

Follow the grate outside to see that it leads to a sphere trapped behind a gate, and an unlit brazier is nearby.

Before going back inside, while the beast is tilted, go around the outside of the head to look down at the underside of the beast. There is more Blight down there guarded by two maws. Shoot the eye, then drop down - but don’t tilt or you’ll be killed.

Instead, float along the underside of the beast towards the middle circular area to find a small hole you can drop down. Inside is a chest with a Silver Rupee and switch to unlock the door.

Back inside the beast, light a torch with the blue flame and then tilt the beast back so you can exit and light the brazier. Now run back to the inside and tilt to watch the sphere follow you. You need to get it all the way to the end by guiding it along the grates. But moving it back will only cause the sphere to return right? Instead, use Stasis on the sphere before tilting the beast back so when stasis wears off, it will go down the slope into the beast instead. It will roll down the slope but stop at a metal block.

Tilt the beast, then move the block back, and use stasis on the metal block while you tilt it once more so the sphere can empty out into the receptacle. Now you can use the fourth terminal.

The last terminal is located near the rear of the beast. Tilt the Beast back onto its belly and look for a sealed door to spy an unlit brazier on the other side. Light your arrow using the blue flame and shoot through the hole in the door to light the brazier on the other side. Inside, a jet of flame blocks your path, but look up at the ceiling for dried leaves blocking something. Shoot a fire arrow at it to reveal a large metal box.

Use Magnesis to place it over the flames, and then tilt the beast so that you now have an opening to crawl through while the box protects you. Reorient the beast on the other side to activate the last terminal.

Now you can exit the innards of Rudania and head onto the roof to the main control terminal, but Ganon won’t make things that easy….

Ganon will summon his incarnation - Fireblight Ganon.

This monstrosity has a giant sword in one hand, and flames in the other. However, the first phase is a pretty standard fight.

He’ll use his sword for large sweep attacks or overhand smashes, and may wind up for a large spin attack. Luckily, he’ll give you a tell by holding his weapon to the side or above depending on which angle he’s going for - giving you the chance to pull off a perfect dodge and flurry attack in response.

When he moves away, he’ll cast small fireballs at you - so be ready to strafe out of the way.

When he gets to half his health, he’ll change things up, lighting his weapon on fire and encasing himself in fire as well. When he does this, he’ll teleport to a random part of the arena and begin absorbing energy to release a giant meteor that has a huge area of effect. However, as he brings in power, he’s vulnerable to you throwing a Remote Bomb in his direction - detonate it when he sucks it in so you can break his shield and lay into him with your weapons .

When his fire shield breaks, he’ll resume his regular attacks - augmented by his fire. This is both a bad and a good thing, as though he does more damage and leaves a fire trail, the fire creates gusts you can use to paraglide above him and go in for a slowdown snipe at his eye.

This is also important if he tries to use his eye to fire a laser blast like a Guardian, as a shot to the eye will stun him. As long as you prepare to dodge his moves and retaliate, and make use of those crits to his eye to deal damage when he’s stunned, Fireblight Ganon will fall to your attacks before long.

With Fireblight Ganon dead, you’ll earn a new Heart Container, and control of Divine Beast Vah Rudania will be yours. Daruk’s spirit will now be free as well, and in thanks, he’ll grant you a new ability - Daruk’s Protection. When used, it will protect you from all forms of damage while blocking.

After being teleported back to Goron City , be sure to wrap things up by speaking to the Goron Boss Bludo. You’ll be thanked for saving the day, and Bludo will invite you to grab the treasure in his house - the Boulder Breaker - a mighty weapon wielded by Daruk the Goron Champion. If you should ever damage the blade, you can talk to the blacksmith in town to repair it. Speaking of blades, Bludo will mention the Sword of the Hylian Champion that apparently sleeps in a forest somewhere. Might be worth looking into sometime.
