Aug 2, 2012 . #1 . I have been getting a " bad or n/s HDD " message when I plug it ( Zalman ) into a machine . I have encountered this before and I contacted Zalman support and they told me that the particular message that I was seeing was likely a result of the hard drive loosening within the enclosure and not having a good connection .
BTW, I also got that " bad or n/s HDD message" when I first connected the unit . It flagged the HD as being bad , yet all the tests I ran on the drive independently passed with flying colors . I put another drive in & it worked, no problem . Also, I notice that when I load an iso, it does not list them when I scroll through .
Ok, so, I went ahead and rebuild the SSD with an Enterprise SSD (durable writes FTW) . Works fine on all other machines, except this one, where I get the bad or N/S HDD message . The device itself has different issues, such as I am unable to boot any form of Linux on it . Windows 10 and FreeBSD (pfSense) boot perfectly fine .

Zalman ZM-VE200 HDD enclosure . Better then the older model the ' I-Odd 2501 USB disk enclosure . By default, the virtual drive shows up as a BD-ROM drive on your computer, so even if you don't have a Blu-ray drive, you kind of do with the ZM-VE200 . Just received mine thru the mail . The ZALMAN ZM-VE200 is based on the licensed design from Iodd .
