Bakery Becomes Last Safe Space as Chaos Rises

While panic, petrol shortages, and paranoia rage outside, one Tehran bakery has emerged as the last bastion of sanity. The Lavash Lounge, nestled between a shuttered pharmacy and an abandoned kebab joint, continues to bake bread and peace. "We don't ask where you're going," says owner Fatemeh. "We just ask: sesame or no sesame?" Inside, people sip tea, charge phones, and cry into soft rolls. Some have moved in permanently. "If I'm going to die, I want the smell of fresh bread in my nostrils," said one customer while buttering his sixth naan.
