While we've seen strides being made for equal rights over the years, there is still progress to be made — even within the LGBTQ+ community itself. It may be 2022, but bisexuals still fall victim to erasure in society. According to GLAAD , bi-erasure is "a pervasive problem in which the existence or legitimacy of bisexuality (either in general or in regard to an individual) is questioned or denied outright." To some, bisexuality means being attracted to both men and women. But sexuality is a spectrum, which means things aren't always so black and white. Bisexuality can also mean you're attracted to more than one gender, period.
While bisexual people might take up a big part of the LGBTQ+ community, they still do not get seen as often as they should in media and entertainment. Take LGBTQ+ icon Lady Gaga, for example. The "Born This Way" singer has always been open about her bisexuality, but people constantly dismiss it. "I may not, to some people, be considered a part of this community, even though I like girls sometimes. I would never degrade the fight you have endured," Gaga said at a New York City Pride rally in 2019. She's one of the many celebrities who are representing the "B" in the LGBTQ+ community both in their personal and professional lives and because some of these A-listers came out on their (very) public platforms and have spoken about their experiences with sexuality, others have started coming to terms with their own identities and have become inspired to follow in their footsteps.
Here are some celebrities who have come out as bisexual over the years.
The Pitch Perfect and Senior Year star posted a photo with her girlfriend on Instagram in June 2022. "I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess 💗🌈💗 #loveislove," she captioned the post. Aside from this, Rebel hasn't explicitly commented on any labels regarding her sexuality.
Twilight and Happiest Season star Kristen Stewart opened up about her sexuality in an interview with The Guardian in 2017 . "You're not confused if you're bisexual," she told the outlet. "It's not confusing at all. For me, it's quite the opposite."
"I mean, [sexuality is] hard to talk about," she said. "I don’t want to seem presumptuous, because everyone has their own experience. The whole issue of sexuality is so grey. I'm just trying to acknowledge that fluidity, that greyness, which has always existed."
In an interview with Flaunt Magazine , Lili said that she didn't want to be accused of faking her bisexuality for attention, but she's known for years that she's bisexual.
"I knew full well that I was attracted to women from a young age," Lili told the magazine. "I felt that since I’ve exclusively been in hetero-normative relationships, it would be too easy for any outsider, especially the media, to vilify me and accuse me of faking it to get attention. That’s not something I wanted to deal with. But to my close friends, and those in my life, my bisexuality has been no secret."
Olivia celebrated the beginning of Pride 2021 by opening up about her sexuality. "I want to announce that I’m bisexual, and I’m now proud to be a part of the LGBTQ+ community," the TikTok star revealed in an interview with Teen Vogue. Olivia says that until recently, though, she didn't even think about bisexuality as an option for her. "I feel like it didn't really even occur to me until I moved out here [to Los Angeles] that being bisexual was even a possibility in my brain," she said. Then, she met UCLA soccer player, Kaila Novak, through TikTok and "became thoroughly obsessed with her."
Olivia also credits JoJo Siwa's decision to come out for inspiring her to do the same. "I saw that and thought 'Wow, that’s really amazing for young children now because she's such a big role model,'" Olivia said. "And she’s really become almost a role model for me to look up to as well."Now, Olivia wants to inspire others as well. "I want to let young girls know that it’s okay to not even know your sexuality until you’re older."
From the beginning of her career, pop culture icon Lady Gaga has been vocal about her bisexuality and support of the LGBTQ+ community. In 2009, she told British television host Jonathan Ross that her megahit "Poker Face" was inspired by her often "think[ing] about women" while "having sex with her boyfriend." However, in 2019, the star touched on bisexual exclusion during a visit to the historic Stonewall bar in New York City. "I may not, to some people, be considered a part of this community, even though I like girls sometimes. I would never degrade the fight you have endured," she said .
In a 2008 interview with GQ , Megan said she could "see herself in a relationship with a girl." Fast forward to 2021, when she confirmed her bisexuality with an Instagram post . "Putting the B in #LGBTQIA for over two decades," she captioned her selfie.
In 2012, Frank penned a letter on Tumblr that addressed his sexuality and revealed his first love was a man. His music is clad with romantic references to both men and women, but he has not explicitly stated he's bisexual. In an interview with GQ , he was asked about his sexuality, to which he responded "I'll respectfully say that life is dynamic and comes along with dynamic experiences, and the same sentiment that I have towards genres of music, I have towards a lot of labels and boxes."
The Eternals ' Angelina Jolie may have had a famous relationship with actor Brad Pitt, but she told OK Magazine " I have loved women in the past and slept with them. I think if you love and want to pleasure a woman, particularly if you are a woman yourself, then certainly you know how to do things a certain way."
In an open letter that was posted on Billboard , the former Fifth Harmony member and popstar revealed that she was bisexual while addressing Trump and his supporters. "I am a bisexual Cuban-American woman and I am so proud of it," she wrote. "I am proud to be part of a community that only projects love and education and the support of one another."
Halsey has been pretty open about her bisexuality since before they became a breakout star on the music scene. They continue to fight for bisexual representation in music and even released several songs about being bisexual on their albums, including a duet with Lauren Jauregui called "Strangers."
The Love, Simon star came out on Instagram in 2017 . " I like to change my hair, I like to take risks with how I dress, I like girls, & I like guys (yes), I like growing, I like learning, I like who I am and I really like who I'm becoming," he wrote in his caption.
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Encanto star has been open about her bisexuality and even worked with the writers of B99 to help her tell her character Rosa’s coming out story.
"[Dan Goor] called me and said, 'I just want to be very sensitive about this, and I really want to hear your honest answer. Would you be open to us exploring a story where Rosa comes out as bisexual?' and I was like, 'Absolutely. Yes. I’m so excited! Yes! Yes! Yes!,'" she told Vulture .
In 2019, the TikTok star posted a video with the caption, "Since I get this question about a billion times every time I go on live, yes, I’m bi 🤪." According to her YouTube channel , she's been dating her girlfriend, Soph Mosca since 2020.
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter who's written hits for Ariana Grande, Fifth Harmony, and Janelle Monae came out on Twitter in 2018. She told Gay Times , " I literally fell in love with a girl And I had a boyfriend at the time, and then we broke up...There were a lot of things that I was personally going through that I didn’t speak about. But at the time, my boyfriend was still claiming that he was still my boyfriend after we’d broken up, and I decided I was really upset about it, and going through a lot emotionally, so I decided to tweet it."
The Moana and Crush star had the best response when a fan asked her if she liked girls on Twitter. The actress and singer replied by linking the fan to a recent TikTok video where she mimes the lyrics, "No, I'm bi."
In 2019, Willow came out as bisexual to her mom and grandmother on an episode of their show, Red Table Talk. "I love men and women equally and so I would definitely want one man, one woman. I feel like I could be polyfidelitous with those two people," Willow said , explaining that she's also polyamorous. "I focus a lot on the emotional connection and I feel like if I were to find two people of different genders that I really connected with and we had a romantic and sexual connection, I don’t feel like I would feel the need to try to go find more."
In a 2019 interview with The Advocate , Pretty Little Liars alum Tyler Blackburn revealed that he is bisexual.
"I'm queer. I've identified as bisexual since [I was] a teenager," he said. "I just want to feel powerful in my own skin, and my own mind, and in my own heart."
The Stranger Things and Sierra Burgess is a Loser star came out on Twitter in 2017, "I don’t normally do this, but I figure now is as good a time as any to get personal. I’ve only just recently come out as bisexual to my family and friends."
The gendefluid Younger star came out as bisexual in an interview with Vulture , back in 2016 .
"The more I’m having these conversations, the more comfortable I am identifying as bisexual," they said. "I’ve been so hesitant about using the word for so long, because it does have a negative connotation in our generation. People fought for so long for that ‘B’ in LGBT, and I refuse to be the person that’s going to throw that away because I think I have a more colorful word."
After she was spotted kissing a woman in 2016, fans couldn't help but ask the actress if she is bi. "Yes," she replied . Since then, she has been pretty open about her bisexuality and was also in a polyamorous relationship with Mod Sun and Tana Mongeau, until she broke off both relationships .
However, during a Good Morning America interview in 2019, she revealed she's pansexual . "Doesn't have to be a girl, or a guy, or you know, a he, a she, a this, or that," Bella said. "It's literally, you like personality, like you just like a being."
At the end of 2013, YouTuber Tré Melvin shared his New Year’s resolution with his fans: "My New Year’s resolution is to fully, utterly, and wholeheartedly be myself from this day forth," Tré told his millions of subscribers. “And I can’t seem to achieve this resolution without unmasking myself. I am bisexual."
He goes on to say how his news "shouldn’t be a big f*cking deal, but unfortunately, society makes it a big f*cking deal."
His video has seemingly since been deleted, but another YouTube account reuploaded it .

I Discovered I Was Bisexual At Girl Scout Camp
By heatherbarmore — Written on Apr 03, 2020
The first time I kissed a girl was at Girl Scout camp when I was 14 years old. Girl Scout camp, of all places! She was a short, red-haired girl named Bailey who I pecked on the lips in a moment of teenage experimentation.
I kissed her again in the parking lot in front of my rather prudish mother who stood by, ready to load me up into our minivan. In my periphery I could see her eyes widen and her face scrunch in disgust. “Let’s go,” she said curtly.
After kissing Bailey, I returned home and started my sophomore year of high school. I didn’t head through the doors of my small town school and proudly proclaim that I was contemplating my sexuality and possibly being a lesbian. A kiss was just a kiss, and a peck was my version of "we’ll see."
Although my parents were sexual beings by my estimations — I once found more condoms than any man could possibly need in a dish on my father’s dresser — they never spoke of the big "it" out loud. Since the Internet came of age, just as I did, instead of having "the talk" with my parents, I learned about sex via the World Wide Web. Thanks to Ask Jeeves (remember Ask Jeeves?), I learned about orgasms and the purpose of a clitoris.
From September to June, I admired (and attempted to approach) the boys in my grade and was quickly rebuffed. It seemed I wasn’t good enough, pretty enough, popular enough for them. I simply wasn’t enough at all.
Come July, I officially switched to the other team, so to speak. Nothing serious, mind you, just casual flirtation and a willingness to be open and affectionate with women.
But it was Girl Scout camp where my curiosity about women, bisexuality, and sexual orientation first piqued. It wasn’t simply the place I learned to tie a rope, build a fire, kayak and sail; it was where I learned to appreciate women as leaders.
I envied these women because they were able to be themselves and — as it seemed from my teenage vantage point — had been able to forge a path of acceptance in themselves and those around them. The women I met were creative, talented, and kind. They often wore their heart on their sleeves.
These weren't the girls I was forced to be around in my high school for nine months of the year — these were women. Real women. They weren’t mean or haughty, but adventurous and clever. These were the type of women I hoped to become.
Eventually, during my junior year of high school, I moved past personality traits and truly began to notice the female form of my fellow staffers, the way a woman’s body moved with hips and curves. At the time, I was a breast girl. An enthusiast, if you will, so I admired (clandestinely) the chests of those around me to compare and contrast to what I had to offer.
I developed a lesbian crush on my friend Lindsay, but she was dating a fellow counselor. On one of our breaks, I brought Lindsay home with me before heading back to camp. My father was courteous, but later referred to her as "that dyke." It was then I realized that crushing on a woman and holding hands in the woods was as far as it could ever go.
Eleven years later, I stood in the bathroom of my apartment. My girlfriend at the time, Heidi, was taking a bath. I knew she had been dying for one, so I surprised her with a Lush bath bomb. I swirled the water around with my hand and asked how she liked it before receiving a kiss. Not a peck, not experimentation, but a full-on plant where she grabbed my face with her wet hands.
I got up from the edge of the tub and
