Il a vendu 45 millions de disques à travers le monde avec ses petits camarades de Westlife, mais l'heure est venue pour Shane Fillan de se lancer en solo, un an après la séparation du groupe. Le chanteur propose cette semaine "Everything to Me", un titre pop frais qui pourrait en étonner certains.

Une page s'est tournée l'an dernier. Après quatorze ans de carrière, le groupe Westlife a décidé qu'il était temps de passer à autre chose , après un dernier best of et une tournée d'adieux. Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, Shane Filan et Nicky Byrne, qui étaient accompagnés à leurs débuts d'un cinquième membre, Brian McFadden, ont donc mis un point final à une aventure qui les a vus vendre plus de 45 millions de disques dans le monde et surtout, se hisser à quatorze reprises en pole position du Top Singles britannique, et notamment avec ses sept premiers singles consécutifs, un record historique. A l'exception de sa reprise du hit "Uptown Girl" de Billy Joel, le groupe n'a jamais percé en France, et n'a signé qu'un seul hit aux Etats-Unis avec son tout premier single "Swear It Again".
Mais il était évident que l'histoire n'était pas terminée et cette année, Shane Filan, qui signait la plupart des voix principales avec Mark Feehily, se lance sans surprise en solo. Une façon aussi pour le chanteur irlandais de 34 ans de renflouer son compte en banque, lui qui a dû se mettre en faillite l'an dernier, non pas à cause d'un train de vie scandaleux mais de la crise immobilière qui a frappé son pays, alors qu'il avait investi énormément d'argent dans la pierre. Interrogé par le Daily Mirror, Shane Filan avait ainsi expliqué qu'il était dans l'incapacité de rembourser ses dettes, qui s'élevaient à 18 millions de livres, soit 22 millions d'euros environ !
Aujourd'hui, Shane espère passer à autre chose en lançant sa carrière solo. Et au lieu de rester trop fidèle au son de Westlife et ses ballades épiques, le chanteur a opté pour un titre plus frais, plus folk, et propose le premier single "Everything to Me". Shane l'a co-écrit avec Nick Atkinson, qui a notamment travaillé avec Gabrielle Aplin, et c'est Martin Terefe qui a pris en charge la production. On lui doit notamment des titres de Jason Mraz , James Morrison ou encore du groupe Train, ce qui se ressent dès la première écoute.

C'est chez Capitol que sortira "Everything to Me", attendu sur les plateformes de téléchargement légal le 25 août prochain. Un véritable test de la popularité du chanteur, d'autant que Westlife était en perte de vitesse et considéré par certains comme assez ringard à la fin de sa carrière. D'ailleurs, c'est dans un premier temps un EP de quatre titres qui sera proposé, afin de prendre la température et de tester l'intérêt du public pour le projet de Shane. Son premier album, lui, est annoncé pour la fin de l'année, mais aucune date précise n'a été communiquée pour l'instant.
