Forget the cycling road race, the swimming and the diving, it seems the Olympic event on everyone's lips is women's beach volleyball - but just what is the appeal?
Leave it to the Games' number one cheerleader, Boris Johnson, to sum it up.
In a newspaper column published today, the London Mayor drools over 'semi-naked' female beach volleyball players 'glistening like otters' in the rain.
The bizarre simile cropped up among Mr Johnson's '20 reasons to feel cheerful' about the Olympics, which he strung together in a triumphant piece for the Daily Telegraph.
It may only be day three of London 2012, but already Mr Johnson, never the staid statesman, has been in characteristically colourful form.
Last week a concert held to mark the end of the Olympic Torch relay found him trash-talking US presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, after the American questioned whether London was equipped to host the Games.

'There are some people coming from around the world who don't yet know if we are ready,' Mr Johnson bellowed to a crowd of 60,000 in central London's Hyde Park.
'There's a guy called Mitt Romney who wants to know whether we are ready. Are we ready? Yes we are!'
The Conservative mayor's way with words seems to have been a hit among the party ranks, as a recent poll suggests about a third of Tories want Mr Johnson to succeed David Cameron as party leader.
The survey, conducted by ConservativeHome, put Foreign Secretary and former Tory leader William Hague at 24 per cent of the vote, while Education Secretary Michael Gove was in third.
Chancellor George Osborne, at the helm of the Coalition's unpopular austerity measures, took just two per cent.
Mr Johnson, whose larger-than-life character has won him fans and critics in equal measure, showcased more of his unique turn of phrase during the Hyde Park speech.
He told the crowd: 'The excitement is growing so much I think the Geiger counter of Olympo-mania is going to go "zoink!" off the scale.'
It appears this sense of anticipation has infected none more so than Mr Johnson himself.
Rather than the more highbrow political rhetoric favoured by some of his rivals, today's column finds Mr Johnson gushing in excitable, chummy tones.
Number 19 in his list reads: 'As I write these words there are semi-naked women playing beach volleyball in the middle of the Horse Guards Parade immortalised by Canaletto. They are glistening like wet otters and the water is plashing off the brims of the spectators' sou'westers. The whole thing is magnificent and bonkers.'
'Yaaay!' begins his item celebrating Lizzie Armitstead's silver medal in the cycling road race and 400m freestyle swimmer Rebecca Adlington taking bronze.
The rundown later finds him boasting about organisers having completed the venues 'on time and under budget' and gloating about the rain staying away for Friday night's big launch.
He even heaps praise on the Opening Ceremony speech by International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge, a far less lively orator than Mr Johnson himself and a definite lull amid the explosive energy of Danny Boyle's extravaganza.
