"The Black Page #1" is a piece by American composer Frank Zappa known for being extraordinarily difficult to play. Originally written for the drum kit and melodic percussion (as "The Black Page Drum Solo"), the piece was later rearranged in several versions, including the disco "easy teenage New York version" (commonly referred to as "The Black Page #2") and a so-called "new-age version", among others.
Drummer Terry Bozzio said of the piece:
He wrote it, because we had done this 40-piece orchestra gig together and he was always hearing the studio musicians in LA, that he was musing on that, talking about the fear of going into sessions some morning and being faced with "the black page". So he decided to write his "Black Page". Then he gave it to me, and I could play parts of it right away. But it wasn't a pressure thing, it just sat on my music stand and for about 15 minutes every day for 2 weeks, before we would rehearse, I would work on it. And after 2 weeks I had it together and I played it for him. And he said, "Great!", took it home, wrote the melody and the chord changes, brought it back in. And we all started playing it.[1]
One of Zappa's complex, percussion-based compositions featured on Zappa in New York.

On the double live album Zappa in New York (recorded 12/1976, released 3/1978), Zappa noted the "statistical density" of the piece.[2] It is written in common time with extensive use of tuplets, including tuplets inside tuplets. At several points there is a crotchet triplet (sixth notes) in which each beat is counted with its own tuplet of 5, 5 and 6; at another is a minim triplet (third notes) in which the second beat is a quintuplet (actually a tuplet of 7), and the third beat is divided into tuplets of 4 and 5. The song ends with a crotchet triplet composed of tuplets of 5, 5, and 6, followed by two tuplets of 11 in the space of one.[citation needed]
Zappa would re-arrange the song into "The Black Page #2" shortly after his band's mastery of the piece. This second version has a disco beat, but nevertheless retains nearly every metric complexity from #1. One notable difference in this version is that the final set of tuplets feature a rhythmic change and are repeated three times to conclude the song. The 1991 live album Make a Jazz Noise Here includes a so-called "new age version", which incorporates lounge and reggae music. The 1994 album You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 4 featured a version from 1984 that had a ska motif. Both of these versions included guitar solos from Zappa.
In 2001, Terry Bozzio and Chad Wackerman released the video "Solos and Duets" which features "The Black Page" played as a duet between the two ex-Zappa drummers with a transcription of the piece scrolling along the bottom of the screen as it is being played. In 2006, "The Black Page" was featured on Zappa Plays Zappa - Tour de Frank, an ambitious effort by Dweezil Zappa to bring Zappa music to the stage again, played by himself and a new band. The 2006 tour also included, as special guests, Zappa alumni; singer & woodwind player Napoleon Murphy Brock, drummer Bozzio, and guitarist Steve Vai. In the 2006 shows, "The Black Page" was played first as a drum solo by Bozzio and then a second time as a guitar duet with Steve Vai. In 2014 "The Black Page" was immortalized by Terry Bozzio in the form of art he calls Rhythm & Sketch. On canvas Terry's sketch of Zappa with "The Black Page" is layered with a rhythmic pattern of light traces from Terry's drumsticks. This was a limited run of 25 canvases and sold out quickly.[citation needed] Drummer Morgan Ågren and guitarist Mike Keneally played the piece as an encore during Devin Townsend's "Empath Vol. 1" - Tour in 2019/2020.[3]

Today, the National Black Cultural Information Trust (NBCI Trust) published the Disinformation InfoGuide for Black Social Media Users. This twelve-page InfoGuid…e contains definitions, examples, information, resources, and action steps to help Black communities combat disinformation on social media.
This InfoGuide predominantly focuses on Twitter. However, much of the same information applies to various social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. It includes ten steps that Black social media users can take to help stop the spread of disinformation targeting our communities. It also provides educational resources and recommended organizations concerning voting rights, civil rights, activism, and cultural awareness.
“It’s imperative that Black communities are aware of intentional actions by bad actors that are attempting to influence how we think and even suppress our votes. One of the biggest issues concerning disinformation online is that many people are unaware that it’s even happening. Then, when people become aware, they are not sure what to do. The purpose of the Disinformation InfoGuide for Black Social Media Users is to educate the public, create awareness, and equip people with actions they can take to combat disinformation targeting our communities,” said Jessica Ann Mitchell Aiwuyor, Founder of the National Black Cultural Information Trust.
In addition to the InfoGuide, NBCI Trust has Public Service Announcements available for free use to podcasters, bloggers, Youtubers, radio, and television stations. NBCI Trust will also host live webinars and online teach-ins to continue increasing public awareness as part of its mission to “correct and challenge cultural misinformation and disinformation surrounding racial/ethnic identity, anti-Blackness, and other false narratives that harm our communities.”

Articles about Slavery and DNA are fundamentally about rape.
It's about European men committing mass rape for centuries. Raping enslaved African women on slave… ships and multiple continents. Yet the words "rape" or "raped" appear sparingly.
The New York Times recently published great a article about new research by 23andMe, that traces genetic data stemming from the transatlantic slave trade. The research is described as “one of the most comprehensive investigations of the transatlantic slave trade ever done.”
I’m glad this research is being shared and made available to the general public.
This excerpt is particularly damning, “European men contributed three times more to the modern-day gene pool of people of African descent than European women did. In the British Caribbean, they contributed 25 times more.”
However, we need to be clear about what we’re discussing.
This research is saying that European men raped a lot. They raped enslaved African women (some men too) every day and the evidence of their rape is widespread. So why avoid the term rape? Why lessen its usage?
This is the kind of stuff that gets my ancestral rage rising. Avoiding the term “rape” implies something dangerous. It opens the doorway for harmful narratives that imply “consent” or “enjoyment.” It must be clearly stated that this was centuries of mass rape and mass murder. I stress using the term “rape” for a number of key reasons. One of them is the Jezebel stereotype continuously used to hypersexualize and dehumanize Black women in order to justify the rape and sexual violence we’ve endured.
Another important reason to emphasize the term “rape” in these articles about DNA and the transatlantic slave trade is that it helps us better conceptualize: Transgenerational Trauma, Trans-Generational Epigenetic Injury, and the Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome that continue to affect our lives.
I deeply appreciate the scope of the work by 23andMe researchers and will continue to share it. And I’m glad that the New York Times covered it. However, in order to fully grasp what happened to enslaved Africans and how it affects their descendants, we need language that repeatedly clarifies what they endured in no uncertain terms.
This is about mass rape. Let us never forget.

I know that removing Confederate statues, flags and monuments won’t end structural racism. I know that removing Confederate flags won’t end police brutality. I …know that the broken statues of Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis won’t heal the wounds of oppression.
But I still want to watch them fall.
I want to see them crumble in bits. I want to see them flung into the water. I want the heads knocked off and graffiti to cover their names.
The point that many are missing, is that the existence of these statues and monuments is an act of terrorism itself.
Protestors against police brutality and systemic racism have every right to knock these monuments down if local municipalities and the federal government refuse to do so.
It’s time for America to deport Confederates, send them back to the land of defeat. Remember them as they were, terrorists, enslavers, traitors, and losers. It’s long been time to watch them crumble.
Neo-slavery, neo-colonialism, wage slavery, systemic anti-Black racism, and oppression – I’m looking forward to all of those crumbling too.

Armed Black citizens escorted lawmaker, State Rep. Sarah Anthony into the Michigan State Capitol after she was threatened by racist protestors that were carryin…g Confederate flags, Nazi symbolism, and nooses. I'm glad that the local Black community is working to protect her. We may have to start doing this on a regular basis.
"At least three African Americans carrying large rifles escorted Anthony across Capitol Avenue earlier this morning so she could safely attend committee meetings without fear of intimidation. She said she didn’t necessarily request the help, but welcomed the extra security nonetheless.
“We were all just appalled by the lack of support and lack of security that I had, that other legislators had, and the fact that a lot of the demonstrators last week were adorning many racist, anti-Semitic signage. I think it just triggered a lot of folks, especially African Americans."
After a hoard of armed and angry protesters swarmed Lansing last week, State Rep. Sarah Anthony brought some extra protection on her way to the State Capitol today.

The solutions to our problems require UNITY. We can not make it in this world alone. We need work with each other across the Pan African World.
Isolationism an…d anti-Black xenophobia won't save us. Regardless of ethnicity, tribe, or nationality - if you are a person of African descent, Pan Africanism is your best chance of surviving and creating a better future.
Don't let anyone fool you. We NEED Pan Africanism, especially now!

In year 2020, there is a band of Black Americans insisting on calling themselves slaves. If you know someone that has fallen for this rhetoric. Save yourself so…metime and don’t try to convince them otherwise. ADOS is like an illness. Symptoms include: refusal of reading and understanding African history, conflating issues, spreading misinformation, self deprecation, allegiance to YouTube celebrities, allegiance to divisions, unrealistic expectations of white supremacist systems, and eagerness to attack other people of African descent in exchange for crumbs from the master’s table that may or may not be distributed.
I write about ADOS not to convince their followers but to prevent the illness from spreading.
Please pray that they get well soon and join me in focusing on prevention and truth telling. Remind our people that they descend from greatness. They descend from the first people on the planet. They descend from Africans that built some of the greatest civilizations known to man. Focus on the youth. Focus on the students. Focus on uplifting our communities, focus on uplifting unity, and telling the truth.
“If you make a man feel that he is inferior, you do not have to compel him to accept an inferior status, for he will seek it himself. If you make a man think that he is justly an outcast, you do not have to order him to the back door. He will go without being told; and if there is no back door, his very nature will demand one.” - Dr. Carter G. Woodson
