PSA: You should be paying for your porn! Thank you!
Wait a hot minute. Porn? And ethics? There’s an ethical way for me to watch a woman be turned into a human chandelier by a harness that’s considered ethically above board? Enter: Ethical porn . Because we all need this in our lives. This (kind of) newly emerging market strips away the stuff that’s wrong with pornography (like the fetishizing of people of color, the endless punish f*cking of women, and the lack of lube ) all while allowing it to retain all its amazing hotness. You might be making smut (and society might hate you for it), but that doesn’t mean you don’t have a responsibility to offer fair wages to actors and to depict sex acts that center around female (trans, non-binary, and all genders) pleasure.
“Producers who create ‘ethical porn’ focus on fair wages, bodily autonomy, communication, and consent,” explains Sarah Melancon, PhD , a sociologist, clinical sexologist, and resident expert at The Sex Toy Collective.
Now, you may have heard the term “feminist porn” before. This is often used interchangeably with ethical porn. However, Lilly Sparks , founder & CEO of the ethical porn site Afterglow , says that while there’s a lot of overlap, there are differences. “To some people, feminist porn is porn that centers the pleasure of women and gender minorities; to other people, feminist porn is porn that portrays a diversity of body types, genders, sex acts, and abilities; and to other people, porn is not feminist unless performers are paid fairly and treated with respect.” Basically, there are a lot of different definitions.
So how can you consume ethical porn? By paying for it! “Money is needed to pay performers, crew, post-production, and all freelance collaborators fairly, and to ensure that sex work is done in a safe environment,” says Erika Lust , feminist porn producer and founder of Erika Lust Films. “I believe we should be responsible consumers and support the people that create the entertainment we enjoy.”
Yes, this does mean leaving behind the (incredibly shitty) free tube sites. “It is important we pay for any products or services we consume,” says Melancon . “Stealing is immoral, unethical, and illegal—even (I’d argue especially) when that product or service involves sex.”
With all this in mind, we would love to help you on your ethical smut journey. We’ve collected the 20 best ethical porn films that money can buy. Get after it.
Headed by performer Vex Ashley, Four Chambers, once an art project, now exists as its own independent, indie porn production company. The films exist in a space somewhere between porn, art, dreamscape, and fantasy. Supplicant is a meditation on religion, power, and sex. That is, “the act of giving up control; devotion and subjugation. Dual states of purity and sin. The ritual of transcendence. The undertones of tension that are imbued in repression and reverence,” writes Ashley.
If Alfred Hitchcock was a queer POC, the award-winning full-length thriller Snapshot might have been the result. Photographer and voyeur Charlie is lusting after a gorgeous older butch named Danny, but their doin' it is complicated when Charlie accidentally snaps a photo of a murderer and becomes his target. Also playing an uncredited starring role is a well-used Magic Wand.

This was Erika Lust’s first film and remains possibly her most amazing work ever. The plot has a bit of Taken vibes in the beginning, but in a good way. When Paisley's sister Maddie disappears in a foreign country, she decides to follow her to Spain. Arriving in Barcelona, she discovers her little sister isn’t the innocent girl she used to be anymore. To make things more complex, she winds up in a (very hot) tryst with Maddie's roommate Michael. Paisley's search leads her to the offices of none other than Erika Lust herself. She becomes an intern, and, well, things get dirty and we’re here for it.
Ok, so the plot is kinda non-existent in this one, and it’s basically just: couple has sex. On the other hand, maybe that's the best plot ever. It's joyful, passionate sex with lots of connection and laughter. Julia Roca has a beautiful, real-seeming orgasm and it seems super believable because, well, take a look at Sylvan Garcia's truly stellar uncut dick.

This movie is Fifty Shades —handcuffs and a BDSM contract-wielding rich guy included—but with more graphic sex and with less questionable ethics. There's plot—Emma's attempting to deny her desires and be “normal"—but she's obviously going to be all-in with the submissive thing. I mean, it's right there in the title. The Canadian Feminist Porn Awards gave the movie the award for “steamiest romantic movie.”

Performers (and real-life couple!) Daniela Escalona and Manuel Melinkoff play a chocolatier and cacao supplier in Venezuela who have had an ongoing, burning attraction, but have never taken it further than their own personal fantasies. Luckily for us viewers, after assistance from an Amazonian aphrodisiac concoction, they find themselves overpowered by desire and chocolate covered sex ensues. The passion in this film is pure fire.

On Lustery, real couples share their sex videos to capture the realness and intimacy of homemade/amateur porn, but with higher ethical and aesthetic standards than the stuff you get on free tube sites. Parisians James and Luna are sexy and gorgeous, as we know is required by French law, and filmed themselves in their bedroom having all kinds of deliciously GGG (good, giving, game) sex. Need more convincing? This film includes swoony POV from Luna's chest of James' mouth between her legs.

Okay, so we know we said movies , but we would truly be doing you a disservice by not including this incredibly amazing, super-hot five-minute short. In it, the couple sensually touches, caresses, and makes out. There are major Dom/sub vibes. This is the only time we’ll recommend something without sex and unpaid on this list but trust us: It belongs here. It originally appeared at legendary writer, podcaster, and sex positive icon Dan Savage’s Hump Film Festival, which might just make this the ethical and sexiest porn(ish) out there.
Performers Ana Foxxx and Damon Dice have worked in porn scenes together before, but those scenes were never about what the actors themselves were into. It is a job, after all. In Always Got Your Back , the actors finally have a chance to freely enjoy each other the way they'd like. They’re best friends IRL and their erotic connection is palpable before they even touch each other.

This oldie-but-goodie is one you really don’t want to miss. Director and writer Tristan Taormino’s Chemistry is the first in a series of full-length "behind the scenes" movies for Vivid Entertainment where the performers choose who they have sex with, what acts they engage in, where, and when. Volume 1 is basically a reel of all the best moments taken from these erotic clips. It’s so hot, the series won Best Gonzo Release at the AVN awards in 2007.
The idea that sometimes in a relationship you need to shake things up a bit leads to a couple inviting a third into their bed. The trio spends a passionate afternoon together, but unlike typical MMF porn, it's not just two guys bonin' a girl and pretending the other dude isn't there. Director and Bright Desire curator Ms. Naughty says of her also-amazing (it's all amazing, really) Since You Asked So Nicely that it “queers straight sex and shows that pleasure can be attained in multiple ways, no matter how you identify,” and that's true of all her work. Ms. Naughty makes pornography that re-shapes what porn looks like and redefines what it even is.

The porn website and community project MakeLoveNotPorn is all about “celebrating and showcasing #realworldsex in all its messy, awkward, humanness” via member-submitted videos. In Andrelynn , a married couple shares a playful, unhurried session. It's not over-the-top. She uses a bullet vibe to start herself up, he cums very fast at first, but they navigate it sweetly and both get a few orgasms in the deal. MLNP is all about intimate, everyday sex—and that's what makes it groundbreaking. There are no scripts, no faking, just real pleasure.

Performers Nikki Hearts and Leigh Raven tell viewers how they fell in love and got married. Yes, these folks are IRL partners and we are here for it. Years later, they're still very much in love and give us a glimpse of the intense erotic connection between them in this very sensual (and super dirty) erotic film. If this isn’t #CoupleGoals, we honestly don’t know what is.

This female-lead erotic movie is a true work of art. And yes, there is a lot of really nasty, amazing sex. The femme fatale lead is a secret lustful seductress hiding in plain sight behind the unassuming demeanor of a traveling businesswoman. Her unsuspecting ~victim~ turns out to be very, very (very, very) willing to get down and dirty.
There’s no reason we should only just enjoy the female form when there are so many gorgeous male bodies to enjoy, too. This beautiful film soaks up the sensual tempo that the hot rays of sun bring as we watch this gorgeous body become aroused before our eyes. Enjoying a quiet moment, the lead character, Sylvan, leans back and finds the pleasure of self-love. His girlfriend sees how ~hot he is~ and eventually comes over to join him.

Watch through a cracked door while Avery gives her male partner instructions on how to pleasure her. This is a very female-dominant scene and feels incredibly empowering. Afterglow specializes in content that is both well-made and ethical. If there was ever a smut film that could actually teach you something about how to have good IRL sex, it’s this one. You’re going to love it.

Actor Quinton James begins by telling viewers a story about a time he showed up sick with food poisoning to set, and his co-star, Blake Blossom did everything in her power to help him feel better. He never forgot her kindness, and in Blake and Quinton, we get to see him give some very hot payback for all that love. There really is something so mesmerizing about the way Blake looks at Quinton. This is a must-watch.

Anyone who’s ever been curious about the sex lives of throuples will adore this erotic series from Erika Lust. Three is a dramatic (and very sexy) five-part adult series that explores the joys and conflicts that come with ethical non-monogamy. This throuple’s love story is a realistic exploration of human sexuality, desire, and ENM dynamics.

If you want to watch a man jerking off, he may as well be poolside at a sprawling mountaintop estate in Spain, with two beers beside him chilling in ice. Joel is also gorgeous and super well-hung. Even if you don't want to watch a beautiful man stroking himself, this one's kinda worth it for the real estate and scenery alone. (For less scenic, but still good stroking, see also: Hard Memories .)
$13/month, $7/weekly trial at FrolicMe.com
Starring Billie O’Hara, this film follows our protagonist onto her adventurous holiday where she is off to explore her sexual horizons. There’s something about being on vacation that can really open up a desire to get out and get freaky. This beautifully-shot film is erotic, fun, and the acting is absolutely amazing.

Sometimes it seems like if you’ve seen one porno, you’ve seen ‘em all. You’ve got two people (or three, or four, or, heck, sometimes there are too many to count) in familiar situations — that end with unfamiliar results. Think of the classic porn plots: There's the teacher reprimanding the student — that ends in boning. There's the skilled masseur relaxing the stressed-out client — that ends in boning. There's the helpful pizza-delivery guy delivering some hot pie to the starving customers — that ends in boning, too.
There a number of these plots and scenarios that everyone seems to know — and depending on what you're into and your capacity to suspend your disbelief, some are funny, some are sexy and some are just plain ridiculous. But regardless of the fact that there’s so much redundancy in porn, we still can’t help but smile every time that feeling of déja vu washes over us — which directly precedes the, uh, other things that wash over porn enthusiasts.
Because we’re all so well-versed in the set-up, we decided to rank 21 classic porno scenarios that we’re all too familiar with from best (somewhat plausible/pretty awesome) to worst (totally implausible/terrible idea). We're excluding stuff like straight up gangbangs with huge numbers of dudes or famous porn stars banging each other for no reason and instead focusing on the classic porn plots that require crummy acting and forced dialogue, just because.
Basic plot: A bunch of babely women do yoga together. Then... they have sex. And possibly include a male instructor.
Yoga is sort of like the modern version of an all-women's sleepover — a mystic, mysterious land many guys fantasize about because they have no idea how non-sexual it is actually is. Surprisingly, real-life yoga is just a bunch of people stretching and sweating.
But has a one-on-one yoga session between a participant and an instructor ever turned sexy? Almost definitely. You put two humans wearing minimal clothing in close contact with each other enough times and see what happens. We're animals, I tell ya!
Basic plot: A rich, powerful boss has a hot secretary. Then... they have sex.
This is really not a very surprising one, considering how probably every dude with that kind of power has at least considered sleeping with his secretary before — but can't, because, you know, professional ethics, workplace harassment, and also if things go south, this would be a nightmare for everyone involved.
How realistic is it? Probably plenty realistic, though we can't in good faith recommend anyone try it. Dating a coworker is complicated enough; hooking up with a superior or subordinate is a recipe for a whole mess of trouble.
Basic plot: Woman finds guy spying on her... then they have sex.
This classic trope takes voyeurism to a whole new level by suggesting that the woman being spied on by the naked dude in the bushes kinda doesn’t actually mind the breach of privacy. Props to the writers of this scenario for having the imagination to actually reward peeping toms with blowjobs as opposed to a court date.
At the same time, this classic storyline also suggests that basically any woman left alone to her own devices will turn to an afternoon of fully nude masturbation while wearing high heels. Not only that, but she won’t even bother to throw on a bathrobe before calling out her perverted spy. That’s how women typically do it, right? Right??
Basic plot: A woman's friend convinces her to get it on, pretty much out of nowhere.
Whether you believe the whole “nature or nurture” argument, anyone would be hard pressed to believe that a person can suddenly flip the switch and “become gay” in a minute’s notice… but that’s what happens when two women are alone in a well-lit living room.
Whether it’s two girlfriends joking about their boyfriends or just a couple of gals having a couple of drinks, the awkward first kiss almost always gives way to a full-blown hot sex scene that leaves both women absolutely positive that they’ve chosen the correct path — or at least the correct path for that afternoon.
Basic plot: Burglar breaks in, makes sweet love to surprisingly aroused homeowner.
The number of reactions to a person breaking into your home are typically limited to the following: shock, fear, anger. To give one’s body to a person who usually means to steal your stuff and possibly kill you is a stretch… but that’s why we have the wonderful world of pornography.
Perhaps these are the words of a stingy man, but I certainly wouldn’t agree to any sort of copulation with someone who had the intent of robbing me blind. Not even a kiss, I tell ya! And frankly, if you're robbing someone's house and they offer to have sex with you, they're almost certainly just trying to distract you long enough for the cops to show up.
Basic plot: Couple hires a babysitter, and then either the dad or both
Sometimes, there are porn scenarios that draw inspiration from real life and focus on the wrongdoings of dads and nannies. We get it — she’s young, cute, and good with kids.
The biggest difference in the movies is how the wife reacts when she walks in on the two lust-birds. In real life, she’d cry and yell and threaten divorce, but in the movies she — more often than not — joins in and makes it a party. Why couldn’t people be that understanding in real life? Honestly, the world would be a better, more peaceful place.
Basic plot: Woman gets a massage, slowly becomes aroused, and ultimately has sex with her masseur.
The tale of the special massage parlor isn’t one that requires too much imagination to conceive. While so-called "happy ending" massage parlors are common in many places, typically they feature men pleasuring women.
However in this porn, it's the other way around: A lucky masseur (or possibly a masseur in possession of some mystical eroticizing massage oil) realizes that his hands have made the woman so relaxed that now she's horny. Considering she's already naked, getting to the boning portion is easy. But... something tells me this literally never happens.
