Patriotism as a sociocultural phenomenon has become an issue of current importance in present-day society and current research. In this study, the concept of patriotism is defined as a quality engendered by a socio-cultural environment, by a university environment in particular. The role and objectives of patriotic upbringing are defined. The authors present the results of a survey conducted among the students of Tyumen State University majoring in Sociology. The survey was aimed at determining the level of patriotism, civic consciousness, migration intentions, and the knowledge of history of their country, region, and birthplace among the students. The results of the study suggest the importance of a complex approach to the formation of a patriotic upbringing system. The relevance of shaping patriotic consciousness, as well as of extra attention to ecological education of youth, is outlined. The article reveals the focus areas, modern forms, and methods of student patriotic education as in the case of the positive experience of Tyumen State University. Patriotic education of students is considered an important focus area in the University. The issue of pre-school children patriotic education in its relation with family up-bringing and up-bringing at pre-school education establishment is considered in the article given.
