We have had a number of different Chefs Choice electric kettles (overall we have always found the Chefs Choice to be the best)... our last one which had a glass carafe which I inadvertently broke after several years of satisfactory use. Upon unboxing this new model I noted that both the kettle and the power base are notably lighter then all our previous kettles - so had some concern about the implications for "quality and durability". Now, having used this for several weeks I'm happy to give this product TWO THUMBS UP! I think the overall lighter material has in no way diminished the quality or durability, but have only made it easier to use while giving the base a more modern look. I find this model "pours" more easily than others without any dripping or spilling, which the previous glass carafe did have some issues with. I'm also of the belief that it keeps the water warmer longer. I even like the quirky in lid top window-which I can only assume is used to tell how hot the water is since it's always "steamed up" :-).

We drink alot of tea so this pot heats the water quickly and to perfection! I can also heat water to boil pasta faster than a pot on the stove!!

I bought this kettle in 2015, and today it stopped heating. I loved this kettle! I used it several times a day, and not just for tea. Sometimes it was necessary to boil some water for other activities. It performed flawlessly! It was very reliable. I am reordering today!

It's not something to take away from the rating of this kettle, but I need to get the "bad" over with up front. This is a 1500W tea kettle, so you must be careful using this in a room where you really don't want your breakers to get tripped. Without going into too many scientific details, 1500W means this kettle can use up to 12.5 amps of electricity. Most rooms have a 15 or 20 amp breaker on their outlets, meaning when this kettle is running, having a few other things running at the same time can cause your breaker to trip. I bought this for our home office so I wouldn't have to go downstairs to the kitchen every time I wanted to make tea, and should have had the foresight to consider the wattage on this thing. Our office (our bonus room) apparently has a 15 amp breaker, so this thing is perfect when we're just on our computers. However, if our plasma TV and stereo receiver are running, running this kettle will almost without fail cause our breaker to trip. Now that we've figured that out, we haven't had any further trouble as long as we're mindful of that. Usually this isn't an issue in the kitchen, where most people would be using this kettle, because the stove/oven and fridge are on their own circuits, so there's not really anything else that can overload the circuit at the same time. So, if you intend to use this outside of the kitchen, do yourself a favor and ensure that you won't be running this kettle on a 15A circuit with several other electronics. On a 20A circuit you're probably OK even with a high-power entertainment system running. If you have a 15A circuit or have several other appliances that could cause concern, I'd check into a model of electric kettle that doesn't exceed say, 1000 watts as opposed to 1500. Warning aside, this is an amazing tea kettle. It only takes a few minutes, and aside from the middle minute being a bit loud with the bubbling, is fairly quiet. My wife hates the sound of running/pouring water, but considers the sound to be soothing. The build is simple, the capacity is great, and the switch is easy to use and glows while it is running. The fact that the cord doesn't connect directly to the kettle is an EXTREMELY underrated feature as well. I can have a 16oz teapot steeping, and still have more than enough for my wife's big mug of tea, in no time. The build is sturdy and the kettle is attractive. Also do yourself a favor and clean the kettle initially with vinegar as they recommend, and then with vinegar again every so often or when you start noticing residue building up. Cleaning is a cinch as metal is much easier than plastic to keep clean and sanitary. I would also recommend buying a simple silicone trivet to keep under the base if you will be keeping this on a wood surface, to prevent heat/moisture damage over time.

Needed a new kettle. Works great. Fast and not too loud. Recommend, especially because of the value for money.

Sep. 18th 2018 update: I still use this product regularly, and it still works. I've started seeing a bit of rusting inside, however using a product like Barkeep's Friend clears that right up. The mesh filter that goes near the spout has torn completely and is now useless, it would be nice if they either upgraded that to something a bit sturdier or offered a separate filter for an additional charge that is of higher quality. I use filtered water in my kettle, so this is of little concern to me. Nearly 4 years later this thing is still going strong. Jan. 13 2016 update: I still love this kettle, and I would still buy it again without a second thought. I've used it nearly every day (3-5 times per day) since I posted my original review on November 20th, 2014 and I've got it boiling water for a cup of tea for me as I type. I love this kettle and I would buy it again without a second thought. Pros: - Cordless kettle (wired base) - Quick boil time (3-5 minutes depending on amount) - Sturdy stainless-steel construction - Simple operation Cons: - Price Initially when I was considering purchasing a new kettle I was skeptical of spending $50. I thought, "If I'm going to shell out the big bucks it better have a bunch of different modes for brewing different kinds of tea, boil water extremely fast, have an LCD display.." and so forth. I decided to go with this non-lcd, non-mode-having model and I'm glad I did because this sucker just plain WORKS. The other units I saw either had rust problems, had wear-and-tear problems, or routinely kicked the bucket after a few months. There were a few key things I kept an eye out for when considering my purchase: reports of rust (saw these on many kettles), longevity (how long will this keep kicking?), ease of use, and boil time. I can happily report that after a month or so of 5+ cups per day I've got no rust, it still works flawlessly, it's literally 1 big button, and the boil time is about 3-5 minutes (depending on the amount of water you want to boil). Construction of the kettle feels sturdy, but not heavy. It feels like it's built well even though it's plastic and some stainless-steel. It's got a convenient wrap-around cord on the bottom (wraps into the base of the unit) which is probably about 1.5-2ft long. There's a mesh strainer on the mouth of the kettle that is removable. One button on top of the handle flips the lid so you can pour water, and another button near the base turns it on. It's cordless (it detaches from the wired base).

Well designed.

Nicely balanced. Works very well. Large capacity. The only problem is viewing the water level line which is situated right under the handle and very hard to read. Even with the silly water line problem I would definitely purchase this kettle again.

Middle-sized Water Kettle

This is a well-designed kettle with a nicely-lit on/off switch. The only drawback is that the transparent water level window is behind the handle. This is only a problem when you are filling it up -- and don't want to overfill. We had a larger kettle size, but this is ideal, since we are not weight lifters.

Highly recommend this kettle

Highly recommend this kettle. It is exactly what I was looking for: an excellent quality kettle that boils water in a reasonable length of time, has an automatic shut off when boiled, cuts off before boiling dry, displays the water level, easy to fill and doesn't expose your hand to burns from the steam when refillng a hot kettle, and doesn't have multiple functions I don't need. The only thing I would change and it is minor, is moving the water level indicator out from under the handle and more to the side for easier visibility. Love the substantial snap of the on/off switch which lights up when on.

... same kettle I had four years ago which was better than satisfactory

A flawed item but it is the same kettle I had four years ago which was better than satisfactory, quiet, reliable, and easy to deal with with arthritic affected hands and fingers. It was top rated then and I do not understand why it is not now produced…the price has nearly doubled which is not appropriate. This kettle does no release the top as the first one did so it is I assume a flawed or returned item remaining from past supplies. Satisfied but also disappointed I have been tricked to something less than what was promised.

Stopped working after a year

Good kettle while it worked. Base is no longer functional after 1 year and a bit of usage. For the money I paid I expected better quality. Will not buy again from this brand.
