You can consider this the antithesis of a lovey-dovey Valentine’s Day treat.
Icelandic legend Björk stunned fans this year with the release of her critically acclaimed album Vulnicura , a raw, heartbreaking break-up record that centers around her split with artist and longtime collaborator, Matthew Barney . The album’s release, which came early due to leaks , came just ahead of her forthcoming career retrospective at the MoMA (March 8–June 7). And so, to promote both at once, she’s just released a striking visual for one of the album’s highlights, “Black Lake.”
True to the feel of the song, the Andrew Thomas Huang -directed teaser clip is absolutely devastating, as we center in on a clearly emotional Björk lying naked in the ground, covered only by a few well-placed plants. As the camera centers in, a mystery fluid courses through her body before, well, spilling out from her insides and into the ground below, revealing a massive cavern underground…and that’s only the beginning.
