Zac Brown and his namesake band have been Music City leaders since their 2005 debut, but in the last couple of years, Brown found a burbling passion for creating electronic music. Listeners first picked up on the new sonic road map on 2015’s genre-hopping Jekyll + Hyde , and it was just a year later that his side project, Sir Rosevelt, was announced . Featuring Niko Moon and Ben Simonetti, the group just released their self-titled debut LP , and together they wrote up a list of tunes that influenced the newly-dropped set. From electro bangers like Diplo’s “Get It Right” to adventurous, hip-hop-inflected country jams like Walker Hayes’ “You Broke Up With Me,” check out the trio’s list below. Sir Rosevelt, “Something ‘Bout You” “Our first single! There’s nothing more attractive than the one thing a person has — that ‘thing’ that you can’t quite put your finger on, but it makes them so addictive. We love mixing Southern instruments with beats! Oh, and we made this track with Timbaland!” Diplo, “Get It Right (Feat. MØ)” “The upright piano at the beginning sounds like someone is playing in a western saloon, it’s cool. The way Diplo took the vocal in the drop and distorts it to sound like an electric guitar is, well, badass.” Hailee Steinfeld, Alesso, “Let Me Go” ft. Florida Georgia Line “Sometimes the dopest tracks are the simplest. Alesso killed it with this one and when Hailee sings that hook you cannot help but sing along.” Khalid, “Young, Dumb & Broke” “This track is the soundtrack to our high school years. That perfect time where you have total freedom and no responsibility….and that voice, it’s magic.” Portugal. The Man, “Feel It Still” “This song is so cool. We’ve been a fan of them for years. It’s awesome to see them get the recognition they deserve with this song. Plus, it makes [us] want to dance like [we’re] in an Austin Powers movie.” Walker Hayes, “You Broke Up With Me” This guy is changing the way people think about country music. Music fans can listen to everything now and the way he mixes genres together is really original — hats off man! Bazzi, “Mine” Love how the beat stops and starts. [You want to] play the steering wheel like the drums when this comes on in the car. Chris Stapleton, “Millionaire” Chris is one of the best songwriters out right now and this song is one of many examples why. One word to describe this tune: timeless. Naughty Boy, “One Chance to Dance” ft. Joe Jonas I love when people use unconventional pop sounds in a pop song. The way Naughty Boy uses that sitar as the hook is so fresh. View comments
