I need some advice as a FTM. For the last three days (she's now 8 days old) my baby girl is peeing everywhere (and occasionally pooping) while I change her diaper. I have everything ready to go, diapers wipes and cream before I start. As soon as I start cleaning her with a wipe (using a wipe warmer) she starts to pee ( or poo). I tend to catch most of us within the diaper or wipe but still having to change the change pad almost every time as she gets some on it. I have tried varying timing of when I change her diaper relative to her soiling it and to when I feed her and it doesn't seem to matter. Any suggestions on how to avoid this? Could it be the warm wipes vs. Cold wipes?
Just the way tiny babies are... messy! It wont last long. Its the cool air I think that makes them go so maybe just try leaving the soiled diaper open a few seconds before you start changing
Puppy pee pads on your change table make for easy clean up when there is a diaper free mess. I get mine from dollarrama.
My daughter used to do this too when she was new born. As she got older we learned to always slide the new diaper under the old one first but at this point you'd end up going through a lot more diapers. There are change pad liners you can get that are waterproof and then you just throw them in the wash and don't have to change the cover each time. I got mine at target but unfortunately they're gone now. I've also seen them on Amazon. Mine are munchkin brand. You could also put down a receiving blanket but it won't be waterproof.
I always open the diaper but keep a hand on it, wait for baby to start peeing, and then quickly close it. It might not catch poop, but it always worked for pee as long as the diaper wasn't already too wet.
I bought change pad liners (think they are munchkin brand) as PP mentioned off Amazon. They come in a 3 pack and were so much easier than changing the pad cover every time with my son. Totally recommend them!

My fiance and I used to open up her diaper, blow cold air on her, then close it back up for a few seconds. Worked like a charm!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I'll give it a shot and stock up on some more waterproof change pads.
If you're interested - look into elimination communication, you can use that pee reflex as soon as the diaper comes off to your advantage! We used it with our other two kids - it was sooo nice to have to change very few poopy diapers - just everytime we changed their diaper we held baby over the toilet or a little plastic container - pees and poos went in there, a tiny wipe with a piece of toilet paper and all done!!!
