The Child Day School - San Ramon / Hidden Canyon
San Ramon is one of the safesty neighborhoods in the easy bay area. I have lived here my entire life and I would say I am very lucky to have lived in this town. There are many things to do, places to eat, and they recently opened the City Center which is basically like a mall with a theater and good foods and a farmers market on the weekends! There are also many public schools to choose from, the schools that I went to were very nice and safe.

People rave about the schools but honestly they’re not that great. Administrators and teachers are mediocre at best. Reason why schools here perform well is because the affluent families send their kids to tutoring and other academic prep to makeup for the lack of teaching from the schools here.
Crime has gone up considerably since I’ve been here (20 yrs). City and police try to play it down instead of increasing police patrol. You rarely see police presence unless it’s a speed trap.
Demographic has also changed dramatically. San Ramon has become another Fremont.
Greedy builders keep building homes and the city let’s them. It’s crowded and over populated. Schools are crowded and many new residents can’t even send their kids to their designated schools. No plans to build more schools but every month another new house or apartments are built!
Do your homework before moving to San Ramon!

There isn't much to do in San Ramon; it's very much a "suburban utopia" with excellent schools, white-picket fence houses, and cute dogs :)
It's in a very nice location, with lots of hiking trails nearby, but it isn't very accessible to Oakland or San Francisco unless you're willing to make a 30 minute - 90 minute commute. Many residents do actually work in SF and Palo Alto in tech.
San Ramon is known primarily for its safety and the high quality of its public schools. You'll feel safe walking around at night/in the dark for the most part, and crime rates are very low. The public school offer many APs and send students off to top colleges (Dougherty Valley High School in particular), but they can also be very competitive.
San Ramon isn't very diverse; it's primarily made up of Asian immigrants and whites. It's a nice place if you're looking to build community with other immigrants.
Overall, San Ramon is a very nice suburb. Your experience really depends on your preferences.
