Photographer Liza Van Der Stock’s intimate project about a porn-producing family in Flanders was shortlisted for the 2015 Sony World Photography Awards.
In a Flemish village outside of Turnhout, Belgium, Laura and Maurice live together with their daughter Eva. They have all the trappings of a normal family, but when 9-year-old Eva is at school, Maurice and Laura start their day jobs as porn producers.
I photographed the family for two years for my project called Paradi$e Lu$t. They’ve given me unfettered access to both their personal and professional lives. The duo, more than anything, are small business owners: together they started a production company called “Stout!” around a decade ago. It’s still a modest operation: they produce the movies and both work the camera. And, from time to time, they are the porn stars as well.
Like Maurice and Laura, their other actors are ordinary people. They’re fathers and neighbors. Salesmen and postmen. The sex and the bodies are very real, not fake, not glamorous.
Maurice and Laura used to live above an erotic club they owned and filmed in, but they moved out to the quieter village once Eva got a little older. The most interesting thing about the village life was the process of gaining their new community’s acceptance. When Eva was new in her school there were some children who couldn’t play with her because their parents didn’t allow it. Laura really wanted everybody to accept them, so she threw a very big party for Eva’s birthday. She cleaned the house for two days and made it totally sex-free. She invited everybody from the school, also the parents. People came to realize that they are just normal people and since then she organizes the party each year.

Maurice and Laura are always very honest with Eva. They don’t want to lie to her. But of course they informed her about their job in words she can understand. She knows that they had a bar where naked people came to have a drink and to dance. Eva has a really good relationship with her parents and their job has never been an obstacle. And in my time with them, I saw a warm family with a very normal life that really separated their work life from their personal life. A moment I remember very well was when Eva received her first communion in church. Laura was very involved in the ceremony and afterwards there was a party in their new café. Friends and family came along and it was a very good day. In the porn Laura and Maurice make, actors are captured on tape as they are. My project aims to portray the family with that same humanity.

A grieving family and packed funeral congregation were left horrified when a pornographic video was accidentally played during the service.
Hundreds of people gathered at Thornhill Crematorium in Cardiff to pay their respects to Simon Lewis, 33, and his baby boy, Simon Lewis Jnr, who were killed in a head-on collision.
Mr Lewis died in the crash on New Year's Eve on Lamby Way in Cardiff. His pregnant wife and their three-year-old daughter were also in the car at the time.
Three days later, following concern about the couple’s unborn baby being in distress as a result of the collision, Simon Jnr was born by emergency Caesarean Section at the University Hospital of Wales , Cardiff. He died in hospital later the same day.
Mourners at Wednesday's funeral described their shock after a crematorium blunder saw pornographic footage played by accident, instead of a tribute made in remembrance of Mr Lewis.
Cardiff council, which runs the crematorium, has launched an urgent investigation.
“It was absolutely disgusting, the priest turned around to play the video of Simon, but instead a hard-core pornography video was played on the big screen," said a funeral-goer, who wished to remain anonymous.

“Everyone was in shock, Simon’s father-in-law was furious, he shouted at the staff present and told them to turn it off.
“It took them nearly four minutes to turn it off, people couldn’t believe what they were seeing.
“To the priest’s credit he handled it extremely well. He apologised on behalf of Cardiff Council and said that in 30 years of doing the job, he had never seen such filth.”
Reverend Lionel Fanthorpe, who led the funeral service, said: "I remember looking up at the screen and seeing some type of video came on and a very loud noise.
"I look at my congregations instead of the TV screen, but when I heard this noise and members of the congregation moving towards the screen, I realised something was wrong.
"Members of the family were very distressed, and Simon's father-in-law was desperately upset.
"Thankfully an engineer came to fix it and turn it off. It seems to be some kind of electronic accident.
"I was extremely saddened for the family at losing Simon and the baby, and this was not what anybody could have ever imagined or wanted. My heart goes out to all the friends and family present."

A spokeswoman for the family said: "An unfortunate situation occurred today at the funeral of Simon Lewis and Simon Lewis Jnr which was beyond the control of family, friends and the funeral congregation. Until the investigation has finished in its entirety there will be no further comments from the family."

A City of Cardiff Council spokesman, said: “The council has forwarded a written apology to the family and is carrying out an urgent investigation. There were four television screens used to display visual tributes as part of this funeral service.
“The television screen which showed the inappropriate content was recently installed, replacing a screen which was broken. We are trying to establish if the new screen – which is a SMART television – could have accepted or picked up a broadcast by accident via blue tooth or across a WiFi network.
“The other three screens which aren’t SMART TVs were unaffected. We are clear that it isn’t possible for any member of staff to play or download anything on the computer that links to the screens in the chapel. The screen has now been completely disconnected until audio visual engineers carry out a thorough investigation.
“We would like to take this opportunity to send our sincere apologies to the family their relatives, friends and mourners at the funeral.”
A spokeswoman for James Summers & Son, the funeral directors, said: “We are currently unclear on how the video was placed in the player at the crematorium, but we have asked Cardiff Council to launch a full investigation into the matter.
“As the funeral director for this service, we would like to offer our sincere sympathies and apologies to the late Simon Lewis’ family for the additional upset they experienced during today’s service.
"As the crematorium operator, Cardiff City Council facilitated the digital display of the images during the service.
"We have requested that they launch a full investigation to explain to the Lewis family how such a distressing incident could happen and we remain in contact regarding this.”
