A 31-year-old South Lyon woman and a 62-year-old Kentucky man were arrested and cited for prostitution on Dec. 7 at the Days Inn on Michigan Avenue and Lotz Road, according to a police report.
The man told police he was in Canton for his 16-year-old daughter's hockey tournament and admitted to coming to the hotel after finding an ad on Backpage.com. The man said he made an agreement with the woman for a massage with a "happy ending" for $100, the report said.
The woman told police that she has two ads on the site, one under the escort section and one under massages.
The New York Times said in a report last year that Backpage accounts for about 70 percent of the prostitution advertising among five web sites carrying such content and earns more than $22 million annually from those ads.
The woman admitted the man was her second client of the day, police said. She told police that there is a high demand for her services. She also said that some men have had her dress up as a little girl to satisfy their needs, the report said.
According to the police report, police have made several narcotic and prostitution arrests in the Days Inn parking lot. The area also has had frequent fuel and motor vehicle thefts, as well.
Canton Police were patrolling the area and became suspicious after noticing a silver Dodge Caravan pull up to a hotel room, but nobody went in or came out, the report said.
Police made contact with the driver, a 49-year-old Southfield man, who was later identified as the woman's boyfriend. He told police that he was staying in the hotel and drove to the gas station to pick up some things, but did not have a driver's license because it was suspended from traffic tickets, the report said.
He was placed under arrest and cited for driving without a license, the report said.
The woman also was cited for possession of marijuana after she produced a joint from her suitcase, the report said.
Police confiscated the $100 used to pay the woman, the report said.
