Just got 3080, but dont know exactly how to set up power wires…

cue files not working with the GDI files?

have this messed up problem where whenever I run the game, load my character, I run around for a little bit, then about 30sec - a minute, game freezes up, and crashes. Completely unable to play the game. I was running a rtx 3080, reinstalled all the drivers, made sure i had no other processes running, etc etc.
The only fix I have seem to have found is swapping out my 3080 for my old 1080, now it works totally fine... it's really frustrating but im wondering if other people have been experiencing this similar problem, and if they may have some solutions. I read that turning off the steam overlay and adding /nolightfx to launch options . Would love to hear other solutions people may have though.
UPDATE: I can't get this to work, and I dont know what the issue is. Funnily enough, I had a very similar problem back when Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition came out, where I had to do a reinstall of windows :/. This might be the solution as well, but this fix of using my gtx 1080 seems to work fine for now.
I'm gonna give it some time like a month and see if any major updates come out and try again then, until then though, i'll start backing up my data for possible reformat...
I have, still seems to crash here and there, a lot less often but still
I know this is a "turn-off/turn-on" type of advice, but to someone it actually worked:
Have you tried unistall and reinstall the game?
Just got in my 3080 FTW3 ultra today and trying to set it up with my PC, but im having some issues.
As I see it, it needs 3x8pin to power, and although I do have the necessary wires to work with, im a little confused about something.
In the instructions, it specifically refers to the cables used as “PCIe” cables.
With my EVGA Supernova 850 g2, There are ports on it labeled “VGA1…VGA2…VGA3…VGA4”. BUT, the actual cables I have, (the majority being labeled “VGA”) there is ONE, that is labeled “PCIe”, which is a 8-pin solid and a 6+2pin end.
Doing some reading to clarify some misunderstandings, I read that VGA and PCIE as a term are basically interchangeable, so I figured “ok, i’ll just put this PCIe into one of the slots on my PSU labeled ‘VGA’.
That’s where the problem came, it doesn’t fit in there. To further add to confusion, out of curiosity, I plugged the PCIe cable into the “CPU2” slot on the PSU.
Did some further digging and couldn’t find anything regarding this, basically all I found is people saying you shouldn’t put anything put cpu power in there. Even more confusing, it looks like this cable has a hole that is empty (as in, there is no wire going through it, it has a 8 pin head but technically there are only 7 wires). I thought because of this maybe its fine to still put it into the cpu slot?
Just to be safe though, im just gonna use the 6+2 wires that are labeled “VGA”, but if I can get an answer to this it’d be helpful. Thanks again!
here’s a link showing you what this wire looks like too https://imgur.com/a/qc5t4X0
Do not use the CPU cable. It's for the motherboard, not the GPU, and it could fry your GPU.
Just use VGA cables/PCIE cables 1-3 and you should be fine. The split 6+2 end of the PCIE cable is what goes to the GPU. The other end is to the power supply.
Yeah, this is what I did, just to be on the safe side cause this is what I read from the majority of things. Just wanna know what this wire does? If I can only plug it into the "cpu" labeled slot. Figure just forget about it and not worry about it. (FYI, there is another cable labeled "CPU" with a 4+4 pin at the end, which I figured is what is meant to go into that slot (??))
Tried to do some workout after a while of not using the ring con (level 212 or so). Tried to boot it up, but it was telling me that it couldn't read the ring con data! Tried updating controllers, unplugging/replugging right joycon, checking for updates of game and console, restarting my switch, nothing seemed to work.
I did recently change out the shells of my joycons to some eXtremeRate ones but I don't know how that would effect the ringcon (controllers work fine attached to switch I don't know why they wouldn't with the ringcon, tried to use multitasking mode and that didn't work out either.)
Anyone have any advice? My first plan is to try out a friend's joycon and see if it's a problem with that. If that doesn't work then I guess I'll contact Nintendo to repair it or get myself one of those third party ones.
Hi there, I've made this kind of post a few times here before, but think I just need an update on what the hell I should do.
Background: Graduated with a CS degree in 2017, didn't get a internship out of school and stagnated a bit. In 2019 I was able to get a decent internship as a DBA, which ended in 2020.
In March of 2020 I was thinking about getting more into web development (specifically front-end because I like working with designs) and I entered into a certificate program at my university which I finished in January of this year.
Back then I was asking people if I should go do a bootcamp but it seemed like everybody said it wasn't a good idea just from the fact that I already have a degree and that I should just work on projects on my own and "get over my mental roadblocks"
I can say that since then I've made a few programs and even made myself a portfolio website, but as i've been trying to apply to any sort of Junior Web Developer jobs I can find, I usually am met with either no reply, or a rejection. I am kinda hesitant to do open-source stuff as I feel like I just don't know enough to be helpful/contribute anything.
Honestly I dont know what to do, my parents hound me all the time and tell me to go back to school to get a master's degree, as they say nobody wants to hire somebody who has been out of school for 5 years. But all my other family members who have found success with CS all say there wouldn't be much point to it unless you "wanted to move up in your career" (which I have none). I have a ton of ideas for projects and I wouldn't be against just continuing to work on them, I started doing the google Kotlin course and I'm gonna see if I can't get the certificate through that too.
Whenever I get interviews (so far, about 2, from Stripe and Lessen) I start working with leetcode or hackerrank which has been a pretty good tool , I also am going through the "cracking the coding interview" book just so I can be better with a lot of the data structures/algorithm stuff.
At this point though, I just want a job... my dream job is going into something related to front-end, doesn't even have to be a faang I just wanna work with front-end or UI/UX, but I feel like I might have to just go back to school just so I can be considered for anything. I have thought about getting a second degree in Human-Computer Interaction, but I dont know if that will attract job positions for Front-end Dev...
I'm kinda at a loss here, is there anything I can do to help me land a job in the next 6 months? Should I try to connect with more recruiters? Should I go to more hiring events and hack-a-thons? Should I just go back to school and get my master's?
This is just my opinion so don’t forget that :)
I think the fact that you have a CS degree is already really great! The only time I would recommend a bootcamp is if you wanted to transition careers into software engineering or wanted to learn about web development specifically, which it sounds like you already have a pretty good handle on: You have some projects as well as a portfolio website.
If you’re having trouble getting interviews or phone screens, you may have to adjust your resume (feel free to post it!), although getting your first dev job is quite a numbers game as well and involves a lot of luck. You still gotta present yourself and leetcode well hehe. Connecting with recruiters on LinkedIn is also a good idea.
I think one of the biggest things for you to focus is how to answer any gaps in your employment on your resumé. Worst case scenario, blame covid or something family related (it’s probably true anyway).
Other than that, the best way to get a dev job is to throw your resumé out there after it’s polished. You can’t get hired unless they have it (or you have some really good connections)
That's what I've heard too! Thanks for all this advice.
Here I'll just throw up my portfolio website with my resume on it, why not. Always good to get some feedback on this stuff so I can change it for the better.
Some tips. One of your problems is a very common one for new grads and juniors: presentation. You need to put a lot of work into how you present yourself online.
Either put the calculator app at the very bottom or exclude it altogether. You want to have your most impressive work first/at the top. As you add more projects to your portfolio, always prune something. Having 5-6 great pieces is better than having a ton of them.
Don't write about yourself in third person.
Change the logotype (it's difficult to read)
Change your graphical theme: add a color - it will do a lot.
I also took the opportunity to check your LinkedIn:
5) Write a bit more about your DevOps internship. Projects, tech, responsibilities. Write something about what you learned and how you grew there, and what problems you tackled.
6) You need to expand your network. 50 connections is not a lot. Look into doubling this. Connect with any colleague from your internship, connect with students from your school, connect with recruiters. The goal should be to have more LinkedIn connections than Facebook friends (yea, really).
7) Follow a ton of people and companies. You not only want to have a big network but you also wanna keep track of what's going on. Who is joining/leaving what company and why.
Networking is a very crucial part of your career. Good networks WILL land you jobs.
If you need to build more experience I recommend freelancing. It doesn't pay a lot but you get more content for your CV, which is critical to have right now.
Definitely sounds like a good start, I'll try to work on this a little more, thank you!
its def an upgrade to how a lot of the episodes look from prior uploads but I feel that you still get that weird kinda glare/blurriness, so it isn't as crisp and nice looking as the second season is.
here are some screenshots of the blu-ray rips i made https://imgur.com/a/v6fm9jk
I've recently started having problems with my gdemu, suddenly the game I would be playing shuts off and I'm met with a black screen. The first time this happened it sent me back to the gdemu menu but it only showed 5 items and about 4 of the items were the same game. Right now I constantly keep getting the "please wait while disc is being checked" message on the console bios.
I've tried resetting, reseating the gdemu. Sometimes it starts working fine again and then after a while the same issue will come up.
Is my gdemu dead? It's one of those common clones so I'd understand if it's a little under quality compared to the legit ones. I've been reading it could be either a power or even an SD card problem so I'm not too sure at this point and not sure how I can troubleshoot. Any help would be appreciated.
UPDATE: gdemu working again! Ordered a dreampsu and tested it out and it was working fine again! So guess we rooted out it was probably the problem people said it was: the PSU not working correctly with the gdemu due to the 12v regulator. I REALLY WISH I had known about this before hand, all those "just plug n play no soldering required!" Videos really had me fooled.
Not even, you can use a pair of wire cutters and just cut the 3 legs off.
Worst case scenario, you can solder those 3 legs back together later, or it’s just a plain old 12v linear regulator than can just be replaced.
think what i might do is just look into buying the dreamPSU as a nice replacement, i bought soldering equipment for some future modding i might attempt though as theres a lot of really nice resources on doing it out there. Gonna look into doing a fan and replacement battery mod down the line. I dont know about an HDMI mod though I am pretty content with the converter I bought a while back
You have to remove the 12v voltage regulator on the psu, most dcs have to have this removed in order to not overheat.
Wow this is the first time I'm hearing about this, so am I going to have to purchase some desoldering equipment? Have I already blown out my gdemu?
I was wondering, what happened to mega64tv?
I've wanted to introduce people to mega64, and I felt like the best way of doing that was getting a handful of videos from mega64tv, but it seems like it's not running any longer, but I still see the website, as well as the twitch page, says it should be running between podcasts, any idea on whats going on? Is mega64tv just not running anymore and they never updated the stream description? If that;'s the case I hope it comes back in some way or form.
Hello! I'm a little new to using the GDEMU, I got one recently and successfully installed it into my dreamcast, and had a bunch of roms already on my PC and proceeded to upload them onto a SD card using the GDmenu software, although I have a lot of games that are both CDI and GDI extension, there are a few that come with a CUE file. I checked the website on how to format this in it's respective folder but wasn't sure what to do with those file extensions with CUE.
Unfortunately, those games are unable to be read when I boot up GDMenu.
Would anybody know exactly what can be done about these files? they're pretty small so I would assume I could just delete them, but I am not too certain.
Sorry again about the questions, I am pretty noob at a lot of this. I did do some lurking to try to find answers to this but to no avail, I came across a lot of words such as TOSEC and Redump but i'm a little confused as to what these terms mean.
CUE files are basically just text files, you can open them up with a text editor and see exactly what's in them. If you use PS1 or Saturn disc images you'll see them a lot, as they'll often come in CUE+BIN format, but they can also come paired with ISO or WAV files. Either way, unless you convert the CUE and its accompanying data files it probably won't work with the GDEMU as it doesn't support CUE files.
TOSEC (The Old School Emulation Center) and Redump are both projects dedicated to cataloguing and archiving ROMs and disc images. In the context of looking for image sets for the Dreamcast, TOSEC provides GDI files that will work with the GDEMU and Redump provides CUE+BIN files, which I believe is recommended for use with the MODE.
This answers a lot of questions, so I guess I should try looking for TOSEC GDIs and try not to use those that need CUE files. Thanks again, it's really appreciated!!
