When molle came out, I knew immediately that it would be popular (it just looks so "tactical"), and that it was a horrible idea. Frankly, its existence just means that instead of manufacturers putting a pocket on your backpack where there had always been a pocket, you now have to buy an extra pouch, with three extra layers of material and all the attendant weight, cost and snag-potential. Face it, nobody changes their "mission" enough to justify it...but I digress. This particular item is decent, although the permanent attachment of the tac ties is annoying when you actually try to attach something else that also has its own permanently attached ties. The permanent attachment also means that there is space between the upper and lower sets that cannot be used (so much for infinite adjustability). There was also a quality issue, because the spacing between those molle strips wasn't quite right on mine, meaning more space between the item and the attachment due to them having to fold up a bit to get the tie through the slots. FYI, there are molle strips on both sides that are exactly the same. Despite these small snags, it does the job I want it to do, with shell and choke cases on the one side and a side-by-side shotgun inside, although it is quite tight, for obvious reasons. I think an over/under would fit better, and I'm sure a single-barrel pump or semi-automatic would be fine. It's the right length for the usual barrel lengths, and actually works really well with my shorter barrels due to the triggers being covered when it is fully sheathed. This is not intended for you guys with extra long duck guns, and the balance would probably be a bit weird, but I doubt you actually want this in the first place. Since I don't have a sling, this does the job a sling would do, and carries relatively well, although you may want to add a pad, since the sling part is just 1" wide nylon without any padding. The bottom wants to come forward a bit, but it doesn't go so far as to be a problem, and stays pretty much right up against your back when worn across the body (so if you're not planning on attaching it to a pack, half of that molle is wasted...see above disdain). Without the gun in place, however, it readily folds in that annoying unusable middle ground, preventing easy gun replacement and completely messing up the balance and placement.
This scabbard is a great deal for the money. It will also work well for lever-guns even though it appears to best fit 18" - 20" defensive shotguns. It does fit the Shockwave and Tac-14 PGOs, however it will totally encompass the gun with just a little of the birds-head grip sticking out. This would impede draw if you were intending to carry it on your back, but I prefer this to other scabbards that leave the trigger exposed. There are a few nits to pick, but I won't remove a star at this price. This first is that the carry strap isn't padded, so it will probably get tiresome after humping it around for any extended period. However, you can always change that. The second nit is the molle straps are sewn in. I'm making an assumption that decision was for more security when attaching the scabbard to another pack. However, this could limit the flexibility of adding attachments to the scabbard. I don't know enough about longevity, but it appears very well made. Time will tell.
First, the pros: the fit for my Mossberg 500 pump with 18.5" barrel was perfect. The overall design and quality is, with one serious exception, excellent. cons: There is a metal grommet on one side, near the bottom...not sure why it's there, since at 2-3 inches above the bottom it can't be drainage, and there isn't a need for air circulation, since it's an open top scabbard...and none of my other scabbards, (also for an 18.5 inch barrels), have any grommets. It seems that in the manufacturing process, the two halves of the grommet were not securely pressed together, and have separated. allowing the entire lower-inside lining to come loose. The first scabbard I bought, I could hear metal-on-metal as I slid my shotgun in and out. After having repeated the motion a couple of times, I took a close look at the end of my barrel, and noticed scratches in the parkerizing where it was in contact with the inner half of the grommet. Amazon, thankfully, took it back without hesitation, and sent me another. After I took it out of the box, I could see the same problem, even through the clear plastic bag the scabbard was shipped in. I carefully removed the plastic, slipped my flashlight down inside the scabbard, peered through the grommet hole, and--yup, same problem....in fact, I could see the grey foam padding used as cushioning. I really wanted to love this scabbard, and as I mentioned above, except for the grommet issue, this is a terrific scabbard. If 5 Star Gear eliminates that unnecessary grommet, they will definitely have a 5 star product. Until then, inspect your scabbard closely.
Solid shotgun scabbard will probably buy another one
I bought this for my Remington 887 Nitro Tactical, and while it does fit inside the scabbard, it is a tight fit. It was so tight that I pulled apart the flimsy "D" ring that is attched to the scabbard, where the strap hooks onto. The scabbard itself seems to be of very solid construction and will probably last a very long time, but only after I replace the flimsy materiels. I will note that the Remington 887 Nitro Tactical is a little beefier than most shotguns, most likely due to the "Armorlokt" shell that encapsulates the weapon. If you have a regular Mossberg, Remington or similiar 18-20" shotgun, it should work very well.
Really like this scabbard for the price, Works well and the attached flashlight on the shotgun fits also. Would be nice if the top opened a little wider but not a big deal
It fits great on my military pack. Many was too attach and attach molly products.
Great scabbard for the price. The fabrics a little thin but taking in consideration the price it's five star. I use it for my shotgun and any carbine I have without an optic. Considering getting another one for my M1 carbine. Will accommodate a shotgun with a sling. It gets tight depending on how big your sling is but it functions properly.

5" Mossberg 500 with pistol grip like a glove
This fits a 18.5" Mossberg 500 with pistol grip like a glove. Nice snug fit but easy to pull out gun. Good quality for the money well padded and has all metal clasps and rings for the strap so it feels like the strap can handle the weight no problem. I would recommend this for any pump shotgun with a 12 to 20 inch barrel with 18.5" being a perfect fit.

Ten years ago, I would have said this was a product searching for a problem, but now shooting competitively with shotguns of various kinds, I love the idea. This Black Canyon Labs SGS3 Shotgun Safety-Selector uses an AR-style stroke to turn the safety on and off. As such, your thumb can always disengage (and anyone who shoots a cross-bolt safety will testify) engage the safety when dumping a shotgun under the clock. Only one drawback in my mind- it is a 90-degree throw for pistol grips.
The system is shotgun-model specific and is currently available for Remington (870/1100, etc) and Benelli shotguns. The kit is fully ambi with both right and left hand paddles. Rally Point Tactical has the SGS3 available for $125 for either model.
