I played both the 360 and Wii versions of this game when it was released a while back. Those having trouble pronouncing it, it's called, to the best of my knowledge, "owe-lee-chan-bara" or something similar. So what is this game about? In a nutshell, there are two half-sisters, Aya and Saki who both have something called "Baneful Blood" which is a curse that causes her to go on some sort of frenzy. The entire story centers around Saki (the youngest) who is more susceptible to the curse. The story follows Aya and Saki in a grand adventurer and you get more playable characters as you play the game. Oh yeah, there are zombies all over the place too. The story never really explains it fully, but yes, there are zombies everywhere. The controls in this game I considered somewhere between fair to good. I find I used Aya a lot since she has a sword and all that, but Saki is fun to play as well as she's more faster. On the Wii version, I found that using Saki is much more fun. You get other characters who uses guns, but that is rather poor since the gun play is rather mediocre. As you fight the game, you have to watch your berserk meter which is filled up as you fight zombies and their blood transfer on you. As you play the game, you can "clean" your sword of blood as well every once in a while. Eventually, if you get so much blood on you, you become berserk and your character changes color as well as some wild glow where you eventually lose all of your health and die. You can switch characters mid game, though. Overall, this game has no story that you'd want to get into. It's basically there but not really needed. As far as 360 vs Wii, I would say that it appears the Wii version is more polished. The two versions are of the same name, but they are two different games. Let me explain some points I've seen: 1) 360 version has somewhat of a better story telling. I say somewhat, but that doesn't mean it's any better. The Wii version usually shows a scrolling text story which is voiced by Aya in Japanese. You can skip it, since it's basically in the form of, "I must do this. I'll do it. I must do it! I can do it! For Saki!" is the basis of every story segments. 2) Wii version has better levels. 360 has a noticeably smaller level design but Wii's version has a somewhat larger level that seems to flow better. 3) I found the controls to be better with Wiimote. Specifically is the Cool combos. It's really easy to do on the Wii, but on 360 it requires somewhat of a practice. There are these blood cloud things around some levels that give you prizes which are easily obtained on the Wii due to the Wiimote due to the easier cool combo. To explain what a cool combo is, it's basically attacking at correctly why the controls vibrates. Eventually you'll do a cool combo but it's hard to do on the 360, at least for me. 4) DLC on 360! This isn't saying much but you get some extra costumes and so fort. It's a bit pricey, but I think worth something. The costumes aren't all that great, too. You get one additional character to play, as well. Just be sure to get the Full package, and not the individual down loads as I think you'll pay a little less getting it all in one DLC. 5) Both have horrid menu controls. The saving is rather confusing. The two are like RPGs where you can invest into certain attributes of your characters. So overall those are the main differences I see. If I had to pick one version to play, I'd pick the Wii just by a small amount. Also, you're probably wondering why the main character Aya is dressed up in a bikini. I don't know either. Apparently she does it to easily absorb the blood but there is really no reason for her to dress up like that as other characters don't. Overall it's there more for sex appeal but then again Aya isn't exactly the best looking character in the game unless you count for cgi cutscenes. I enjoyed this game. It's mindless fun and not exactly something to follow. I would say if you want it for the zombie, there are better choices to pick from. Zombies to Japan is more for silliness factor, and that is exactly what they are in this game. Just cannon fodder that you slice up. If you want a more serious zombie theme, I suggest looking elsewhere.

This is one of those games that is hard to categorize. It's mostly a game that represents the strangeness that gets released in Japan. How it ended up over here is beyond me. This is a game where you hack, slash, and gun your way through each level to progress. In addition at the end of every level you gain experience points that are applied to your characters, when you reach a level you are given points to distribute into various traits of your characters (Skill, Agility, Health, etc). Essentially it is something like a "lite" version of games like Dynasty Warriors and similar hack and slash titles. The game seems to be a bit more steep in scale than most I've played from such a genre. Case in point, I have played the entire game through Easy and reached around level 37 with the main character. When I played through Normal, I ran into difficulty killing the boss on Chapter 7. I guess this in turn forces you to go back and progress through earlier levels to gain a bit more experience/levels before trying again. This game is definitely not going to wow experienced players but for a casual gamer it is worth a romp or two. When I first bought the game I played it for a few Chapters then put it down. It wasn't until months later that I invested time in it and started into it again to finish through Easy. Through the Chapters you'll also unlock clothing, colors, and have options to purchase characters from Xbox Live. Are they worth it? Not really. It's fun for about 2 minutes. Add to the fact that the younger sister in this looks way to young to be viewing in her underwear, you're left feeling dirty attempting to dress her. Pretty much Lolicon fanserve to the pervs. This game's fun for a run through if but to experience it's entire storyline but only the hardcore gamer would stick around to continue opening additional stuff. Definitely rent before investing much into it. If they make a sequal to this, hopefully they'll improve the game mechanics and make it more playable.

It's a hack and slash with lots of "quirky japanese" style. It is a competent button masher, which I really like. I am sure there is much more depth to this game than I am seeing, but I am a casual gamer with very little interest in extremely technical game play. I got it for a good price and it has flashy visuals. Very enjoyable! J

So, if you like the box cover you will not care much about the game play. I enjoy the game but, I'm into the Japanese cause you never know quite what to expect except for huge Ahemm.... and well Bikini Ladies in this game. Their is oddly a dress up mode but, only after you play the game through. First two levels, easy as can be (for an intro) but, the third is where skill may be necessary for some even on normal. Really, if your into bouncing, jugglly, DD then buy it. Also, if you like killing the undead also a good cause there are plentiful in this game.

Terrible XBOX 360 graphics, silly plot and limited game play. That said, it's anime chicks slicing up zombies in bikinis because the more blood they get on them, the more powerful they become. Awesome! :-) This really should be a "it's so bad, it's good" cult game.

Brutally Under-rated, like playing Michonne in a Bikini

Platform For Display: Xbox 360 Verified Purchase

A "brutally" under-rated Zombie Fest milestone. Graphics: Very reminiscent of Resident Evil Code Name Veronica and better (characters and foes). Controls: Very similar in handling to Resident Evil games paired with the jump-in ally games like Street Fighter vs Capcom/Marvel. You definitely feel like you are controlling Challenge: Gradual at first, you will wonder what is going on this seems to good to be true, then at Chapter 3 you will have to fight of the effects of the Baleful Blood in addition to your cutting edge enemies. Whatever you do stay AWAY from Blood Mist (formless crimson cloud foe) or you will die a slow and painful death as you run around in a panic to find a statue of Virgin Mary to halt the effects. You do not heal in the game at all during a mission so work on your Street Fighter Ally Jump-in Combo in Chapter 1. Extras/Upgrades: Game features upgrades based on your body-count, life remaining, and time spent finishing your last level. You are then awarded a 3-6 upgrade units to spend on Skill, Vitality, Reach, and Power. If you only use one character then they will get all the upgrade slots to spend. Dress Up Mode: Now young men can also dress up their dolls in this feature which allows you to actually put on more clothes the two main heroines; not unlike a similar feature in Rumble Roses. First of course you must unlock the costumes by finishing levels and accumulating power orbs or a colour I can't recall. May offend some female players if there are any behind the controller. I like that your combos tend to be very visceral and devastating

Reiko fires her double-barreled two-shot shotgun repeatedly (several dozen times in a rapid succession) without reloading. There's also no recoil. This is due to Reiko in the Onechanbara game series having a shotgun which does not have to be reloaded.
This is probably another case of the description being better than the movie, but not for lack of trying. Chanbara Beauty is a video game adaptation of OneChanbara and another entry in the latest trend of Japanese over-the-top action/horror hybrids. If it's a win as a VG adaptation that has more to do with how low the likes of Uwe Boll and Paul WS Anderson have set the bar in the VG field than how inherently good Chanbara Beauty is. The plot is thinly stretched and silly, with various subplots filling in the backstory of the characters. Not that it matters really cos it's all about the bikini splatter here, right? Sure the movie delivers lots of katana splatter as dozens of zombie extras in crude makeup get hacked and slashed, but everything is so CGI heavy it takes some getting used to. The action scenes are reeking of video effects: CGI blood, gun flashes, smoke, fast forwards and all kinds of live action anime silly SFX. There's probably some wire work involved as well and the choreography and swordfighting is surprisingly decent. Chanbara Beauty is bursting apart in the seams but it's entertaining enough to warrant a view for exploitation hounds. If you can stomach the cheapo video SFX (which are becoming a staple in Japanese flicks lately), you'll probably have a good time, but not without a yawn or two in the middle. It plays like a less gory, less insane, less action-packed, less well-made version of The Machine Girl but if you want your fix of Japanese action/horror exploitation this one's OK I guess.
