Yeah. the BBC at the time did not realize how popular it would become and that the children/grandchildren of those who originally watched after the episode aired might want to watch it new 40+ years later, or that others might want to re-watch it, to the point where they would pay money.
An Unearthly Child, the first ever episode of Doctor Who, is one such episode - it is available on BritBox but not the BBC. But these episodes are not counted as part of the missing 97.
Thats TV have acquired some lost Till Death Us Do Part episodes from over 50 years ago.
