Actor Austin Butler said his body “started shutting down” just one day after filming wrapped for the forthcoming biopic, “Elvis.”
The 30-year-old actor — who plays Rock-‘n’-Roll legend, Elvis Presley — said he was rushed to the hospital in March 2021 where he spent a week bedridden, according to an interview with GQ .
Butler was diagnosed with a virus likened to appendicitis after immersing himself in the role so much that his body revolted.
“I woke up at four in the morning with excruciating pain,” Butler said. “My body just started shutting down the day after I finished Elvis.”
Butler stepped into the blue suede shoes of the iconic crooner for director Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming biopic .
In February, Warner Bros. dropped a full-length three-minute clip featuring Butler dressed as the musician — slick black hair, sunglasses, and his famous bedazzled white jumpsuit — alongside Olivia DeJonge starring as Presley’s wife Priscilla.
“Elvis” will chronicle Presley’s rise to fame and offer a glimpse into his working relationship with manager, Colonel Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks.
Yola Quartey, Luke Bracey, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Dacre Montgomery, and Kodi Smit-McPhee also star in the drama, which will sing itself into theaters on June 24.
Luhrmann co-wrote the script alongside Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce, and Jeremy Doner.
During a virtual press conference, Butler and Luhrmann discussed the film and the “Can’t Help Falling in Love” singer’s legacy.
“In this modern era, Elvis couldn’t have been a better canvas to explore America in the 50s, 60s, and 70s,” the Australian filmmaker said, according to The Wrap .
Butler chimed in and explained that the film’s appeal is “fundamentally getting to explore the humanity of somebody who has become the wallpaper of society.”
The “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” actor added that he had “huge shoes to fill” for the role.
Filming began in January 2020 in Australia, however, production was halted in March after Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson tested positive for COVID-19 . Shooting would later resume in September 2020.

Vladimir Putin reportedly has a secret granddaughter fathered by a ballet star with an unfortunate surname — one shared with the Russian leader’s archenemy, Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.
Putin’s youngest confirmed daughter, Katerina Tikhonova, has for years been secretly dating ex-Bavarian State Ballet director Igor Zelensky , according to a joint investigation by Important Stories and German newspaper Der Spiegel .
Flight records show they regularly traveled with a young girl, who was age 2 in late 2019, making her now 4 or 5 — and whose name corresponds with alleged dad Zelensky, the investigation said.
Tikhonova, 35, split from her first husband no later than 2017 — the same year she started regularly flying to Munich, sometimes several times a month, the outlets said.
Flight records show she traveled to the German city at least 50 times in the last two years — and even appeared to have made a permanent move there in late 2019, according to the investigation.
Such a move adds yet more humiliation for Putin, whom the investigation called the “grandfather of Zelensky’s daughter.”
Weeks after his invasion of Ukraine, Putin had called Russian citizens oriented to the West “not with Russia” — and even “national traitors,” the outlets noted.
A month later, Russian-born Zelensky, 52 — a one-time principal dancer for the New York City Ballet — announced his sudden exit from the Bavarian Ballet, a post he was supposed to keep until 2026.
He blamed “personal, family matters” that “require my full attention and time, which is incompatible with my activities as a ballet director in Munich.”
“Now my family needs my support,” he said, according to the outlets.
However, the managing director of the Bavarian State Opera, Serge Dorny, was tricked into talking to pranksters pretending to be Ukrainian officials — telling them that Zelensky was pushed out for refusing to publicly condemn Russia’s war on its neighbor.
“We talked with him [Zelensky] several times, and I made him come to the conclusion that he should leave the opera,” Dorny said, according to the outlets.
“He did not make this decision on his own. We had a conversation with him, and I led him to this conclusion.”
It is unclear where the alleged couple and their young daughter now live, the investigation said. There was no suggestion that Zelensky shared any ties with the Ukrainian leader with the same surname.
Zelensky’s ex-wife, former Mariinsky dancer Yana Serebriakova, refused to talk to reporters from Der Spiegel at the address her ex was still registered at in Munich, the outlet said.
Tikhonova and Zelensky also did not respond to messages, the report said.

Oliver Hudson doesn’t want a career in porn, but doesn’t mind dressing like an adult film star.
The “Nashville” actor hit the red carpet at the Fox Upfront in New York last week dressed in a burgundy Gucci suit paired with a palm tree-printed shirt, slicked-back long locks and a definite “pornstache.”
Hudson, 45, told Page Six Style he was going for a “70s sort of drug dealer, porn star look,” adding, “This mustache doesn’t really exist on me, but when I tried this suit on — by the way, it’s not mine, it’s a friend’s — [I thought,] I gotta put a mustache on to really complete this outfit. I like a costume.”
He told us he borrowed the fancy duds from none other than Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, as he felt nothing in his own closet fit the occasion.
“I’m not a suit guy,” he shared. “My suits are, like, from 1834; I don’t have suits. They’ve been eaten by moths. I pull out my suits and I’m like, ‘What the f—k is this? I cannot wear this.”
Continued Hudson, “So I called Adam and I said, ‘I know you must have suits.’ [He said,] ‘Yeah, come on over.’ He gave me this whole Gucci spread and I feel good.”
Asked whether he plans to keep the ’70s porn star vibes for his next red carpet outing, the “Scream Queens” star joked, “I would love to play this guy in a role, how about that?”
Hudson added that his outfit was “expressing the inner me,” quipping, “I think in a past life, I could have been this guy.”
The actor is currently promoting the second season of the drama series “The Cleaning Lady,” in which he plays an FBI agent.

The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” alum reunited with his three children after they returned home from their mom Kourtney Kardashian’s wedding abroad .
“I got my baby,” Disick, 38, captioned an Instagram Story shot of son Reign, 7, sleeping Tuesday.
The former “Flip It Like Disick” star went on to post a blurry selfie featuring son Mason, 12, and daughter Penelope, 9, writing, “Got my crew with me.”
Disick and Kardashian’s daughter then posed for more pics with her dad.
“My little girl is getting so big I can’t take it!” he added.
The Talentless creator, who dated the Poosh blogger from 2006 to 2015, was not invited to Kardashian and Travis Barker’s Portofino, Italy, nuptials Sunday.
He did, however, document his busy week via Instagram.
After posting private jet photos and telling his followers that his “next stop” was “the beach,” Disick took a trip to New York City. He visited Sapphire strip club and had a “little movie night” with room service while staying at Casa Cipriani.
Kardashian, for her part, gave many glimpses of Mason, Penelope and Reign during her wedding weekend.
The little ones notably did not attend the “Kardashians” star, 43, and 46-year-old Barker’s previous weddings — a fake one in Las Vegas in April and a legal courthouse ceremony in Santa Barbara, Calif., earlier this month.
