This year, in 2020, the event will be held from January 12 through 13.

The Legend Associated With the Festival

As per Hindu mythology, the famous Banganga Tank where the festival is organized is created by Lord Rama. It is believed that when Lord Rama was in search of his wife, Goddess Sita, he stayed near the Banganga Tank for a while and sat in meditation to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. After worshipping the deity, he felt thirsty and he shot an arrow there due to which, a tributary of Ganga appeared and satisfied his thirst.

  1. The two pillars at the entrance were used for oil lamps in the ancient era.
  2. This holy pond is surrounded by temples like Walkeshewar Temple, Kavale Math Walkeshwar, Shri Kashi Math and others. 
  3. Lord Shiva’s devotee bull, Nandi’s statue is located on the entrance of Shiva Temple
