For most cis-women, there's never a point in time when you aren't worrying about your breasts .
When you're a kid, you're wondering when you're finally going to get them, and then when they inevitability do arrive, you spend god knows how much of your life fretting over them: they are either too small or too big , or the nipples are too hairy , or the nipples aren't the right color.
If there's something we can find wrong with our breasts we'll do it — that and a whole lot more! But when it comes to long nipples, that's an entirely different ballpark altogether.
This is a shame for a variety of reasons. Firstly, it sucks whenever anything gets in the way of keeping us from loving our bodies with our whole heart. Secondly, having breasts is a tremendous gift and represents everything the cis-female body can do. That's pretty special.
That's why it sucks to high heaven when people are taught that their breasts are "wrong" in any way.
Women with long nipples have definitely experienced this feeling firsthand. After all, when you're shown only one type of "ideal" breast and "ideal" nipple on TV, you're bound to develop a complex.
The fact of the matter is that there's nothing wrong with your long nipples.
This is so important that I almost just skipped writing an introduction to start off the post this way: your nipples are fine! Much in the way that every single snowflake that falls from the sky is different, so are your nipples.
Nipples come in a wonderful and varied array of color, size , texture, and much, much more. In fact, the only thing that can be guaranteed about your nipples is that they are going to be a little bit different from the nipples of the woman next to you. But please don't ask her because that's rude.
While the average woman's nipple is described as being the same height as a ladybug (try getting that image out of your head, I dare you), there is no hard and fast rule about how long a woman's nipple can actually be. So suck it, ladybugs!
Well, I should say some women just find out after going through puberty that their nipples are going to be a little longer than the average girl's. And I repeat, that is totally fine and normal!
Just as fine and normal as it is to have, say, inverted nipples . A totally normal, healthy thing.
There are certain things that can make your nipples longer, and both are a result, partly, of oxytocin. When a woman is breastfeeding, her nipples are going to get longer. This is, in part, is because when she is nursing her kiddo, it releases a gush of the feel-good chemical oxytocin into the brain.
One of the many things this neurochemical does is cause your nipples to become erect due to increased blood flow in the area (this also happens when you're turned on from some good nipple-based foreplay ).
When your nipples are erect, they look longer. After you've left an aroused state, it's more than likely that your nipples will return to their usual length. However, in breastfeeding, that's not always the case.
That's because, in addition to oxytocin hardening and lengthening nipples, you've also got, you know, a living child constantly sucking at the nipple. This is bound to change the shape and length of your nipples, but it's still also totally normal.
While breasts can look all kinds of different ways and be no cause for alarm, there are a couple of things that you should always be mindful of when it comes to the health of your breasts (long nipple-having or not).
First and foremost, you should always, always, always conduct a monthly breast examination . You can do it in the shower.
If you don't know how to check for lumps or other abnormalities on your own, ask your doctor.
In addition to your monthly breast exam, you should watch your breasts for major changes, and I'm not talking about hormonal soreness that comes every month.
While it might seem scary, most of the time it's just a check to be on the safe side. When it comes to your breast health, it's definitely better to be safe than sorry.

You probably know that breasts come in all different sizes and colors , but did you know the same goes for nipples? Actually, there are eight different kinds of nipples, says Dr. Tsippora Shainhouse, M.D. , a board-certified dermatologist and pediatrician. All of them are normal, and it's certainly possible to have a combination of two or more types (like protruding and bumpy or flat and hairy). And maybe, your nipples don't exactly fit into any of these categories. That's cool too! All nipples are normal, no matter how big, small, flat, or hairy they may be. Read on to learn more about what kind of nipples you have.
First, though, some definitions. You most likely have heard the terms nipple and areola, but there's a chance you don't know exactly what they mean. The two of them together make up what you might refer to as your nipple. The areola is the pigmented round area on your breast, while the nipple is the actual projection. Got it? OK, now let's dive in.
Protruding: This refers to nipples that are raised a few millimeters above the surface of the areola and point outwards. The nipple can harden and become more pronounced when cold or stimulated.
Flat: The entire nipple is flat and blends into the areola. The nipple can harden and become more pronounced when cold or stimulated.
Puffy: The entire areola and nipple area looks like a small, raised mound on top of the breast. The nipple can harden and become more pronounced when cold or stimulated.
Inverted: The nipple retracts inwards. Sometimes, you can use your fingers to bring it out, but sometimes, the muscles are too tight.
Unilateral inverted: One nipple is raised, the other is inverted. If this has always been the case, it's perfectly safe. If this is a new development, it might be a sign of breast cancer, so see your doctor immediately.
Bumpy: It's common to have bumps on the areola surrounding the nipple. These bumps are called Montgomery glands and can sometimes look like whiteheads. Sometimes, you might be able to squeeze dead skin cells out of them, but don't play with them. Every woman has the glands, but some people are bumpier than others.
Hairy: Stray, dark hairs growing out of the areola area are normal. They might be fine or coarse. It's safe to pluck them out with a tweezer. Every woman has hair follicles, but some people are hairier than others.
Supernumerary: Some people (like Harry Styles!) have extra, smaller nipples. They either look like flat moles or have a fully-formed, raised bump.

AMANDA Holden has defended her "huge saucepan nipples" after Britain's Got Talent viewers complained about her daring dresses.
The judge isn't phased by the hundreds of groans to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom over her low-cut ensemble on the ITV talent show last week.
In the previous episode of BGT , Amanda's sexy outfit sent fans into a tizzy as they questioned whether the star had suffered a wardrobe malfunction .
Amanda laughed at the complaints and said: "I can see what people think, it had a like an underwire, you know when you have an underwire bikini or bra, the end of it it's like an upside down U isn't it. The end of it dug in.
"I was more insulted that people thought I had either huge saucepan nipples or nipples over my cleavage.
"I am seriously thinking my girls (boobs) need separate representation to me, because they are known on their own. They don't need me, they're going to go off and do Piers Morgan's Life Stories on their own next year!
The 49-year-old star is performing on the upcoming semi-final for the ITV talent show this weekend.
The judge is set to give a stunning performance of Sweeney Todd's Not While I'm Around from her new album Songs From My Heart, which has already sold out on Amazon following its release on Friday.
Filming was pre-recorded due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic , and Amanda is once again showing of her enviable figure.
Taking to her Instagram page, the TV favourite offered fans a glimpse at what to expect on the show.
In the photo, the blonde beauty is staring dreamily into the distance, her hair styled into soft curls.
Amanda is sitting on the stage and wearing a plunging dress with diamante detailing.
She captioned the post: "Can’t wait to perform on @bgt on Saturday night #SongsFromMyHeart".
The album has been a labour of love over several years, and sees her perform her favourite tracks from the West End stage, as well as a duet with Sheridan Smith.
Amanda admitted she's nervous about Saturday's performance, telling The Sun: “Releasing it feels like I’ve had a wobbly tooth that just won’t come out, and you go, ‘Let me just yank it out’.
“That’s how I’ve felt throughout lockdown. It’s been like, ‘Are we going to do it? Yes. We’re gonna do it in October’, and then you think October’s miles away and it has come round so quickly.
“I am just so nervous but so relieved that it’ll be out and we just can get on with promoting it and doing all the stuff that comes with it. But I can’t wait now, to be absolutely honest.”
