The feel and character development is amazing and the college feel is very nice. Highly highly recommend!! … Expand

I play a lot of visual novel games and I have never come across one with the variety and depth of Being a Dik. It also captures the Hollywood I play a lot of visual novel games and I have never come across one with the variety and depth of Being a Dik. It also captures the Hollywood feel of the college experience better than any other game. I grew up watching movies like Dead Man on Campus and this was like playing a game version of something like that where I had more choice on where the story went. I’m not saying the game was a realistic college experience, but I’m not sure it would have been as enjoyable if it were. I could bust the game on things like most colleges don’t give you 3 days notice before you’re accepted but I won’t because I put it out of my mind and enjoyed the ride. The comedy was top notch and most importantly the game was fun. I knew right from the game’s intro, where you are given a quick questionnaire by the game’s creator and a model, that I was going to enjoy it. It had a great cast of characters, many of whom I wanted to know more about and wanted to see what they would do next. My favourites had to be the main characters father and his friend Derek. Not many games portray a strong single father character so it was nice and Derek was one of those lovable idiots you can’t help but want to be around. There are a bunch of different mini games to break up the story and reading. There are drinking mini games where you have to traverse a maze with your mouse cursor without going outside of the lines; fighting mini games where you have to input the correct button combos to win the fight; and sports mini games where you have to quickly hit the right ball. You have to also take tests in various classes where you can choose to cheat or not, choose to study for or not, and choose to buy bonuses for them or not. You can also spend your money on strippers and whores if you want, you do you. The soundtrack was awesome and made me nostalgic for the 90’s even though I don’t even think a lot of it was from that era. I do wish you had a more legitimate way to earn money as most of mine in game was given as a gift or stolen.

I played Being a Dik on Linux. It never crashed on me. It does open on the wrong monitor but that is a bug with the Ren’Py engine not the fault of the game. Alt-Tab didn’t work. The game uses up 6235MB of disk space. I did notice many achievements didn’t work, ones I knew I had done that task. I didn’t notice any spelling errors.

VRAM Usage: 785-920MB
CPU Usage: 1-7%
RAM Usage: 2.6-3.8GB

This was simply a fantastic game. It has something for everyone: sex; humour; mini games; a slew of choices to direct the story where you want it to go; great music; even a little political intrigue. I finished Season 1 in 9 hours 36 minutes and it was a wild ride that I didn’t want to end. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger that means I will be eagerly waiting for Season 2. If you enjoy visual novels and don’t mind lewd content give this game a go. It shows what visual novels can be in terms of depth and variety. I have given out a perfect score in just 1% of games I have played. It doesn’t mean perfect as no game is but it means I can’t list any issue with the game that harms it’s enjoyability. Thew few criticisms I can find with Being a Dik simply didn’t really matter to me and are outweighed by the positives and how much I enjoyed it. I paid $15.49 CAD for it and would have gladly paid $50.

* Romance scenes are fantastic - if you played Acting Lessons (Dr Pinkcake's first and previous game to this one, which I highly recommend), the scenes are significantly higher quality and more detailed than that one so it's clear he's progressing with his renderings.
* Story + emotional connection to the characters is unbelievably well-executed. I mean this is on the level of AAA games like Witcher 3 as far as the relationships the main character is involved with and how well the characters are developed and fleshed out. There are so many characters and the timeline moves relatively slowly so you really feel like you're there and you're managing your avatar's relationships with the women he is pursuing, his teachers, his friends, etc. on a day to day basis. This is easily one of the best games I've ever played from an immersion angle. I was never a fan of visual novel type games, but this is freaking awesome. Other larger studios that are into making these types of adult games should seriously consider approaching Dr Pinkcake just to pay him even as a consultant to help out with the storytelling. I hope at some point he is able to hire a team of devs to help him speed these types of games along as I can't wait for season 2 in this series.
* Building off the last bullet - the level of intimacy with the characters once romance scenes happen is over-the-top fantastic. There is one in particular with Bella that really stuck with me, both when it happened and even afterward. Just very emotional and makes you / your character feel very emotionally attached to them.
* The combat mini-game is absolutely awesome, IMO. It is challenging, but once you level up your player (it has some RPG elements to building your character's fighting ability) in his stats, fighting becomes more and more manageable. It really adds to the story when you can choose to fight people in certain instances when they deserve to get beaten up. UPDATE on this after chatting with the developer about it - he indicated dialogue does change in the game based on how you do in the combat - and it's implied that there will be a larger impact down the road in future episodes for the combat - some of the stuff is scripted to happen a certain way for narrative reasons in Season 1
* Good opportunities to make story-impacting choices during dialogue sequences. I felt like I had good control over things happening in the game for the most part.
* Loved Derek - he can be basically your best buddy in the game. He's like Liam from Acting Lessons - hilarious, but a good friend, too. Really loved his character.
* Music selection by the developer was excellent - you can tell he did a very thorough job selecting the right music for the right scenes and situations as they really fuel your emotional connection to characters. People in general really like music and it sort of "supercharges" our emotions when the right music is played in certain situations, creating / strengthening emotional attachments to people in our lives, and the same happens when we watch movies or play games where the right music is associated with the right character or situation. Excellent job by the developer, there.

Cons:

* No voice-acting, so that translates to a lot of reading subtitles - if there was voice-acting you could pay a lot more attention to the artwork in the scenes instead of reading the subtitles. I would happily pay twice the current cost of this game (~$13 currently) if the developer could add voice-acting / lip syncing animations into the story - how awesome would that be. No problem at all on my end getting my wallet out for those types of enhancements in a well-told story like this - the dev would have to hire a staff for that kind of work, so like I said before, I'd personally be happy to get my wallet out and pay a bunch more money for these games if they started including it.
* I'm not a fan of the "scramble" mini-game - I find it infuriating. Just not my type of game, so I basically started skipping it after trying to get better at it for about an hour and making zero progress.
* The combat mini-game was not used enough in story events / it failed to really have much of an impact in the story. There were a few instances where I got in fights but even though I completely dominated my opponents in every instance, some events were scripted for you to lose and the other didn't really have any noticeable impact on the story with regard to the girls and how they view you as a protector / fighter, etc. Hope for more opportunities for this to matter in season 2 as I really enjoyed the fighting in it.

Game Length: Took me about 17 hours for my first play through.

Final Rating: 9.5/10 - highly recommended at full price. … Expand

Quarantine and having nothing to play forces to expand horizons. I was never fan of visual novels nor adult games (because those typically Quarantine and having nothing to play forces to expand horizons. I was never fan of visual novels nor adult games (because those typically have nothing more to it than explicit content), but very high steam ratings made me really curious.

I was pleasantly surprised, because the script is actually very well written and there is variety of characters that each feel unique and interesting in good or bad way - yep it has it's villains. There are choices, that affect how characters react to you and how events unfold. Visually it's very nicely done, there's a lot of detail in the imagery and animations that, cough, there are are pretty well done for a visual novel.

What's more, it's good value game, for a 12€ there's like 15+ hours of catchy story and guilty action, why a replay value on top of it (because you can't see everything in one playthrough, unless you save scum and replay huge sections of the game).

Really pleasant surprise of a game and quite a guilty pleasure - and yes, explicit scenes are pretty hot. … Expand

a good season start but truth to be told wasn't as emotionally heartbreaking as acting lessons but maybe that will change in future seasons
