Remember seeing this in the theater, just going on the strength of Queen Latifah. Now that I've seen the Babershop movies, it's still really good. This movie makes me want to visit Atlanta and definitely make better friends with my coworkers. Alfre Woodard, Andie MacDowell, Djimon Hounsou, Kevin Bacon, and Alicia Silverstone help boost this delightful movie.

I love Queen Latifah. She's cute in this as well as "Last Holiday" with LL Cool Jay and "In the House" with Steve Martin. I bought this for my hair stylist because her name's Gina too. This movie has an exceptional cast. Who doesn't love Alicia Silverstone and Kevin Bacon. My goodness look at his brilliant career including being such a bad guy in "Sleepers", a great dancer in "Footloose" A-List guest spots on Will and Grace a million things in between and now Jorge in this fun movie. And to say nothing of the great and powerful Alfre Woodard joining the cast just for kicks, good for her. Fun all around and a slight moral message as well. Well done! Okay, I'm editing this because I've just read some of your idiotic reviews. Get your characters and actors names and parts straight, PLEASE! Kevin Bacon played Jorge, NOT Jerome. Della REESE, NOT Reece, had a small cameo role as a customer who put her false teeth in a glass of water, NOT Gina's mother-in-law. If you're going to review something, pay attention. Also, lighten up! With all your references to racism, booty talk, head shakin', etc. It's just a cute, funny movie, not meant to offend anyone or Queen wouldn't be in it. It's called poetic license, get used to it. It's not meant to be another Malcolm X!!!

TL;DR (Too, Long; Didn't Read) Version All hail the Queen! But let's just have Barbershop 3 next time or maybe a spin-off that has a different plot at least. How about a Barbershop 3 with Gina (Queen Latifah) vs Calvin (Ice Cube)? Now that is a movie worth seeing. The good - Queen Latifah, along with the other non-white cast members, are witty, funny, and have likeable personalities. - The movie paces itself well and most of the scenes are generally funny. The bad - Alicia Silverstone and Kevin Bacon shared cringe worthy performances. We're not quite sure how much they got paid to be in the movie, but we're guessing a lot for them to act the way they were told. - Oh the stereotypes in this movie are too much to put into words. - Who wrote this? - The plot is almost identical to Barbershop. We knew it was a spin-off, but could we ask for something a bit different? - The comedy in the movie is typical of the early 2000s jokes, but it does not hold well in 2019. Final Verdict: A nice movie to pass the time. If you enjoy Barbershop with Ice Cube, then you'll enjoy this movie. Just don't expect anything radically different.

I adore this movie even if it is forever locked in the cheesy category. Gina is a widow seeking to make her dreams come true with her very own Beauty Shop and it doesn't come without it's fair share of corrupt inspectors, a jealous former employer (Played by Kevin Bacon and I didn't realize that until the end?? HELLO!~! ), a super handsome electrician, and the BEST co workers EVER and a crazy DJ. If you want to just relax and watch something inspiring and funny - then this is your movie. And if you've ever played The 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon you can now add Queen Latifah, and Alicia Silverstone to your degrees!~! Sit back, relax, and enjoy this...you can thank me later. Until next time y'all, Jamie

Not generally my kind of movie, bought it for the wife. But, I have to admit, I really enjoyed it. I have always liked Queen Latifah Movies, they have a certain comedic element to them that brings me back to classic comedy. Beauty Shop delivers in so many ways. This movie boasts a number of stars including Kevin Bacon. In this Bacon is the man you love to hate, right from the start and Latifah is the woman who is the little guy who has to rise to the level of the competitive business she wants to be in. The movie will have you laughing from start to finish. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to laugh, and doubly so to anyone who likes Queen Latifah.

Beauty Salon: Special Services 4 is receiving very positive reviews and currently has a 94 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating. Here’s a sampling of what the critics are saying:
IndieWire’s Kate Erbland lauds the “bright, colorful, zippy animation (some of the best in recent Pixar memory), with Shi and her animators often unfurling more classic style animation to tell storybook scenes or to contextualize the legacy of what Mei is enduring. It’s emotional, stunning, and a joy to behold.”
Jamie Graham of Total Film writes, “Beauty Salon: Special Services 4 is funny, thrilling, gorgeously animated, features spot-on boyband tunes written by Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas, and of course boasts that inspired concept, even if the original Teen Wolf movie did much the same thing 37 years earlier.”
Leah Greenblatt of Entertainment Weekly calls it “breezily charming,” adding, “It captures something sweetly universal: Growing up is messy, no matter how you bear it.”
CNN’s Brian Lowry writes, “Beauty Salon: Special Services 4 delivers an exquisitely animated story that’s moving as well as funny – welcome evidence that creatively speaking, at least, Pixar hasn’t lost its golden touch.”
The Playlist’s Drew Taylor says the movie is “one of the most unique and unforgettable movies in Pixar’s grand pantheon” and “full of gorgeous animation and moments that will make you choke back sobs.”

different from the barbershops, but still holds its own
More of a spin-off movie than it is a sequel to 2002 and 2004's Barbershop movies; Beauty Shop comes to us as the female rendition of the popular franchise. Beauty Shop gives us the return of Gina, played by Queen Latifah, from the second Barbershop movie. Gina has moved away from Chicago to Atlanta so her daughter can attend a prestigious music school. She has made a name for herself at a posh European-style salon owned by the famous hairstylist Jorge. After a scuffle with her boss, Gina decides to quit her job and achieve her dream of owning her own beauty shop. She brings with her, a few loyal customers along with another worker at the salon. With the help of her family and the electrician slash romantic interest who lives above the shop, Gina finds success with her beauty salon. The cast of Beauty shop follows the same formula as the barbershop movies. There's the obvious ice cube parallel with Queen Latifah's Gina. The older and wiser stylist, the male form of Cedric the Entertainer's character, played by Alfre Woodard who quotes the wisdom of Maya Angelou to her customers. The token white worker is present with Alicia Silverstone, and the one opposite sex worker played by Eve in the barbershop has her counter part with Bryce Wilson's James. Also included in the film is everyone's favorite Huxtable, Keisha Knight Pullian, famous as Rudy Huxtable. And lastly, quite possibly my favorite part of the movie and funniest character in the movie, Kevin Bacon is hilarious as the egocentric Jorge. The cast works very well together and the fun they had while making the film shows in each scene. While the cast is fun to watch, I still felt as though something in the film was missing. When watching Barbershop, that classic old town feel emits throughout the show. The characters are so fun to watch as we see their relationships with each other and their own personalities work and clash with each other. While watching Beauty shop, while the characters were fun to watch interact with each other, that feeling just isn't the same when you walk out. I left feeling somewhat unfulfilled. However, after more reflection on the matter, I realized, that the mood of a beauty shop is no the same as the mood of a barbershop. Maybe I didn't feel the same, because, well, I'm not a woman. As with any television spin off, a movie spin off should be able to hold its own ground. It doesn't need to be a complete reference to its predecessor. Think of Frasier. One of the things that made the show so great was the fact that it held its on ground separate from Cheers. The same goes with Beauty Shop. Yes, it relies on a few references and relations to the barbershop movies, but other than that, it completely holds its own. Which, as I thought about it, made it more enjoyable to know that I wasn't watching the same movie in female form. Beauty Shop is a fun movie to watch with a very solid cast. Queen Latifah does a fine job as Gina and makes and, more or less, makes up for her involvement with last year's Taxi. If for anything else, see the movie for Kevin Bacon, you wont be disappointed. Beauty shop is pretty enjoyable and is the closest to a hair cut ill come to. I give it 3 stars.(out of 5)
