Barbara Ann Mandrell, the oldest of the three sisters, was born in Texas on December 25, 1948. She got married to Ken Dudney in 1967 and has three children. Having spent a significant amount of her time in California, Barbara became a well-known musician in the 1970s and 1980s, though she occasionally also took up acting and writing jobs.
Millions enjoyed watching the TV variety show 'Barbara Mandrell and The Mandrell Sisters.' After two years of modest rating success, the popular TV show came to an end—to the relief of the sisters. "Irlene and I were tired, and Barbara was exhausted," Louise recalled. The strain on Barbara's voice was becoming too much too.
