Fashion model Bella Hadid recently made headlines for posing nude in the most recent issue of "Vogue Paris." For the legendary French publication’s September issue, typically the largest and most important issue of the year for fashion publications, Hadid posed alongside fellow It-Girl and model Taylor Hill.
Hadid recently took to Instagram where she posted a nude photo from the shoot, mentioning that she was excited to have tried something a little different for this particular issue. She also cited the #freethenipple hashtag, a movement that has dominated social media channels for some time.
“#Freethenipple for our French Vogue cover with my brothers @mertalas & @macpiggott. Thank you for opening my eyes to a new art form I love you! Thank you for the opportunity and the experience …” Hadid stated in her recent post.
On the heels of Hadid’s major appearance on the cover for the major French fashion magazine, here are seven times Bella Hadid made headlines in 2016.
1. Posing Nude for the September Issue of Vogue Paris:
This was the model’s third September issue cover of 2016. Shot by photographer duo Mert & Marcus (respectively Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott), Hadid posed alongside fellow model and Victoria’s Secret Angel Taylor Hill for the photoshoot. Hadid is shown topless, nude or scantily clad in many of the spread’s images. In a recent Instagram post Hadid posted of one of the featured images, she cited the “Free the Nipple Movement.”
2. The Model Gets Candid About Her Lyme Disease:
Hadid was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease in 2012, but the rest of the world did not catch on until Hadid’s mother, "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Yolanda Foster, revealed that both Bella and her brother Anwar also had the disease. Foster, who is also afflicted with Lyme disease, attended the Global Lyme Alliance inaugural gala which is where she announced the news.
After receiving skeptical comments from fans, Hadid spoke out about dealing with the disease – which often leaves sufferers in chronic pain and fatigue – and recently told Glamour Magazine what it was like to live and work with chronic Lyme disease. When asked in the issue’s September 2016 issue about worrying when the news went public, Hadid replied, “People are mean about it. They always say that I don’t have what I have – but it’s taken a toll on my life since I was 15.”
Hadid went on to describe what it was like working full time with the disease, telling Glamour in part, “It starts with brain fog; for a while I couldn’t put sentences together. I’m really tired a lot. A few weeks ago I had a big campaign shoot that I had to reschedule. It’s hard, but I push through, because at the end of the day, if you’re not working, somebody else is.”
3. Bella Defends Sister Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner During Stephanie Seymour Fight:
Hadid recently spoke out about the comments that former supermodel Stephanie Seymour made about Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid’s older sister, Gigi Hadid. Seymour told Vanity Fair back in June that the current models (referring to Gigi and Kendall) were not like the supermodels from years past.
“They are completely different than we were,” Seymour told Vanity Fair. “Supermodels are sort of the thing of the past. They deserve their own title. [Kendall and Gigi] are beautiful girls, and I support all of them, but they need their own title.” Seymour later added that they should be called, “Bitches of the moment.”
When asked about Seymour’s Vanity Fair comments in the same Glamour article, Bella Hadid responded, “I don’t know if she meant it in that mean way. But even so, it’s still hurtful. My sister and Kendall work their asses off. We’re all working hard. You just have to let your success speak for itself … because at the end of the day, we’re making our money."
4. Arriving at the 2016 Grammy Awards with Boyfriend The Weeknd:
Hadid has been dating current boyfriend the Weeknd for over a year now. Although the two were spotted out together on a number of occasions, the 2016 Grammy Awards on Feb. 15 were the pair's first time arriving together as a couple at a major event. The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) was nominated for seven awards that evening and took home two awards.
Ostensibly one of the most prestigious weeks on the fashion calendar, Couture Week recently took place this past July in Paris. Hadid walked in many of the fall/winter 2016 haute couture shows, including Atelier Versace, Alexandre Vauthier and Christian Dior, among others.
The model made her debut at the Cannes Film Festival in France earlier this year. She most notably stunned in a custom red dress by Alexandre Vauthier for the screening of "The Unknown Girl." The reactions were huge and, after posting the image to Instagram, the model racked up a total of 243,000 “likes” and well over 6,000 comments on one image.
The French September issue cover is not Hadid’s first time appearing on a Vogue cover. In April, Hadid appeared on her very first Vogue cover for “Vogue Turkey.” The cover and feature spread was shot by photographer Sebastian Faena and styled by Konca Aykan, according to Fashionista.com .
