Your feed needs these sweaty queens!
In case it hasn’t occurred to you, the wellness industry is super whitewashed. (Want proof? Just visit your fave boutique studio’s website to see how many Black trainers work there.)
That means Black women are often excluded from the conversation around health, fitness, and nutrition—just another result of systemic racism. One place where I really notice this? My Instagram feed.
I follow my fair share of fitness influencers (mostly so I can save their IG workouts and *swear* I’ll do them later, even though…you know), but Black fitfluencers hardly ever come up on my Explore page or in my feed. And I knew I was missing out on some quality content as a result. So I decided to do what my Gen Z brain does best: an Instagram deep dive.
And lemme tell you, it did not disappoint. I came across tons of Black women sharing killer workout routines, fitness tips, and motivational advice that actually made me want to get up off the couch. Whether you’re seeking inspo for HIIT workouts, yoga, boxing, or body acceptance, there’s a Black expert for that. Here are just 12 of the many you should follow ASAP.
A post shared by Latoya Shauntay Snell (@iamlshauntay) on Jul 7, 2020 at 10:11am PDT
Latoya Shauntay Snell is an ultrarunner, meaning she’s run races longer than the typical 26.2-mile marathon (😱), so she can probs teach you a thing or two. But she’s also not afraid to talk about feeling like “glorious trash” after not training for a few months, which is some much-appreciated realness.
A post shared by Jeanette Jenkins (@msjeanettejenkins) on Jun 25, 2020 at 4:39am PDT
Um, Jeanette Jenkins has 29 years of personal training and health coaching experience, so I definitely trust her with my fitness needs. The celeb trainer (who has worked with Alicia Keys, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Mindy Kaling, BTW) posts easy-to-follow at-home workout videos straight to her feed. And most of them don’t even require equipment. Yay!

After watching a few of her home-workout vids, I can see why she’s racked up almost 2 million followers. Brittne Babe’s music choices are always fire, she gets creative with props you totally have at home, and the moves will leave you s-o-r-e.
A post shared by Chrissy King | Fitness Coach (@iamchrissyking) on Jul 7, 2020 at 2:14pm PDT
Chrissy gets that “living in a larger body does not mean you are ‘unhealthy’ nor does living in a smaller body mean you are ‘healthy,’” as she writes in this caption. As a fitness coach, she focuses on feeling good in your body rather than losing weight (praise be). She’s also super vocal about promoting equity in the wellness industry.
A post shared by L I T A L E W I S (@followthelita) on Jun 10, 2020 at 8:14am PDT

A post shared by Ashley Joi | CPT (@ashleyjoi) on Apr 5, 2020 at 4:53pm PDT
Expect motivational posts, exercise inspo, and lifestyle shots from Ashley. She’s a certified personal trainer and lead trainer for Chris Hemsworth’s wellness app, Centr (NBD).

A post shared by Elisabeth Akinwale (@eakinwale) on Jun 19, 2020 at 4:07pm PDT
Maybe strength training is more your jam—in which case, you’ll love Elisabeth’s account. The CrossFit athlete and trainer shares videos of her badass workouts along with the occasional tutorial if you’re brave enough to try ’em yourself (these are no joke!).
