Yes, I said ballet boots as opposed to ballet shoes. The concept is the same, to help you walk around on your tiptoes but the materials and purposes are different.
While ballet shoes are mainly used to perform classical dance, ballet boots are a type of footwear that merges the ultimate high heel with the pointy shoe. Depending on shoe size, the ballet boot’s heel can be around 18 cm. (7 inches) or more. Yes, you are right, that is extremely long and it means that the foot is fully extended in the shoe, held almost vertically supported by the toes.

Ok. You are right, ballet boots are not meant for prolonged standing or walking, they can be extremely painful to wear for people not used to this kind of footwear. At the very least, having worn my first pair not long ago, I can tell you that ballet boots are uncomfortable!
Wearing ballet boots successfully takes time and practice because of the extreme design, which is very hard on the feet and calves of inexperienced wearers.
Ballet boots are more a fashion accessory used for “playing games” in certain circles than practical footwear. Some people find ballet boots extremely sexy, while others just think it is a silly type of footwear. The point is that whether you love or hate them, ballet boots cannot go unnoticed, so if like me you love to be the centre of attention, a pair of ballet boots will get you noticed under any circumstance.
Most ballet boots are made of latex and or leather. The boots can come in the form of ankle high, knee height and thigh high lengths. For comfort many designs lace up in the front, allowing a tight fit which makes it easier to wear them. However, for ease of wearing, most boots are also fitted with a zip.

The first thing you need to do is find your center — the position in which you can rest in total balance.
If you want to wear Ballet boots, I found the following advice helpful:
By practicing daily for short periods building up your muscles, balance, and confidence, you will soon be walking in your ballet boots without any assistance.

rjbatty: wearing ballet heels can be very dangerous if you are not prepared for them. Once you have been wearing them for a while they are actually not that bad as you can see in the tutorial.
rjbatty from Irvine on May 29, 2012:
Wow. This is extreme S&M boot wear. Unless you are a practiced ballerina, I don't see how the average female can wear them. They look nice for photographic purposes, but actually walking about in them seems impossible or dangerous. Most women can barely tolerate a six-inch heel length. Boots of this kind only seem appropriate for bedroom photography.
Thank you for all the tips Tina Tv Chesire. I am sure they will become very handy.
Just imagine how would it feel wearing them Dance bags...
Great page! i really enjoyed reading this!

Having toyed with ballet boots on and off myself for years and only just learned the secret - here is a tip from my GF, who used to be part of a group of girls who could (and frequently did) more or less live in ballet boots all weekend for clubbing and partying....mind you they were all custom made by a (now deceased) cobbler which helped!
The trick is to get a pair that do NOT put all the weight on your toes as unless you are lucky enough to weigh next to nothing then sooner or later you'll break them! Part of the weight should also be taken across the foot at its broadest point (usually the base of the toes) and some should also be taken on the highest point of the arch - which is why ballet boots nearly always lace up for best fit. The 'toe box' also shouldn't be so deep that it allows the toes to curl under (a problem I've had with the Chinese/American ones). Unfortunately, unless you are lucky enough to have 'standard sized' feet or can find somewhere that makes them to measure (and I'm not aware of anywhere in the world that currently does this) you are down to experimenting with socks, padding etc etc to get the weight distribution right. Once you do - and you have toned up the ankle and calf muscles enough to keep the ankle vertical - it is quite feasible to walk in them (though it's never likely to be comfortable!). And yes I quite agree with a previous post that talks about proper gel toe pads, they DO help.
One thing I have tried with some success for overly-large ballet boots is to get a self-mix fairly-high-density silicone rubber gel kit (commonly used for mould-making etc), mix enough up, pour it into the boot then put your foot in but do NOT lace up fully - don't have stockings or tights on as they will set into the gel, put a bit of vaseline on your foot - then let it set. The inside of the boot will then be an exact match for your foot, so when you lace up tight it squeezes your foot slightly and keeps teh weight distributed. NB - YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET THE GEL OUT OF THE BOOTS AGAIN IF YOU GET IT WRONG SO YOU RISK WRECKING THEM, YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!
LOL, I do have strong calves mtsi, maybe from years and years of wearing high heels :) but even then, these boots are painful after a while, I cannot wear them for more than a few minutes at a time if I have to walk on them. I can stand them a little longer if I only sit down or stand up without moving! practice I guess ;-)
You must have the strongest calf muscles on hubpages...these look painful but if anyone can wear these it is you (I mean that in a good way). I always enjoy your hubs...
You see Sally... even you can see the "pleasurable" side of wearing ballet boots :D
It's always something to talk about when you are putting your feet up with the girls Gma...
Thanks for the compliment Non-offensive
You look like a perfect candidate for wearing these boots Kim, you could give me a few lessons on the way girl!
thank you very much for the advice Marisa. As I mentioned above, I am new to these type of boots. I am going to check your hub on ballet stretching, get those gel toe pads and maybe link your hub to mine -if you don't mind- as further knowledgeable advice for those who dare wear the ballet boots.
Kate Swanson from Sydney on July 03, 2010:
I can't imagine people who've never danced ballet surviving in these for long!
Two important tips - DO NOT stretch your feet and legs before wearing these. As I explain in my Hub on ballet stretching, when you stretch a muscle it's weak for about half an hour afterwards, so stretching will make standing in these shoes harder! Instead, do ankle circles and jogging on the spot to warm up.
Second, get along to a ballet store and buy yourself proper gel toe pads for pointe shoes. They'll work a heck of a lot better than a pair of thick socks.
OK these are the best. I danced point for 14 years so I already have super strong toes with a solid arch. I have to get a pair. Did you? What color should I start with on my first pair?
Hadn't seen these before-so wicked hub girl
I am rating it up and sharing it everywhere
Non-offensiveUser on July 02, 2010:
They look like they should be called 'the boots of poor judgement'. I mean the look cool and all, but something tells me that once you lace them up you're going to be regreting it every step of the way.... They look great on you though.
Kelly Kline Burnett from Madison, Wisconsin on July 02, 2010:
Amazing! I don't want a pair but glad I know they exist! Wow! You are keeping me on my toes! Pun intended!
Sherri from Southeastern Pennsylvania on July 02, 2010:
“It is always by way of pain one arrives at pleasure.” ---For me, that would be the instant I took them off.
Never heard of them Anath. Thanks for this most interesting Hub!
Peter Dickinson from South East Asia on July 02, 2010:
To answer your question....no I would not dare wear them. If I could squeeze my feet in and actually stand I doubt I would ever walk again. Great hub though. Thank you.
They are CM, look how Nigella is holding onto the table!
Like the Marquis de Sade once said “It is always by way of pain one arrives at pleasure.”...
carolina muscle from Charlotte, North Carolina on July 02, 2010:
damn.. those look like they would be excruciating to wear!!
Now you've seen them Nan, yes you have to stand on the tip of your toes... not very comfortable...
I never saw any ballet boots! Interesting article, and you have to stand as if you were a ballet dancer.
how about you send the picture to me ;-) the rest of the outfit
Pictures of the rest of the outfit would ban me from HubPages darling, and me to ,I would need to come back as a non-offensive user LOL But don't worry, there are plenty around if you really look for them ;-)
Non-offensiveUser on July 01, 2010:
Those Dominate! Now how about a pic of the rest of your outfit? I digging on that rug too! You always seem to find the craziest things, yet some of the coolest.

Ballet boots—not to be confused with ballet shoes—are not designed as footwear for everyone. The boot is constructed to force the foot into an extremely pointed toe and arch position. Once the foot is inside the boot and the boot is laced, the foot cannot move from this position. Learning to wear and walk in ballet boots takes dedication, determination and patience, but it can help ballet dancers stretch their feet to achieve the utmost pointe position.
Purchase a pair of ballet boots the same size or one-half size larger than your normal shoe size.
Pad the toe of the ballet boot with lamb’s wool. Padding will cushion the toe as it hits the end of the boot.
Make sure your toenails are short to prevent injury. Ballet boots can put stress on the toenail area.
Lace the boot tightly, all the way to the top, to support the ankles.
Build endurance gradually until you can wear the boots for a few hours each day. Wear the boot without walking until your foot adjusts to the ballet boot.
Hold the back of a sturdy chair for balance the first few times you attempt to stand while wearing the ballet boot.
Walk beside someone or hold a railing for your first attempts at walking. Place the heel on the ground first and then the toe. Walk slowly and take short steps.
Limit walking in the ballet boots to one-half hour a day until the foot adjusts to the position.

If i was her I would wish to remain trapped in the red ballet boots for good

Kayla Jennings was cleaning the spare bedroom. Out of curiosity she opened
the closet door and looked at the array of dresses that was hanging there. She
looked at the three pairs of flats on the floor of the closet. She took one
dress on its hanger out and looked at it. It was a blue one with bright red
roses printed on it. It had a ruffle around the bottom of the skirt. She shook
her head, as it was not her style at all. She did wonder how her husband of
four years looked in it though.
Her husband Patrick had told her on their third date that he liked to
sometimes cross-dress. She had told him it wasn't a problem with her as long
as she didn't have to see him dressed that way. She had seen him once when she
got home from working the second shift at the local hospital where she was a
Registered Nurse. He had fallen asleep on the couch and when she woke him he
hurried to get the clothes off.
Three days later she was on the third shift and she had gotten up at noon
and fixed him a light lunch, He came in from his shop where he was a mosaic
artist. His mosaics were prominent at many of the churches in the area. He had
made mosaics for churches as far as three hundred miles away. He was well
known in his field. Right now he was working on a large one for a new church
twenty miles away.
"Well, how is this one coming? I know it is a large one. I am amazed at how
you can make a picture with all those small pieces of tile."
"Well, I just about got Jesus done, then I have to do the four children.
It's going surprisingly good as far as everything falling into place. This is
the second biggest mosaic I've ever done. It is going to be half of a long
wall. I have to do it in three pieces to be butted together at the church. How
was your night last night? Were you busy?"
"Yes we were. Oh, you know Peter Steffens don't you? Well he cut three
fingers cutting something and Dr. Benton had a hard time stitching them so he
wouldn't lose them. It took forever and they admitted him because he had lost
a lot of blood from the cuts. He'll be okay though. He just won't be using
that hand for a while."
They ate lunch making small talk and Patrick went back to work in his shop.
Kayla cleaned up and went to read the previous evening's paper. The doorbell
rang and when she went to answer it no one was there, but there was a package
lying on the porch. She picked it up and through the wrapping she could feel
what felt like a shoebox. She looked at the label and it read Fantasy Shoes.
It was addressed to Patrick.
She took it in to him. He glanced at it and set it down. She asked him if
he was going to open it and he said he knew what was in it and he wasn't going
to open it right now.
Sharply she said, "Open it. I want to see what you got!"
He replied, "It isn't anything that would interest you. I'll open it
later."
"If you won't open it, I will. Are you going to open it or not?"
"If you are that set on opening it go ahead but I am telling you there
isn't anything in there of interest to you."
She opened it and found a pair of red patent leather pumps with a five-inch
stiletto heel. She unwrapped each shoe and looked at the shiny red patent
leather. A smile crossed her face.
"Have you worn heels before? Why did you buy such high ones?"
"I found them on the Internet and the price was right so I ordered them.
No, I haven't worn heels before but I thought I would try them. If they are
too uncomfortable I just won't wear them."
"They match the flowers in your blue dress with the ruffle. Why don't you
go put it on and try the shoes? I want to see how you do in them."
He was surprised, because she had never taken an interest in his dressing
before. He wondered if it was such a good idea to change and then appear
before her. She was telling him to go dress, and it just wasn't like her. He
knew there were times he would have liked to dress when she was home. Maybe
she was getting more tolerant of it. He decided to go change as she'd
suggested.
As he was putting his bra on he wondered if this was the right thing to do.
Kayla had never wanted to see him dressed like this before. Why did she want
to now? He wondered what she had in mind.
He finished dressing and tried the shoes, and found he was having a lot of
trouble walking in them. He thought about taking them off and wearing the
white flats he normally wore with this dress. But in the end he awkwardly made
his way down the hall, using the wall to steady himself. He made it to the
half wall, and didn't want Kayla to see he had to steady himself to walk in
the heels, so he took very short steps and finally made it into the living
room where Kayla was waiting.
She smiled as she saw him mince his way into the room. Here was her husband
dressed as a sissy. She felt a sense of revulsion, then decided that he should
be taught a lesson.
"Turn around for me so I can get a look at how you look from all angles."
He turned for her but she told him to keep turning, only slower. He was
having a lot of trouble in those heels.
"You would look a lot better wearing make up. Go in the bathroom and put
some lipstick on. Pick a nice red on to match your shoes!"
He did as he was told. She marveled at how he did it without arguing or
protest. She found she felt a certain sense of joy telling him what to do.
He returned, still taking short steps but handling it better. She asked him
how he liked walking in heels. He told her it was going to take some practice
and that he was going to take them off now.
"No, leave them on. The only way you are going to get used to them is to
keep wearing them. As long as you're dressed like a woman you can do some
woman's work. Say, all the floors in the house. That way we can kill two birds
with one stone. "
He told her his legs were already sore but she told him it would go away if
he kept the shoes on. She repeated her order for him to do the floors. So he
started in. She sat and watched him do the living room, lifting her legs so he
could do the floor by her.
He kept it up until he was doing their bedroom. His legs hurt so much he
sat on he edge of the bed. He was sitting there when Kayla, not hearing the
carpet cleaner run, came to investigate.
