B-2As Drop LRASM During Exercises
Yesterday, the large-scale US-led exercise Valiant Shield 26 concluded in the Pacific Ocean. In addition to the US forces, it involved Japanese, Canadian, Australian, and New Zealand units.
It took place from June 22 to July 1 and involved over 15,000 personnel, 300 aircraft, including F-35s, and approximately 30 warships. B-2A strategic stealth bombers were also used for training missions.
▪️They flew to the coast of Guam on June 26-27, and until today, it was unclear what exactly they were practicing. As it turned out, the B-2As took part in a strike using the latest Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) against the decommissioned USS Juneau.
It served as a target. This was the first time LRASM had been used from a B-2A. Also during this exercise, the Australian Ghost Bat strategic unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was used for the first time, performing reconnaissance missions and providing reconnaissance support.
The Japanese, in addition to deploying their tactical aircraft, practiced deploying and firing HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, which were deployed relatively recently on the Japanese home islands to deter China.
