I personally have mixed feelings about living here, it's the type of city that is small enough to know everyone and feel trapped while also being big enough to live a completely different and unique lifestyle than your neighbors. I strongly feel that our public school system lacks in having standards in continuing to have ambitious and successful students. Even before the pandemic occurred it appears that a some (not all) teachers in the system focused more on passing students to move on rather than ensuring the students learned the material. Although Amarillo has it's twists and turns, there truly is no place like here, there are some amazing local businesses such as Cliffside Coffee, The Bagel Place, and many others that make it feel like home. It's exciting to see what opportunities this growing city has to offer.

Amarillo is NOT recycling friendly--very hard to find a community recycling center for all the plastics we use, the paper, the aluminum etc. Waaay overdue for something like that, that is more convenient than the East Blvd. VERY BORING town unless you want to go out to eat, walk at a park, or go shopping. We lost Toys R Us, Pier 1 Imports, Albertson's Grocery Store, and many other places. Businesses SERIOUSLY struggle here. So many closed up doors/went out of business. The libraries are closed for many months due to Covid, as well as super restricted hours for many other places, closing hours earlier or closed more days of the week. We REALLY REALLY REALLY need a new mayor btw. Yes we have tons of friendly people here but this small city is ran more like a small town (and keeping it that way kind of Mindset with the city officials, which SUCKS a** for ANY growth here, better entertainment options etc.) We NEED to see more businesses Thrive here! Not dive and hit bottom......

Who writes this crap? Amarillo's Mayor and City Council go out of their way to dream up ways to reward their rich friends and raise taxes. Most of the residents are illiterate or under-educated at best. Moronic low-paying jobs are basically all that is available. There is a huge gap between the well to do and those that service them. People who had to grow up here aspire only to move anywhere else before they die. If you're a rich trust fund baby you will do fine here, since wages are relatively low you can have your wishes catered to by the slime that works here, but watch out, they will steal you blind. Boring as hell, but they are always trying to rebuild the civic center and build more entertainment venues for the bored rich. A depressing place to live and the wind blows like crazy every day. It's either -6 or 106 depending on the season. Never rains, but the rich have a big lake full of water to water their lawns with and wash their cars. You are blessed if you die early.
