Наш корреспондент прошел демонстрационную версию целиком и взял интервью у Кена Левина — творческого директора студии Irrational Games. История Букера Девитта начинается не в летающем городе Колумбия, который мы все уже видели на скриншотах, а близ одиноко возвышающегося над морем маяка, здорово смахивающего на тот самый маяк из начальных кадров первого Bioshock. Цель Букера — разыскать и доставить таинственному заказчику девочку по имени Элизабет. Только так он сможет рассчитаться со старыми долгами.
Колумбия — полная противоположность Восторгу из первых двух частей. Подводный город выглядел зловеще и чуждо, здесь же просторные белокаменные кварталы парят в облаках, а надо всем высится огромная золотая статуя ангела, распростершего крылья. Ангельски прекрасное зрелище. Но, хотя Колумбия отличается от Восторга, каким его застали мы, она во многом похожа на него до его упадка.
В Bioshock Infinite очень много отсылок к религии. В Колумбии поклоняются пророку Комстоку — некогда американскому патриоту, который выстроил в небе «землю обетованную» и поставил себя почти наравне с богом. Упоминания о нем повсеместны — в витражах, в статуях, в хоре, в едва слышимой фортепианной музыке, в устрашающих строках вроде « семя пророка воссядет на престоле и в огне утопит горы человеков ».
Игрок постепенно обрастает небольшим арсеналом улучшаемого оружия: пистолет, пулемет, ружье, карабин, винтовка, снайперская винтовка, гранатомет, реактивный гранатомет... Одновременно можно носить два вида оружия. Кроме того, повсюду попадаются эликсиры (местный эквивалент плазмидов), часто — на трупах боссов. Так, ужасная «Воронья стая» призывает воронье, заклевывающее противника до смерти. А простой пирокинез выглядит так, что невольно начинают чесаться руки.
Вскоре после начала игры Букер получает «небесный крюк» — устройство для путешествия по воздушным рельсам Колумбии. Просто прицельтесь в эти рельсы, подпрыгните — и вас к ним притянет. Крюк можно использовать и как оружие ближнего боя, чтобы забить противника до смерти. Если зажать «рукопашный бой», Букер расправится с врагом изуверски: проломит крюком голову или сломает шею. Такие убийства плохо вписываются в философско-раздумчивый дух основного сюжета, но, как выясняется, они вполне в духе Букера.
Интересен подход создателей к противникам. Irrational взамен традиционных схваток с боссами запустила в игру ряд мини-боссов, которые со временем становятся рядовыми противниками. Сложность боев постоянно нарастает, но и Букер становится сильнее — ролевой элемент по-прежнему имеет место быть.
Главное отличие от System Shock 2 и Bioshock — здесь далеко не все будут стремиться вас убить. Небесный город живет своей жизнью, его обитатели готовы общаться с Букером и не бросаются на него с оружием, едва завидев. Они живут и дают жить другим.

Countering "going to do it anyway."

I recently completed a graduate course in character education in which we were required to carry out an "action project." For my project I chose to use character-based sex education to try to instill in my younger sister and her friend the self-respect, self-control, and courage needed to lead moral, fulfilling, and healthy lives.
I wanted to inform my 14-year-old sister Kathy about something that I unfortunately just began to take seriously: abstinence. Sure, I have always known what the word meant, but I had never considered it an option for me, until recently. I felt that it was my responsibility to pass the philosophy of abstinence on to my sister because I know that she will not get it in the "going to do it anyway" program that is used at her high school. Also, she is a virgin (her friend is, too), so I wanted to show her how important it is to hold onto that purity.
I started these discussions when I accidentally overheard my sister Kathy, and her friend, Michelle, talking about a "slut" that one of their friends was dating. I asked them why they considered her a slut, and Michelle responded: "She has slept with at least eight guys already, and she is easy." I asked them to think about why this girl is so promiscuous. Kathy said, "She's trying to keep a boyfriend." They assumed that having sex was a way of holding onto a boyfriend and showing love for one another. They also assumed that condoms would protect them from disease and pregnancy and that having sex had no implications for their future adult lives. My goal was to dispel all these myths.
We first tackled the issue of sex as "showing love" or "keeping a boyfriend." I used the girl they were talking about as an example of how boyfriends come and go whether girls have intercourse with them or not. We also talked about girls' feelings when they are rejected after giving part of themselves to another person. I then told them about my having pre-marital sex, and how I wished these relationships had never occurred and that the only true way to find out if a guy loves you is to make him wait until marriage.

We talked about the self-respect and courage involved in leading sexually abstinent lives until marriage. These two young girls developed a new awareness of how truly loving relationships and commitments develop and are sustained. Their awareness was evident in their response to my disclosing that I recently told my boyfriend that I wanted to abstain from sex from now on and he said he could not do this. I asked Kathy and Michelle if they thought the relationship was worth continuing, and they both said, "No, he does not love you if he won't wait for you." I was proud of their answer.
I gave real-life examples of teens who became pregnant or who contracted STDs even with the use of condoms; one of those persons was a close friend of mine.
I also wanted to make these girls aware of the physical dangers of pre-marital sex. I gave real-life examples of teens who became pregnant or who contracted STDs even with the use of condoms; one of those persons was a close friend of mine. They were shocked to find out that this friend contracted herpes from sexual intercourse while using a condom. We considered the possible implications of such diseases: the inability to conceive a baby, passing on a sexual disease to your spouse, and transmitting a disease to your baby in the womb or during delivery.
Besides being more confident in their virginity, Kathy and Michelle have now set the personal goal of saving sex for marriage. They also no longer pick apart boys or girls who are sexually active by calling them "sluts" or "pimps" but instead focus on the deeper consequences of such behaviors and on what promiscuous girls and boys must be lacking in their lives.
My sister and Michelle have recently asked two of their friends to join us in our discussions. I've also shared my project with the parents of these girls. These parents are beginning to realize that abstinence-based sex education is more beneficial than the model now used at their daughters' high school.

These are the 'too-short' shorts that caused administrators at a Montreal high school to kick student Lindsey Stocker off campus.
Stocker donned the jean shorts To Beaconsfield high school on the first hot day of the season, and was temporarily suspended when she refused to change.
The grade 11 girl is seen wearing the controversial shorts for the first time, in pictures published by the Montreal Gazette .

Stocker unwittingly started a revolution by refusing to change out of a pair of shorts, when she was told they were not appropriate for school on May 21.
She refused, and instead printed a poster that she plastered over the school, questioning why girls' bodies were the focus of the rules instead of boys' behavior.
During third period on that day, two vice principals entered her classroom and told everyone to stand up so their outfits could be inspected .
'And when they came to me after about two rows of looking they stopped and told me my shorts were too short and I had to change,' Stocker told the National Post .

'They continued to tell me would be suspended if I didn't start following the rules. When I told them I didn't understand why I had to change they told me that it doesn't matter - I don't have to understand the rules, I just have to comply by them.'
Stocker felt singled out and humiliated in front of her class, but what concerned her more was a set of rules that focused on girls' bodies rather than boys' behavior.
So instead of complying with the rules, she went and printed up about 20 posters and stuck them up all over the school.
The posters read, 'Don't humiliate her because she's wearing shorts. It's hot outside. Instead of shaming girls for their bodies, teach boys that girls are not sexual objects.'

The posters were taken down by teachers after about 10 minutes, but they live on in social media.
Stocker also has won the support and admiration of other girls at school.
'Most people are agreeing with her, women shouldn’t have to cover themselves up completely because we shouldn’t be viewed as sexual objects,' student Sierra Drolet told CJAD News .
Lauren Paquay, 15, showed up wearing shorts in support of Stocker. She said the dress code verification - making girls stand up with their arms by their sides to ensure their outfits are fingertip length - is 'humiliating.'

'People are being judged for the way they dress, they have to change because boys look at them. The boys should be the ones who have to learn to treat women better and look at them in a different light,' she told CBC .
The chairperson of the Lester B Pearson School Board told CJAD News that Stocker has been suspended for not following the rules.
'The rules are there to help the children learn and prepare them for their future work places, high school is a job for them, they are there to learn to function in society, so it’s important that the rules be followed,' Susanne Stein Day says.
'Girls and boys have rules on dress codes; it is not a girl, boy thing, that’s not the point.'
'I was in violation for showing my legs,' she says. 'And that, point blank, is a problem for me.'
